What our students say...
This is a professionally accredited degree in architecture that prioritises the very best of sustainable design & technology for the built & natural environment.
will become a creative problem solver and learn to lead design teams. You will learn how to help people determine what their needs are and how architecture can contribute to improving the society we live in.
How will I know if I would like to study architecture? If you are someone who enjoys making things; cares about the environment; is interested in design and the creative side of life then the study of architecture at WIT might interest you. With us you will develop a ‘design mind’.
Unique Features of the course: - First school outside of Dublin to obtain full recognition from the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) - Member of the European Association of Architectural Education (EAAE) - Possibilities of studying in Mexico, China, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany & Denmark - Wide choice of elective subjects from ‘international languages’ to ‘athletic performance’ with sports scholarships available - One of only 12 schools of architecture world wide to have ‘internship programme’ and scholarship fund to work with leading world architect Renzo Piano in his Paris and Genoa based offices - Vibrant architectural student society involved in charity work and social events - New city centre location in one of Waterford’s finest buildings but only a short distance away from the sea and the mountains - Dedicated international team of tutors - Small class sizes with lots of individual tutoring - Our students have had great success in national and international architectural student design competitions
What Subjects will I study? Most of the time you will be learning about the design process in a studio based environment with lots of individual and group tutoring. Your studio with your own work station will become your second home. Your class mates will become a second family. The studio is based on the ‘learning through doing’ philosophy. You will start in first year learning to design simple small scale projects. Over the years the projects become more complex. You will build up a portfolio of project work each year based on different design themes. This portfolio is the main form of assessment for each year. You will also learn the practical skills necessary to communicate your design ideas such as drawing, sketching, model making, computer graphic packages as well as how the buildings are put together.
