Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Sport Management

Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Sport Management WD019 (Level 7) The Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Sport Management is a three-year degree course, which provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to work in the wider sport and leisure industry. The course offers a broad mix of business and sports/recreation modules with equal emphasis on each. A number of elective pathways allow for greater specialisation in: ■ coaching

■ sports development

■ outdoor recreation

■ adapted physical activity

■ exercise leadership

■ sports marketing

■ business & enterprise

■ human resources management

■ event management

Students will also have the opportunity to acquire some external accredited awards related to coaching, lifesaving, first aid and fitness instruction. A one-year add-on degree option enables qualified students to graduate with a Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Recreation and Sport Management.

What subjects will I study? In years one and two, students experience a broad range of introductory business and sports/recreation modules. In year three, students select preferred specialist streams. There is equal emphasis on the business and sports/recreation elements of the course across all 3 years. ■ The uniqueness of the course lies in the variety of elective pathways available, opening up a wide variety of career pathways. ■ The fitness instruction component of the course is accredited. Students can gain entry to registers of exercise professionals in Ireland and abroad. ■ During the second year of the course, students have an opportunity to participate in a 15 week work placement. ■ Students on the course have access to state of the art facilities including an exercise physiology laboratory, weights room, dance studio, swimming pool and running track and can also avail of facilities at the new WIT Sports Campus.

Sports Scholarships

Sports scholarships are also made available to selected suitable candidates. The WIT Sports Scholarship scheme offers a range of support services to successful students including financial, academic and sports science support.

Scholarship students of the Recreation and Sport Management course can gain academic credits based on their sporting commitments.

A number of places may be allocated to applicants noted for outstanding sporting achievement who reach the minimum academic entry requirements but fail to achieve the CAO entry points required. To compete for one of these places, any student who lists WD019 as a preference on their CAO application form by February 1st will automatically receive a separate form from WIT. Applicants must then complete and return the supplementary application form by a specified date as determined by WIT.
