Michael Mogan HEALTH CARE, HUMAN AND SOCIAL SERVICES Michael Mogan is an experienced social worker with a demonstrated history in the mental health care industry. Mogan has taught for over 35 years at various institutions including Davenport and Eastern Michigan University, before joining the professional development training staff at WCC. “I love the face-to-face interaction with students and the sense of accomplishment from bringing new ideas and understanding to my fellow social workers,” says Mogan. “I can’t emphasize enough the importance of sharing information and experiences and the need for clinical professionals to offer the most effective understanding and treatment for their clients.” Mogan’s classes are highly interactive and emphasize participant interaction and the sharing of experience and skills with others. All who attend will gain new and useful information and will benefit from networking with peers. Mark Fecker Marc Fecker is the CEO and cofounder of Robo Retail, a fullservice digital agency that supports small- to medium-size retailers and provides strategic consulting for large companies like Hertz, Chase Bank, and recreational vehicle maker BRP, which manufactures Ski-Doo, Evinrude and Cam-Am among other brands. He credits a lifelong passion for learning, a hunger for technology and innovation, and classes he took at Washtenaw Community College as keys to his success. “Among the classes I took at WCC were HTML programming and speech classes,” he said. “I really didn’t like public speaking at all. I was shy and nervous in front of an audience, and I still get nervous before speaking today. But the foundational tools that WCC gave me, really made a big difference. “When I think back to my WCC experiences, those were the most important classes I took,” he continued. “They really changed my perspective and approach to public speaking.” Today, he is a paid speaker and has done more than 40 public speaking engagements including one at the IBM Watson Conference that he describes as, ”a TED Talk on steroids.” Confidence in public speaking was not the only thing that he got from his speech courses at WCC. He also received the confidence to go out and pursue his dreams. “The instructor in my first speech class was a mentor to me,” he said. “She helped me figure out what was important and helped me make some early life decisions.” One of those choices was joining CorTech Computers, a startup computer company in New Jersey. “It was something that I was really interested in doing and very passionate about, but I was scared to take the plunge,” he said. After leaving CorTech, Fecker joined Ciber, Inc. as an IT Business Consultant and later joined Ford Motor Company. At Ford, Fecker served as the Vice President of Innovation and created the company’s FordDirect Innovation Lab.

Stuck in a dead-end job and looking for a way to reinvent himself, Randal Stegmeyer discovered photography can be a profession. After obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Applied Photography from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, he worked in several photographic positions, amassing a great deal of information and experience which led to his current role as Cultural Heritage Photographer for the University of Michigan Library. “Practicing the craft of photography has changed the way I see the world in very profound ways,” says Stegmeyer. “Having the ability to take a slice out of life, to preserve a fleeting moment and give it a life of its own is truly remarkable.” Teaching at WCC allows Stegmeyer to share his passion for photography with others. “My goal is to make sure that everybody leaves class with a good working knowledge of their camera and image editing software,” says Stegmeyer. “When we have a firm understanding of our tools, we can be free to pursue our creative impulses.”

What is a CEU? A CEU (continuing education unit) is a

national measurement unit. One CEU equals ten classroom or equivalent hours, and is used to record, transfer and recognize participation in noncredit learning experiences.

Emeritus Scholarship:

In order to be granted emeritus status, you must follow these steps prior to registering for your first class: Confirm that you are an in-district resident and that you are 65 years of age by January 1, 2020, by bringing your driver’s license or state-issued photo ID to Student Connection on WCC campus. To register online with the scholarship, please contact our offices at 734-677-5060 and we will apply the scholarship to your tuition for noncredit classes. Please note that the emeritus scholarship does not apply to mandatory class fees.

Nonprofit Agency Scholarship:

This scholarship provides payment for tuition (only) of agency-approved Economic and Community Development noncredit classes. Submit an application each semester for each class you plan to attend. You must complete all items on this checklist to qualify: 1) You must be a permanent employee of a nonprofit agency (permanent position) in Washtenaw County; 2) Submit the nonprofit agency scholarship application, complete with supervisor approved class(es) and signature, ten business days before start of class; 3) You must attend all class sessions and complete all class requirements. If the class is not successfully completed, you (or your agency) may be billed for the full tuition amount of the class and/or have your scholarship discontinued; 4) You must submit your completed application form with a copy of your agency’s 501(c)3 documentation no later than ten business days before the start of class.
