Not half bad looking. Great decoration on the ST16 movement. Good to see that movement using it's proper name. __________________

Very nice. I would very much like to own one of those. I love the China Made at the 6 oclock. After 2010 I expect we'll see a lot of that and the quality keeps getting better and better __________________

Google for USSeagull and you'll find the website for the USA Seagull AD. I've been collecting Chinese mechanicals for almost 2 years now and until now, the only route to a quality Chinese watch was a vintage Shanghai, DongFeng, Beijing, or Seagull. No disrespect intended towards Alpha & any other mushroom brands. I love my Alpha, Rousseau, Deporte, etc. watches but I don't consider them a "true" Chinese watch. And the eBay models Olipai, Orkina, IKColouring, Robisi, Wilon, etc. are new but very cheaply made and usually contain the very low grade standard mechanical movement. So now my search has ended for a brand new, quality Chinese, not ashamed and proud to say
China Made, watch. Cheers, gigfy gigfy View Public Profile Send a private message to gigfy Find all posts by gigfy

Re: SEA-GULL M177s If they make a full line of watches I'd contact Jim Skelton at ShopNBC and ask if he's looking for another line of Chinese made watches. If you can get on there could be real good! __________________

China Made, watch. Cheers, gigfy Thanks for the info. I have seen the Olipai watches on the net and like the looks of some of them. Sorry to hear they have some poor movements. I almost bought one so I'm glad to hear the info from you! I knew what I was buying when I got it so for the
$20 I spent, it should at least provide that much entertainment. Cheers, gigfy gigfy View Public Profile Send a private message to gigfy Find all posts by gigfy Add gigfy to Your Contacts #14 11-14-2008, 02:50 PM Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Carmel, IN Posts: 8,397 Real Name: Brian

gigfy This is very interesting. I'm curious, why the interest in Chinese mechanical/automatics? Most people won't touch them with a ten foot pole because I'm assuming reliability. You seem to have some very good knowledge of these, I wanted to know why the interest in them. __________________ Renato, Marina Militare, Zodiac, Invicta, Hamilton, SeaPro, Orient, Wenger, Riedenschild, Luminox, Swiss Legend, Seiko, Sector, Bulova, Gruen, ESQ, Tauchmeister, Vostok and Alpha all have their place..... on my wrist! You realize the first watch you list in your signature (MM) is a Chinese movement, right? Some watches that are worthwhile to own do have Chinese movements. __________________

Charlie, I do know that my MM's have Chinese movements. What I was wondering is why this person had such an interest in them because he/she seems to have great knowledge of the movements. I was just curious as to why the affinity for Chinese movement and watches, that's all. I have nothing against them at all. I love my MM's and all 3 work very well! __________________ Renato, Marina Militare, Zodiac, Invicta, Hamilton, SeaPro, Orient, Wenger, Riedenschild, Luminox, Swiss Legend, Seiko, Sector, Bulova, Gruen, ESQ, Tauchmeister, Vostok and Alpha all have their place..... on my wrist! Re: SEA-GULL M177s Thanks for all of the compliments! I started collecting about 2 years ago when I did some research for a friend that wanted to by a "James Bond" kind of watch. He got the Steinhart (Debaufre) Ocean 1 and I got the Invicta 8926 with coin edge bezel. I got that one for a few reasons. To look at the movement and to save about $250 bucks. A cheap @ss WIS was born. I am interested in mechanical movements of all types. Engineer by trade and at heart. My wife and I (I'm a he, btw), only get $50 each per payperiod for Mad Money. Mine is either spent on watches or beer. So, I don't have a lot to spend on my hobby. I found my way over to the Chinese Mechanicals forum on WUS and tried to learn as much as I could. I'm still learning. Another thing that fueled my desire for vintage Chinese mechanicals and other vintage brands (Seiko, Orient, Citizen, HMT) was that I really liked the classic styling of the 1960's dress watch. That is why I am absolutely in love with this Seagull. Classic styling, great movement, quality craftsmanship, 40mm size, etc. BTW, Brian, depending on the model, your Invicta (swiss technica ebauche), Zodiac (CL888), Tauchmeister (auto hack & handwind movement), and Alpha (Sub, PO, etc.) could all have Seagull movements. If you post a picture of the movements in your MM's I can tell you if they are Seagull also. I just findi it interesting that there are so many watches that I have that may have a Chinese movement and I never knew it. I primarily buy watches by what I like and what Sings to me. I look at some movements but not all. That's why I'm so interested in your knowledge. I knew the MM's had a Chinese movement and I have a mechanical 6497 clone and an auto that I'm told is a ETA 2824 clone. I guess I never really knew they were Chinese. I appreciate your help and answers!! __________________ Renato, Marina Militare, Zodiac, Invicta, Hamilton, SeaPro, Orient, Wenger, Riedenschild, Luminox, Swiss Legend, Seiko, Sector, Bulova, Gruen, ESQ, Tauchmeister, Vostok and Alpha all have their place..... on my wrist!
