Croton "Roll Bar"-"Hockey Mask"-"Football Facemask" Watch

Although I'm still not quite up to speed with being able to hang out here, I felt it was important for me to "follow-up" with this watch... I named it the "Roll Bar" watch because it reminds me of a roll bar on a Jeep or desert buggie. Others said it was a "football facemask" or "hockey helmet goalie mask". During the live presentation, they called it a cross. So, take your pick, but to me, it is a Roll Bar Watch...

Croton Men's Sport Black Ionic Plated Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch - J177467 ShopNBC Price: $207.00 Bracelet: Stainless steel Movement: Japanese 8217 automatic Crystal: Mineral Crown: Screw down Clasp: Push button dual deployant Bracelet Measurements: 8" L x 22mm W Case Measurements: 44mm Water Resistance: 3 ATM - 30 meters - 100 feet

One of the first things I noticed, is the length of the bracelet. ****The bracelet is NOT a full 8 inches. I removed 1 link and the links are so small that they could be half links themselves. My wrist is just under 7 inches. I'd say that anyone with an 8 inch wrist would be taking a chance on this one. Anyone over an 8 inch wrist, there's no way you could wear this out of the box. Order extra links as soon as you order the watch!! Also, sizing this one was not easy on my punch pins. I had to use the thinner of the two sizes of pins, and it bent the pin, when I hammered it to try to release the bracelet pin. Here we go... The Croton Roll Bar Watch:

The bars do create a distraction when you look at the dial, but you CAN read the time:

The bezel turns easily (not too loose though) and you can use the bars to move it around the case:

If there is a way to use the 24 hour subdial as a second time zone, I haven't figured it out. It appears to just be a 24 hour indicator, that moves with the hour hand:

The LUME on the hands is great and really lights up. The LUME on the hour markers does light up, but not as bright as the hands:

With any other color on the dial, I would have passed on this watch. But, this green, against that slick looking black, is hot looking:

Here's my warning. I have one of those wrists that can be between sizes and I love it when a watch has micro-adjustments. This watch has a dual deployant and links that are so small, they could be half links. Still, I am between sizes. With 1 link removed, it is just too loose and when I take another link out, it is way too tight. I am used to wearing my watches a little loose, but this is too loose. After wearing it tonight, I feel it moving up and down my wrist and the edges of the links are a bit sharp. So, if it was allowed, I'd return the watch, but since I like to be able to sleep without guilt, I won't do that. The bracelet's shine and the way that the pins appear, make it look like a ceramic bracelet, with pins and collars. There are no collars.

At this angle, the bars are cool looking:

But, you can see how they can get in the way of the dial. Still, I'm ok with them. It's different and fun:

Solid end links:

Pretty jewels and decorated rotor:

At only 44mm's, this shot is not necessary, but...:

It is too dark to do the wrist shots on the porch:

I like this shot. That's a screw-down crown too:

So.... overall, I like the watch. I used a promo discount I had when I ordered mine. Honestly, I would not spend the over $200 that they are asking right now, but I'm sure that price will go back to the $150's where it was when I got it. Still, for that price, I second guessed keeping it. But, it was just funky and different enough for me to want it. The roll bars I could live without, but that green dial, against the black, is awesome. I wish it fit me better, but that's my fault for having a wrist that does not conform to "normal". I hope this helps with those of you that were thinking of grabbing one for yourselves...

Very nice. The green and black is different and I like it. The roll bars are over the top, so I would probably want it for the uniqueness alone... It's small enough to still go under a shirt sleeve, yet roll bars make it plenty manly tkromer View Public Profile Send a private message to tkromer Send email to tkromer Find all posts by tkromer Add tkromer to Your Contacts #16 08-28-2009, 04:15 AM

Magster, that's a nice looking watch there, congratulations on picking it up. I can see what you mean about the bars, but, there are lots of watches with minor distractions. You're probably right about the GMT dial, there are a few Japanese quartz movements that just keep time with the watch, and Croton uses a few of them...Sorry the bracelet is one of those difficult ones, but, I'd bet if you talked nice to David, he'd help...Wear it well, when you can, thanks for the pics! __________________ Excitable boy, they all said... dbranch View Public Profile Send a private message to dbranch Find all posts by dbranch Add dbranch to Your Contacts #19 08-28-2009, 07:38 AM

lil miss ps: BigJoe is coming 3000 miles to join us..PARTAAY..... Thanks, Ruthie! I'm going to do my best to be there. Hopefully, my surgery will be done and I'll be feeling much better, by then... I guess we all see whatever we are used to in the bars on this watch. Now that you've pointed it out, it does look like a gas stove grid!!

It is "manly" too, but sometimes us gals just gotta have fun with the men's stuff too! I don't recommend you guys trying to wear the women's watches though... Quote:

But, even though it is only a 44mm, it does "wear" bigger. Don't know if it is the roll bars, or the large print on the bezel, or what... but it looks bigger than 44mms to me.
