Spring is finally here. Some of you will be studying for exams and essays due at the end of this term. To those who are working hard now, and others who will be doing so over Easter, I wish you all the best. Been there, done that and survived… just. Make sure you eat healthily, take breaks and get some fresh air. Don’t burn out! In Week 9 we are going to have Referenda with some big issues up for you to decide upon. None is bigger than the policy to ‘secure our Union’s independence’. Others include removing the sponsorship ban, so any club and society can choose for themselves which companies they get money from. In Week 10 we have the final of Battle of the Bands, which is not to be missed. To top it off, we then have the epic battle which is the Warwick vs. Coventry Varsity. They may be our neighbours, but during Week 10 they are certainly not our friends. And no victory sounds sweeter than one with hundreds of fans cheering you on, so make sure you get your tickets to the games and check out the info and schedule on the website at www.warwicksu.com/varsity. international women’s week 8th -13th march: not just for girls International anti-sexism speaker Jackson Katz will be talking about what makes a real man, what men can do about sexism towards women and more on Friday from 12-2pm in the Atrium. He’s come all the way from America, so drop by for what promises to be a great discussion of modern masculinity and how the media portrays both men and women. We’ve got performances of The Vagina Monologues on Monday and Thursday in the Chaplaincy and CAPITAL Centre. There’ll also be a mock domestic violence trial, talks on women’s roles in social entrepreneurship and debates on the nature of modern feminism, alongside much more in the way of fun events relating to women in our society. Schedules have been on campus since Week 8, or visit the website: www.week9.tk. Don’t forget to buy a ticket for the raffle at the stall on the Piazza, and come along to the bake sale for Coventry Rape Crisis Centre on Friday afternoon or the charity gig by folk band Green Diesel in Leamington on Saturday.

advantage awards Thinking about applying for the Warwick Advantage or Global Advantage Awards? The deadline is Friday March 19th for the Advantage Award, and March 26th for the Global Award. The Advantage Awards are University-accredited and recognise student activity beyond the scope of your degree. The Global Award specifically focuses on your achievements with an international aspect. The time is upon us when YOU get to decide on your Union’s policy. Referenda usually take place twice a year, and this week we will see some of the most controversial motions in years being discussed.

○○ Ethical Banking As you can see, Referenda really do make a huge impact on how the Union is run. Do you think we should remove barriers to sponsorship, or instead maintain the Union’s ethical stance? Should we go one further and bank ethically? What about twinning with students in Gaza? Should we disaffiliate from WMANUS? What about significantly changing the Union’s constitution? All of these debates will vastly transform what your Union does and how it is run, so VOTE!
