View Full Version : Speedway is da bomb...but...
DiveMaster 05-17-2010, 09:35 AM For almost a thousand dollars?....I don't want to take a chance and have the watch be defective in some way shape or form. And then go through Invictas CS system. When they shape up I'll start buying the higher end again. Hate to do it, but that’s a lot of money to spend and have to keep your fingers crossed hoping you get a good one. Regards Juice

05-17-2010, 01:00 PM you wouldn't have to deal with Invicta till after your 30 days, i say get the ShopNBC warranty and be able to return it for refund anytime it's defective

I asked quite a few people who make big money and they where surprised that a movement like that was offered at a price of a little over 900.00 and wanted to know the brand and look sees so you have a VERRRRRY nice timepiece from all that I'm hearing:YES:

wave3214 05-17-2010, 01:18 PM You cross your fingers when you buy any timepiece. ANY thing made by man can and will occasionally fail simply because man makes mistakes occasionally. Having said that I defy you to name for me another timepiece with a movement of this quality for under 2 thousand dollars. I personally didnt make the purchase but it wasnt because I didnt want one I just couldnt afford to write a check for 1 thousand dollars, thought about it though (lol)

If this movement was in a Renato, I would buy it in a heartbeat. There have been too many QC issues with Invicta high end products to make this a slam dunk for me.

reserveman 05-17-2010, 04:03 PM I STARTED IN nOVEMBER AND I'M UP TO 44 AND I HAVE'NT HAD PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THEM NOCK ON WOOD.
Ronko Man 05-17-2010, 04:05 PM I'm with ya Clarkie! My thought is if you have the extra funds & like the watch, then you should have taken a chance at this price. Picked up the Silver!:pals:

Like all the pics and pull the trigger on the watch. I bought it in silvertone.I want that movement and I got it.
azwatchgeek 05-17-2010, 04:13 PM I had no trouble snapping up the silvertone last night. I must admit, I'm rolling the dice again buying another Invicta (although my SAIV was perfect), you never know if it's going to be perfect or not?? I must say that for $900+ it's a steal with the movement. My Corum Admiral Tides, has a similar DuboisDepraz movement and I shelled out $5,600 for it. Wish those of us that took the leap, good luck. Congrats to all who snagged this bad boy!!!

Dang Viper - How do you choose from that collection? Nice display.
SeaVulture 05-17-2010, 05:51 PM Living well = taking chances. Roger That! Is is necessary to create an entire thread with the subject and express purpose of saying that you wouldn't do something? Is this where we're going with this forum? It's becoming agravating to see these guys come around. I understand someone having reservations, but for this reason? Come on!! Say something from an educated and informed point of view, please! I'll bet you never step forward to dance with the bride, either.

Living well = taking chances. I appreciate the way you think! :)
wilco 05-17-2010, 06:13 PM He was expressing an opinion about an Invicta product. Not sure I see anything ominous or verboeten about that just because he was expressing reservations. ON a $1000 watch, I think it is a legitimate concern and from the number of responses it appears to be something folks want to discuss. As such, it is threadworthy, IMO. As far as this Speedway....I love it. I am in the NBZ so just couldnt make this one at this time. But, I would love to get the Silvertone dial version as it is just classic and timeless. As far as the movement. It is a mixed bag. A jewel and complex in its nature make this movement very desirable from a collection standpoint. I think with this kind of movement you also are taking on the responsibility that if there are issues down the road it could cost some big bucks to get cleaned, oiled, or repaired. That is just the nature of a complex beauty like this one is. And the nature and costs associated with collecting higher end mechanical watches. It is not for everyone due to the high potential costs associated with care that will be needed on something like this. I mean, I have an older Rolex sub that cost me $500 to have cleaned and oiled with a new acrylic crystal and bezel insert about 20 years ago. I need to have this redone and I can only imagine what Rolex will charge this time should I decide to have them do the service. But, that is the cost of owning a watch like a Rolex, Breitling, or other mid priced higher end watch. So, from that standpoint, I am not sure that I would consider this piece for everyone. And, for sure this is an important consideration when purchasing a complex piece like this or any mechanical or mechanical automat ic timepiece. As far as this one having problems from the get go....well,....I agree it is just a leap of faith and if it doesnt measure up.....just send it back. About all you can do if you want one. But, for $900, one heck of a deal and worth the gamble if you like what Invicta has brought to the table
with this one. Oh yeah, Viper....awesome awesome collection~~~!!!!!!

Flyback 05-17-2010, 06:58 PM I'm quoting once of the best comments I've seen on this topic from one of the other numerous threads on this topic. OK, so I'll weigh in as well. I think what causes a lot of the issue with Invicta is simply the type of company they are, which is pretty unique. Unlike a lot of companies like Rolex, Tag Heuer, and [add your favorite high end brand here], Invicta produces watches across the entire spectrum, from simple relatively cheap (yes, I said cheap, in all contexts) to pretty high end type pieces with very nice movements. However, due to the MASSIVE quantity of watches they produce, Invicta can sell a lower end watch for $100 that most other makers would charge $400 for, and a higher end watch that is absolutely
incredible for $1000 that would be $3-4000+ from any other maker. So, as collectors, we plug along and gleefully take advantage of the $300 SWISS MADE watches with SW200 movements, and when something truly fine comes along, like the Speedway with a very expensive, high end movement, we balk, because $1000 is an EXPENSIVE Invicta by our usual measuring stick. Some of us feel it was a terrific deal, some would NEVER spend that much on an Invicta. In all actuality, I think that is what is so COOL about Invicta-- that all of us, whatever our wallet or level of obsession, can find something in their offerings. And, BTW, walk into any "high end" watch shop and price out some comparable watches. Last weekend, a clerk at BBB spend a half an hour trying to convince me why a certain TAG with a quartz movement was a steal at $1150 (marked at $50% off, BTW!) Thanks, Invicta, for offering us all something. You still need to work on your CS and QC, but all things considered, I'm a happy Invicta fan!
