Burglarized!

Let this be a lesson to everyone here.‌ I got home tonight to find my apartment burglarized. *TVs, laptops, and every watch I owned... *gone‌. Excursions, SANIII's, Venoms, brand new Energia2, Androids, Ocean7 American 66/100, Citizen Skyhawk & Ecozilla, NFW Autopilots, everything. My insurance company will cover the TVs & laptops for replacement cost but they say I am only covered up to $1000 for jewelry because I didn't declare each and every watch. So much for $30K coverage on "personal property".* So for those of you with bigger collections than mine, about $8000 worth, be sure to speak to your insurance agent. I really doubt I'll get back into it like I was. Six years of collecting gone instantly.

You should post a list and we can start checking Craigs list and ebay, etc. What state are you from? Keep an eye on Craigs list. So sorry for your loss, its like a death in the family. Post the list and I try to help you find them. Something to do when in the NBZ too. That is so horrible and I'm truly sorry. The only way I can relate is coming home to your whole apartment being gone ... burned up in a fire. Good luck with the insurance company; may they be quick in paying out what they owe you. __________________

I know the feeling, there is nothing worst then knowing that someone got into your house & just took everything they want. Total disregard, it burns me sooooooo much. For me it was minimal, they must of been spoked & left w/o getting a lot. I can imagine some of the hate, etc. that you feel, but to loose everything like that, it's worse than what I felt. I hope the police have something to go on & that some good will eventually come out of this. Very sorry. That is terrible news, and the worse part, as stated above, it is most likely somebody you

know, or a friend of theirs. If not a local doper, it is an acquaintance of his, who he ran his mouth off in front of (oh dude, my neighbor has a zillion watches). Happened to me just that way too, mine were antique items that can't be replaced; start looking and see if any neighbors starts dodging you. I wish you the best of luck trying to get your stuff back. __________________ It's better to have loved and lost, then to never have had that special watch... Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement… I think I am most upset with the insurance company. How could I possibly call them every time I make a purchase? That's ridiculous in my opinion. I am on my iPhone right now so I apologize if things are typing funny. I guess at least I should get two new TVs in two new laptops out of the deal… I don't really feel violated because it's just an apartment that I've rented for a year. I am mostly saddened about my watch collection… I will put together a list tomorrow when I can type more easily at the office. Thank you again for all of the support and well wishes. Apparently this is a spree in our area… 20 to 30 in the last two months. They have not been pawning the stuff so I am guessing craigslist or local flea markets…. So sorry to hear about what happened. It is unfortunate that to insure your watches you have to have a separate rider included in your insurance and have each watch listed separately with receipts or appraisals. My guess is that most people don't do that. It is VERY EXPENSIVE.

Be sure to check all the local pawn shops. You never know some may turn up there. Good luck and I hope some of them if not all come back to you. __________________

Timely thread and I feel your pain, bro. Just this early morning, there was a blaze down my street and 2 houses were burnt to ground. The families got out okay but apart from their clothes and some paperwork, they lost everything. I've been thinking about that all day today and my wife is calling our insurance agent tomorrow morning first thing to get more coverage added in...especially for my watch collection. Hopefully, things turn out better for you in future. MrAutoGuy View Public Profile Find all posts by MrAutoGuy Add MrAutoGuy to Your Contacts #31 Today, 05:00 AM

Oh man am I sorry to hear about this terrible news. It just gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I do worry all the time when I leave my home, and I hate it. It really sucks, cause you either have to have everything hidden, or locked up out of site where you can't even enjoy your collection. Or you chance losing everything by leaving it out where you can enjoy it. I would notify all the local pawn shops, and jewelry stores that buy previously owned items. Supply them with a list, and if possible pictures, so they can identify your items if they're brought in. I know it's a total long shot, but it does happen a lot where the stuff ends up in a pawn shop, or jewelry shop. I do hope that these guys are caught, and your property is returned. This kind of thing just makes me sick. The best of luck to you, Ken.. Very sorry to hear about the theft. That is terrible. Definitely agree with those that suggested the local pawn shops. They will try to dump the items there first. So sorry to hear this! We were robbed in an apartment about 15 years ago.. We had new neighbors moving in who talked to the guys moving my stuff out. Even with descriptions they were never caught. The strange thing is that of all the electronics and jewelry that they took, I was most upset that they went through my pantry to find garbage bags that they used to carry off all of my CD's. I feel your pain and hope you can start collecting again soon. Good luck with your insurance company. __________________ Patience is a virtue few WatchGeeks have...

I'm very sorry to hear of your lost, I hope the police are able to recover all your property. It was mentioned earlier that the burglars could be someone you know, that might be a possibility. I'm sure many geeks, including myself, are called the watch guy at work, because of the number of different watches you wear to work each day. It has crossed my mind, that however unlikely, one of these people might get involved with a crime like this. When people ask me about my watches I always down play them, saying they weren't expensive. Again I'm truly sorry to hear about this terrible situation. __________________

I agree with the suggestions so far, but also look for some teenage punk wearing what may be one of your watches. A body slam might be in order! I've been robbed twice prior to my watch hobby for thousands of bucks worth of power tools and jewelry. Each time it happpened I knew who did it by tracing back who had been in my house recently and coupling that with the fact that that individual immediately vanished from the neighborhood. I just bought a house in a much better neighborhood but it hasn't deterred me from adding an alarm system and installing a safe. Good luck and think positive. If these guys are robbing houses and hoarding, an arrest may soon come and lead investigators to their stash and you may be able to recover something. Find any records you have and keep a good raport with an investigator. __________________

Most times it wasn't a random hit, they knew what you had ahead of time! I noticed alot of home invasions with all sorts of other acts commited really picking up around here too! Their hitting the more upscale areas now too! Did someone do repairs or anything that allowed access to your place? Best to have a gun safe that they can't carry as it takes too much time for these dirt bags to mess with. If your computers had Lojack they can trace it too..only 20 bucks a year. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. About 15 years ago, I experienced a similar break-in and lost all of my collectables. They eventually caught the thief when he tried to sell a collectable CD to a used record store owner who was suspicious. However, I never recovered my stuff. Even if the insurance company could give you the money, it really never replaces the memories and excitement you had when you first got those items. Part of collecting is the chase and the excitment of the find. I lost my record collection, coin collection and my baseball card collection that accumulated from childhood, along with jewelry. While I will miss those items, the thief never could take away the memories I had from childhood when I worked for the money to go buy those things; when I got on the bus to go purchase them; when I showed them off proudly to my family and friends (many who are now gone, too.). I even thought that if I had gotten the money to replace all of those coins and cards, I would not have done so, since any replacement would not quite be the same as the original I worked so hard to get. Hopefully your memories associated with your collecting can be of some consolation to you during this tough time. Dude, That sucks, i know. Three weeks ago I lost everything in a burglary, also. I was way underinsured which is a good lesson for all watch geeks. I had four 36 watch boxes, and winders. I also lost four flatscreens, computers, art, etc. Word to everyone....review your stuff with your agent. I hope you get stuff back. I really feel for you. had a storage unit broken into and had twenty-five years of our lives taken. the insurance companys want to settle fast and cheap on ALL claims. if you kept reciepts show the agent, if he says he cant help go to his boss ,and his ,and so on until they get tired of you and pay what they owe. __________________

sorry to hear about you becoming a victim of burglary with associated loss. my slant on this is that property loss is inconsequential given the violent nature of many criminals. kind of a dark cloud with a silver lining. a valuable lessen learned is that items that you consider valuable that are small enough to be put in a safe should be stored there when you leave home. mbgalg View Public Profile Find all posts by mbgalg Add mbgalg to Your Contacts #74 Today, 03:39 PM

This is a very bad break, Nasty. So sorry you had to go through this. Jeweler's Mutual is an insurance company that only insures jewelry and watches. I would highly recommend them. My watchmaker/jeweler referred me to them. He had dealt with them for many years and said they are legit. It is much cheaper than adding to your homeowner's policy. Saved me close to a grand a year. It is great because it covers when you travel too. Taxg8r00 View Public Profile Find all posts by Taxg8r00 Add Taxg8r00 to Your Contacts #78 Today, 04:28 PM

Sorry to hear about this. Have the cops check local pawn shops. Criminals usually want to sell them for some fast cash and to get rid of the evidence, they don't want to get caught with the items on them. You can even go look in some pawn shops yourself and if you see something of yours, call the cops asap. Good luck! the watcher View Public Profile Find all posts by the watcher Add the watcher to Your Contacts #80 Today, 04:53 PM

Thanks again folks... The insurance company just told me, "sorry. you are only covered up to $1000 on jewlery". I explained I had pictures and receipts and that some were numbered and ltd editions. Didn't matter to them, she she couldn't care less. Call your agents folks and do NOT deal with ANPAC! I feel bad for you my Brother Geek, and I know what and how it feels to be robbed. 30 years ago, my wife and I were robbed not once, but twice in our home within 6 months!. 1st by ameatures, but the 2nd time by pros, and I mean pros, they nearly cleaned us out. I hope you will be able to pick up the pieces, and if they ever catch who did this to you, tell them to tell the thieves, since they stole all of your watches, when they get sentenced to jail, now all they will have to do is think about their TIME in jail, ....... and nothing else! Good luck to you. __________________

For this very reason, I bought a fireproof gun vault safe and lag bolted 6" lags into the wall studs of my closet. All guns, ammo, watches, cameras, car & motorcycle titles, and other valueables are secured in this 600# vault. Kinda pricey at $550, but it will definitely survive nearly any attempt to defeat it. bigpat View Public Profile Find all posts by bigpat Add bigpat to Your Contacts #87 Today, 06:36 PM

That really bites big time. Pawn shops are a little hard to deal with...they now have to have some type of proof to take jewelry and watches....at least the reputable ones do. I would continue to check Craigs list...and other local small news papers...and the bi-weekly free papers...we have one here in Houston called Greensheets. __________________
