watchguy147258 Junior Member New Geek Exactly what is the definition of "hand made?"
Dear Jim, I was wondering what the definition of hand made is. I'm wondering if it's like swiss made where only part of the watch has to be made by hand. Also i'm wondering if a watch isn't hand made, how is it put toghether? I'm more or less new to watches and just assume that all watches have to be put together by hand. If you could enlighten me that would be great. thanks Jim.

Hand assembly of machined parts which includes direct fitment of the components which may require working with hand tools to shave down areas, or open areas up to
tighten gaps, or create a more seamless fit. If not hand assembled (and most watches are not), they are assembled on a factory assembly line with computers... much like the automated assembly of automobiles. In the 1960's both Seiko and Rolex nearly simultaneously created the mass production of watches in this manner. Though neither can claim full credit as being the firsat, it's about a tie. __________________
