From WCC to NASA WCC ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Aisha Bowe has two aerospace engineering degrees from the University of Michigan, spent nearly seven years working for NASA in northern California and today is a successful tech entrepreneur based in the Washington D.C. area.

That impressive career progression started with a single A in an algebra class at Washtenaw Community College. That set off what Bowe calls the key to any large-scale success — a series of small wins. “If I take the time to think about how many opportunities there were for me to get stuck, it’s staggering, said Bowe. “But then you find that next small win and you keep going.” From there, the small wins continued to pile up. They led to a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree and an internship at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, and eventually to an award-winning career developing algorithms in support of air traffic management.

Natalia Alexandrova

DANCE AND LANGUAGE TRAINER

Natalia Alexandrova has a lifelong passion for teaching and dancing. After studying ballet, choreography and history of dance in Russia as a child, Alexandrova studied economics and management in college. Her first experience in teaching was at an English language school in Moscow. After immigrating to Canada, she rediscovered dancing while working at a ballroom studio in Toronto. The owners quickly recognized her abilities and began to train her as an instructor and international competitor. “Coming back to dancing, teaching and competing woke up a part of my heart which was frozen for so many years,” says Alexandrova. “Dancing allows people to express themselves in ways normal life does not. Dancing teaches you discipline and confidence, but in a fun environment. The smiles I see on the faces of my students tell me that dancing is changing their lives for the better.” Alexandrova brings passion to her training, whether it’s dancing or Russian language. Her purpose is to open new paths of discovery for each participant in her classes.

Imagine the delight of your friends and family when you serve culinary treasures from the region of Abruzzi. We will first prepare Abruzzi-style braciola, a dish of thin veal slices around a breadcrumb, cheese and herb filling, simmered in white wine and tomato sauce. Emeritus Scholarship:

Note: Once your scholarship qualification has been confirmed, you may enroll in any noncredit class during regular registration times. Nonprofit Agency Scholarship:

This scholarship provides payment for tuition (only) of agency-approved Economic and Community Development noncredit classes. Submit an application each semester for each class you plan to attend. You must complete all items on this checklist to qualify: 1) You must be a permanent employee of a nonprofit agency (permanent position) in Washtenaw County; 2) Submit the nonprofit agency scholarship application, complete with supervisor approved class(es) and signature, ten business days before start of class; 3) You must attend all class sessions and complete all class requirements.
