KATY PERRY
ATY PERRY IS ARGUABLY THE BIGGEST STAR ON THE PLANET RIGHT NOW. She commands a huge following of loyal KatyCats (that’s what her fans call themselves) on social media, currently with 102 million followers on Twitter and 67 million on Instagram, and has taken her spot among the great divas atop Mt. Gaylympus alongside the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. As a teenager, Perry released her first album, as a gospel singer, in 2001. That didn’t last long as Perry was itching to sing about kissing girls, shoot whipped cream from her bosom and become one of the biggest pop icons in history. Perry jumped Noah’s Ark and landed at Capital Records where she became responsible for some major pop hits over the last decade; including “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream, “Firework,” “Roar” and many more. Now with her fifth studio album Witness, Perry is “Swish, Swish”-ing her way around the planet for her latest world tour, which brings her to both Tampa’s Amaile Arena and Orlando’s Amway Center this December, just in time for the holidays.

MICHAEL CARBONARO
I
F YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED THE CARBONARO EFFECT ON TRUTV BEFORE, stop what you’re doing and watch right now, we’ll wait... OhMyGod, right? Michael Carbonaro, the out and proud (and not bad to look at either) actor/comedian/magician, has been wowing everyday people with his onthe-street hidden camera magic show for three seasons. The Carbonaro Effect is part-CrissAngel Mindfreak (but less creepy) and partMTV’s Punk’d (but less trucker hats) as unsuspecting victims are both pranked and mystified by Carbonaro’s sleight of hand and “how’d he do that?” situations. Now you may be thinking to yourself, this is all so magical but he’s on TV so it’s probably just camera tricks and actors. Well, Carbonaro thought you might say that and is bringing his unbelievable act to you live and on stage. Blending a show full of bizarre antics and audience interaction, Carbonaro dares you to find the strings and figure out how he does it. Check out Carbonaro as he stops in Melbourne, Orlando and St. Petersburg.

RENT
20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR
I
N 1996, WE WERE LIVING IN A VERY DIFFERENT WORLD; Broadway was different, the outlook on HIV and AIDS was different, being different was different. Enter Jonathan Larson and his musical RENT. RENT, which is loosely based on the Puccini opera La Boheme, tells the story of a group of friends living in New York City’s East Village at the height of the AIDS scare. The show tackles heavy subjects like sex, disease and love; all with a soundtrack that was unlike anything heard on Broadway before. The show was a critical and commercial smash and won countless awards including multiple Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. More importantly was RENT’s cultural impact shedding light on social issues, along with getting people to talk about HIV/AIDS openly from the big stages in New York to the small town high school auditoriums where kids were singing Larson’s songs. Twenty years later, RENT is still one of the biggest musicals of all time and selling out shows from coast-tocoast. You have a chance to see the 20th Anniversary Tour at each end of Interstate 4 in Daytona and Tampa.

IVE THEATRE HAS A WAY OF PULLING OUT EMOTIONS AND ENTANGLING YOU in a story in ways other mediums of entertainment are unable to do. Unfortunately, many people can’t see some of the all-time greats perform as the big stages of New York City and London require funds that many of us do not possess. Thanks to the National Theatre Live project, the only funds you have to pull together are the few dollars it cost to sit in a movie theater and watch the magic filmed live and brought to you on the big screen. This fall, National Theatre Live will bring several plays to the Tampa Bay and Central Florida areas. Angels in America —starring Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane; is a two-part play looking at the AIDS epidemic in the 80s, and No Man’s Land stars Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart as two ageing writers who meet in a pub and exchange stories.

THE TEN TENORS T
36
HE TEN TENORS ARE ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING MUSICAL ACTS TOURING THE WORLD TODAY. The collection of 10 male singers, all from Australia, has been touring for more than 20 years, albeit not as the same 10 guys. These mates are like a classically trained version of the Puerto Rico boy band Menudo. Some may come and some may go, but they always have to maintain the power of 10. These guys perform an average of 250 shows, taking the stage in front of more than three million people, each year. Their choice of music is as eclectic as the band members themselves. Well this musical wonder from down under is returning to Florida this holiday season with The TEN Tenors: Home for the Holidays to perform traditional and contemporary versions of holiday favorites. You’ll have three chances to see them as they make their way to St. Petersburg, Lakeland and Melbourne (that’s the one on Florida’s east coast, not Australia... we hope they know that.)

NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON
N A WORLD WHERE FACTS GET FUZZY AND HOPE CAN SOMETIMES SEEM LOST, the intellectuals called out for a hero, and the hero who answered was Neil deGrasse Tyson. He is an American astrophysicist, an author and a science communicator. Tyson may be the first person to carry those titles and still be seen as a rockstar. Tyson carries a lot of science street cred with him as he is the Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City. Tyson, along with Bill Nye, has permeated into pop culture as the defenders of social justice —everything from race and class to sexual orientation and gender identity — using facts and science to prove their points. Tyson heads to the Sunshine State this October, in both Orlando and Tampa, for an evening of engaging discussion, scientific exploration and stories about his most interesting adventures as People Magazine’s Sexist Astrophysicist Alive (an actual distinction bestowed upon him).
