WATERMARK’S CENTRAL FLORIDA LIVING WITH PRIDE GUIDE - 2021

Dear Proud LGBTQ+ residents, visitors, and allies, On behalf of the residents of the Sunshine City, welcome! As you enjoy our beautiful city, let us remember those who fought for equality and contributed to our progress, both locally and throughout the world. I know without the LGBTQ+ community, our city wouldn’t shine as bright. While here, enjoy our exciting culinary scene, visit one of our many museums and galleries, or spend time along our iconic waterfront park system or St. Pete Pier. Now, more than ever, we must be demonstrative in our support of the LGBTQ+ community. If you are an ally like me, we must continue to stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ family, friends, and neighbors. We must continue to tell the world that St. Pete is a place where diversity is not just tolerated but celebrated. This will be my final year as your mayor and I want to thank you for your support throughout the years, for helping to make sure the ‘Sun Shines Here’. Please know that I will always stand up for you, and next to you, because supporting the LGBTQ+ community is a privilege. Thank you again for choosing St. Petersburg and enjoy your stay,

Greetings: Tampa, Florida has a unique culture and rich heritage, and our city is proud to be well-known globally as a diverse and inclusive community, celebrating all its citizens, businesses and organizations for the contributions and positive impact they make within our neighborhoods. The City of Tampa is very proud of our inclusiveness and protects residents and visitors from discrimination and harassment, including those within the LGBTQ community. We have proudly and consistently received the top score of 100 from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Municipal Equity Index for our LGBTQ inclusive laws, policies and services. We were one of the first cities in the region to have a domestic partnership registry and the City continues to be committed to social progress. We have included our LGBTQ owned businesses in the City’s Equal Business Opportunity Program. The LGBTQ community and the entire city celebrate with community events such as festivals, parades and concerts, the North America Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance sanctioned softball tournament is held in our city annually, and each year, Tampa Pride Day is proclaimed in the City of Tampa. We are fortunate to have dedicated organizations such as Tampa Pride, Inc., the Tampa Bay LGBT Chamber and Metro Inclusive Health in our area who advocate, celebrate, and partner with others to promote the contributions the members of the LGBTQ community make in adding to Tampa’s success as a diverse city and in enhancing our economic growth, improving neighborhoods, advancing the arts and culture scene, and adding to our rich and unique heritage. Congratulations to Watermark Publishing Group for its inaugural Tampa Bay Living with Pride guide. This magazine will provide Tampa Bay area residents and visitors to our city with the many wonderful highlights of what to see and do in our great community. Sincerely,

Jane Castor

Nightlife of Pride

Ask the Locals: Jaeda Fuentes

J

RYAN WILLIAMS-JENT

aeda Fuentes loves Tampa Bay – and Tampa Bay loves Jaeda Fuentes. The fan favorite entertainer has performed throughout the area for more than 10 years, capturing coveted titles like Miss St. Pete Pride and more in the process.

Her appreciation for the stage is more than evident, but it’s in her enthusiasm for Tampa Bay’s LGBTQ community that Fuentes really shines. She currently serves on the board for Come OUT St. Pete, which advocates for awareness and acceptance of all sexual orientations and gender identities through events surrounding National Coming Out Day. Leading by example, she utilized the holiday to come out as transgender last year. “The work is ongoing,” Fuentes says. “We are actively trying to provide crucial resources to Tampa Bay’s LGBTQ community.” While its changed drastically over the last decade, Fuentes says “the small-knit community feel of our vast and

diverse community” she fell in love with remains. She adds that “the friendships and family I've made here are what makes this community so special.” There are a number of places to cultivate that community, which is why Fuentes has detailed a few of her favorites here. “It's all what you make it,” she explains. “There is truly somewhere for everyone; no matter how you fit into the LGBTQ spectrum.” Read her favorites here and view our Business Directory on page 30 for even more places to show your Pride!

ampa Bay isn’t just an ideal stop for LGBTQ visitors, it’s also the perfect place for them to make a permanent home. It’s one of the many reasons Metro’s LGBTQ Welcome Center opened in 2014 in the heart of St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District, the birthplace of the

largest Pride celebration in Florida, St Pete Pride. The center is operated by Metro Inclusive Health, detailed on page 28, which

WATERMARK’S CENTRAL FLORIDA LIVING WITH PRIDE GUIDE - 2021

Pride 365

Tampa Bay celebrates LGBTQ Pride year-round RYAN WILLIAMS-JENT

T

here’s no shortage of ways to showcase your Pride in Tampa Bay. It’s been celebrated throughout the area by LGBTQ residents and visitors alike for decades..

While the largest celebrations have traditionally been held in June – chosen to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which birthed the modern LGBTQ civil rights movement – the desire to honor authenticity in Tampa Bay has long outgrown the month. It’s a testament to the impact the LGBTQ community has had on the region.

With so many advocates and allies proudly showing their support, this list is far from complete. Be sure to read Watermark’s Central Florida and Sarasota Living with Pride guides to see how even more of Tampa Bay’s neighbors share their LGBTQ Pride – and watch future issues of Watermark and visit WatermarkOnline.com for the latest details about each outing.
