Calendar

We are already compiling reports for the next journal, if you have any Regional events or herd competitions this year please provide Claire with any results, reports and photos after the event. Please remember that if you are a show Judge then a Judges report would be greatly appreciated to help support the results and photos. Please post or email them to claire@shorhorn.co.uk There is now a printable form that can be found on the Dairy Website under Docs/ Forms to help collate your results of the herd from your Herd Competition or call the office for a printed version.

Our Dairy Calendar has now been updated with all the shows and events for 2017. This can be viewed on your mobile via the Shorthorn Website. If you have any events which you would like to promote please call Claire and we can add them to the calendar. An event soon to be added to the Calendar is an Open Day at the Drisgol Herd, look out on the calendar and website for more details shortly.

Please can we ask that you pay your 2017 Membership subscription if you haven't already done so. Payment of this will ensure that your registrations are actioned and all necessary literature will be issued to you accordingly. You can pay this by card via the office or by sending in a cheque. You could also obtain a standing order from the office to complete for your future annual payments.

Update Please find enclosed a letter regarding the current situation facing the Dairy Shorthorn society staffing and day to day service provisions. Please bear with us whilst we endeavour to resolve matters over the coming months.

Registrations

Please continue to send in your registrations regularly to the office to avoid late fees. Any registrations actioned over the age of 3 months will incur a late fee ÂŁ6 (inc vat) or if over 12 months the original registration fee is doubled. These registrations are a very valuable source of revenue to the society. If you require paper registrations slips please call the office. Junior Champion - Shaunlea Geri 10

AGM & Judging Day

This years AGM and Judging day is taking place on Saturday 3rd June 2017 at I.R.G. Collins & Partners Church Farm, Howroyd Lane, Whitley Lower, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire WF12 0NB The timetable for the day is as follows: 12.00 AGM followed by lunch at 12.30 1.15 Judging Competiton with Master Judge Mick Gould followed by Herd Visit. Finally there will be a BBQ at night for anyone who wishes to stay. Here is a list of the local accomodation: Woolpack Inn, Whitley Lower Midgley Lodge Motel, Bretton, Wakefield Premier Inn, Brighouse Heath Cottage Hotel, Dewsbury Travel lodge, Wholley Edge Services M1 Holiday Inn Express, Wakefield Days Inn, Brighouse We encourage all Judges to attend the day and advise that anyone wishing to be added to the Judges list should also attended.

Online Registrations Moving forward you can now have your membership details set up to be able to do your registrations Online. Please call or email Claire if you wish to be able to have this access. The procedure is simple to learn but assistance is always here should you require it. Invoices will be issued in the usual way and can now be paid by card over the phone.

Transfers Currently transfers are still free of charge so keep your animals details up to date by emailing Claire with any animals you have purchased or sold.

Gold Cup Please remember that the Gold Cup Entries close at the end of May, so submit your entry form soon.

Deceased animals In order to keep our database as accurate as possible please inform us of any animals which have died.

Shorthorn Sires UK At present we have 4 super bulls at the great price of ÂŁ5 per straw. The bulls are: Kilsally Redford, Castledale Snowman, Nejay Earl and Strickly Wiggo. We have seen some great heifers now milking off Strickley Wiggo & Kilsally Redford. We also have Beef Shorthorn semen available too at low prices. More details on these bulls can be found on the new Shorthorn Sires UK website or call the office for our recent SSUK flyer.

Young Members Weekend This event will take place on 19th to 21st May, at Brinsbury College, incorporating the Brinsbury Show. Brinsbury College will provide all the animals and camping facilities. Timetable for the weekend as follows: Arrival from 5pm on Friday. 9.30 am Saturday Clipping and Showing workshops and demonstrations. Preparing Calves. 4.30 Saturday PM into evening. (team building and then social). 9.30 am Sunday Handling and Calf show at the Brinsbury Show. Open to the Public. Lunch and depart. Please contact Wendy Young to express your interest 07785 971614
