EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR's LETTER
As we march into Pride month, we are often asked why Pride is important — and reflecting on the past year, I am reminded of the challenges our LGBTQIA+ community has faced.
We've weathered unprecedented attacks intended to silence our voices and erase our presence, targeting those in our community who are already the most at risk. We’ve watched as our trans siblings have continued to bear the brunt of discriminatory legislation aimed at erasing their very right to exist, debated on a national political stage. We’ve heard the stories surrounding the lack of resources and safe spaces for queer youth and witnessed the devastating results.
Yet in the midst of some of the most publicly harmful times our community has experienced, we still find ways to thrive, share experiences, connect and celebrate the beauty, love and resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Pride is more than a parade, it's Black and Brown trans women continuing to lead the fight for our rights in Tallahassee and across the nation, it's ensuring the most vulnerable members of our community have access to safe, affordable housing, healthcare, education, economic opportunities and social spaces. It’s showing up to support your co-workers, neighbors, friends and family.
When you attend St Pete Pride you are not only remembering our history and celebrating our community, you are making a statement that we are in this together. That we stand in solidarity with our Black, Brown, Indigenous and trans siblings. That Pride, especially in St. Pete, is a visible reminder that we are all welcome here.
In the face of adversity, we find strength in unity. The commitment of the City of St. Petersburg to inclusivity and the Pride celebration is a testament to our shared values. Together, we stand as a powerful force for equality and acceptance. Pride is more than just a festival; it's a lifeline for so many in our community.
I remember my first Pride vividly — the feeling of belonging, of being seen and accepted for who I truly am — which is echoed in the stories shared by St Pete Pride attendees and an experience we strive to provide for every LGBTQIA+ person in our community, not just in June, but every day of the year.
This is something that we cannot and do not accomplish alone. Without the unwavering support and dedication of the City of
St. Petersburg, Mayor Ken Welch, City Council members, St Pete Pride’s Board of Directors, committed volunteers, community partners and our generous event sponsors, St Pete Pride would not only be radically altered, but so too would the remarkable and inclusive community in and around St. Petersburg, which consistently fosters opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ community to thrive throughout the year.
We owe a debt of gratitude to our trans and drag communities, who have been at the forefront of our movement since its inception. We celebrate their joy, their resilience and their invaluable contributions to our community. Yet, as we celebrate, we must also recognize the ongoing fight for equality: loudly advocating and amplifying the message that trans rights are human rights, Black Lives Matter and that LGBTQIA+ individuals deserve the right to live authentically, without fear of discrimination or violence.
Despite the challenges we face, our community remains a vibrant tapestry of joy and resilience. We are a reminder that love knows no bounds and that we are all worthy of a long life lived authentically. To that end, we cannot win without each other. We need you to show up and show the world that being queer in Florida is celebrated and that no matter what legislators or public figures are telling us, that we are welcome here. That we are not just accepted but celebrated, our presence is not just welcomed but necessary.
As we start St Pete Pride's 22nd season, we are calling on you, our LGBTQIA+ family and allies, to join us in showing up and standing up for liberation, celebration, representation and resistance.
As we embark on another Pride season, let us join together as a beacon of hope and resilience. If you see me at any of our events, please come say hello. Your stories, your experiences — they are what make our work worth it.
With love and pride,
Nicole Berman st pete pride Executive Director

PRESIDENT'S LETTER
The last year has been an absolute roller coaster. We have witnessed a surge in legislation targeting LGBTQIA+ individuals, with Florida regrettably ranking among the top states for the number of murders of our trans siblings. Women’s rights continue to be chipped away, piece by piece. Yet, amidst these challenges, we have seen the remarkable power of non-violent activism, communities rallying in solidarity and coalitions forming in ways reminiscent of the Civil Rights Movement. This unity and resilience in the face of adversity are truly inspiring.
As we finalized preparations for this year's events, a reporter asked me to comment on the Skyway Bridge not being lit in Pride colors during June, with the "Summer of Freedom" instead leaving the bridge red, white and blue. This decision, while symbolically significant, pales in comparison to the myriad of other issues intersecting with our community. What perturbed me most was the insinuation that being American and being Queer were at odds. On the contrary, the Stonewall Rebellion is one of the most American acts imaginable. Our forefathers fought to form a nation where they could see themselves reflected in its governance. Protesting for our rights, for our visibility and for our place in society is profoundly American.
In my first year as president, I am overjoyed to continue the legacy of the incredible leaders who have come before me. I am profoundly grateful for their leadership and vision, which have enabled us to grow into the largest Pride organization in Florida and one of the Top 10 in the country. Their hard work over the past 22 years has paved the way for us to celebrate our identities and continue the fight for our rights. Even in this legacy we are still celebrating a first. As the first Black board president I celebrate the progress we’ve undertaken and recognize the challenges ahead of us. It is my heart’s desire for every person under our beautifully diverse umbrella to see themselves represented in our Revolution.
This year, we chose our theme with great intention: The Rainbow Revolution. This theme is both an homage to our history and a rallying call for our future. It reflects our ongoing struggle and our relentless spirit. The Rainbow
Revolution symbolizes our vibrant diversity and our united front in the face of injustice. It calls on us to remember our past battles and to draw strength from them as we push forward.
As we celebrate Pride this year, let us remember that our visibility is our strength. Our diversity is our power. Together, we will continue to fight for a world where everyone, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation, can live openly and authentically. We will not be silenced. We will not be erased. We will continue to march, to protest and to celebrate who we are with pride and with courage.
Thank you to each and every one of you for being a part of this journey. Your passion, your activism and your unwavering support make all the difference. Here’s to a vibrant, inclusive and revolutionary Pride season!
In solidarity,
Dr. Byron Green-Calisch St Pete Pride Board President

Prouder than Ever
St Pete Pride enters 22nd season
Ryan Williams-Jent
Estimates show St Pete Pride welcomed more than 500,000 people to the city of St. Petersburg last year, with nearly 350,000 attending the parade and over 175,000 enjoying the street festival. June 2023 once again secured the organization’s status as the producer of Florida’s largest Pride celebration.
But the nonprofit’s board, bolstered by their 2023 Royal Court — Miss St Pete Pride Ceazia Giovanni Kreshé, Mr. St Pete Pride Vyn Suazion and Mx. St Pete Pride KaMarion Lavish — didn’t stop there, and neither did their supporters. St Pete Pride’s annual Red & Green fundraiser returned in December to raise more than $40,000 for LGBTQ+ youth programming and its community partners.
All that and more paved the way for St Pete Pride’s 22nd season. The organization initially shared their 2024 lineup in January, a series of signature events detailed in this guide that were planned by one of the most diverse boards in the nonprofit’s history.
That body is led by Dr. Byron Green-Calisch, an LGBTQ+ advocate, business owner, consultant and public speaker. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctorate of Education from North Carolina State University and his experiences have led him to become an advocate for equity in all spaces.
Green-Calisch is also Black, which means his election marked a first for St Pete Pride’s board.
“Being the first Black president is indeed a big deal,” he told Watermark in January. “Representation in and of itself is important. We want to make sure that people are able to see what the future might look like — and we know that if you see something, you’re more likely to engage in it.”
The board’s vice president is Stephanie Morge, a Florida native who’s called Tampa Bay home since 2002. She graduated from USF Tampa with a degree in finance and currently leads Power Design Inc.’s Learning & Development Department while volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, SPCA Tampa Bay, USF’s Women in Leadership & Philanthropy, Empath Partners in Care and serving on the CASA Pinellas board.
Darius Lightsey is St Pete Pride’s secretary. A graduate of FSU, he’s lived in St. Petersburg since 2018 and has worked in public and mental health for over a decade. Lightsey relocated to the region from Tallahassee to work as the HIV/AIDS Program Manager for the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas, leading the effort to reduce new incidences of HIV acquisition in an eight-county service delivery area.
Stanley Solomons rounds out St Pete Pride’s executive committee. Its treasurer is the body’s longest-serving member; Solomons has served in various capacities including president and co-chair since 2008. The former financial analyst says he’s happy to give back to the community he calls home.
Seven other LGBTQ+ advocates serve on the board. Gabe Alves-Tomko, a Brazil native who has a bachelor’s degree in international studies from USF and has found his passion in real estate, is among them. He takes pride in helping his clients and the community at large.
Immani Brown, the author and performer also known as Immani Love, is happy to do the same. A native of Philadelphia, she brings her appreciation for the arts and more to the body and outside of her responsibilities, regularly performs her erotic poetry and short stories throughout the world.
Another former St Pete Pride president currently serves on the board, Tiffany Freisberg. She is the co-founder and creative director of LionMaus Media, a creative advertising and social agency with Pride-supporting clients like Tampa General Hospital and Riverside Recovery, and is originally from London. She moved to St. Petersburg during Pride 2019 with her wife and three daughters.
St Pete Pride board member Clifford Hobbs, a native of Iowa, has lived in St.

Petersburg for nearly a decade. He is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, has worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and enjoys serving his community in a myriad of ways — including as the Mx St Pete Pride pageant director.
Hobbs oversaw this year’s pageant May 26, welcoming national and local legends to perform as entertainers vied to become St Pete Pride’s 2024 Royal Court. “The Mx St. Pete Pride Pageant is more than just a pageant — it’s a showcase of St. Pete’s best entertainers, past, present and future,” he shared ahead of time.
Molly Robison, a Colorado transplant, moved to Florida in recent years to escape the cold and snow. What she found in St. Petersburg was a community full of “wonderful, diverse people who make it special,” she says.
Noelle Soncrant, the first visibly transgender financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual, dedicates her time to helping the local community with financial planning and
other needs. She loves to cook, practice yoga and spend time with other passionate people like Sam(ira) Obeid, St Pete Pride’s final board member. An internationally renowned spoken word poet and educator on intersectionality, systemic discrimination and resistance, Obeid is an activist and an advocate for youth voice. Her company Poetry Is Activism fights discrimination through poetry, education, civic engagement and publishing.
Each member is supported by St Pete Pride Executive Director Nicole Berman, who entered their third season in the role this year. Their background in nonprofit administration, development, fundraising and more has been instrumental in furthering St Pete Pride’s mission.
Berman, their spouse Cait and their three pups are incredibly excited to be a part of the St Pete Pride team and live in St. Petersburg — a city which is proud to host Florida’s largest LGBTQ+ celebration. Officials gathered May 31 to hoist the Progressive Pride flag above City Hall for the 11th year in a row to prove it, kicking off St Pete Pride’s 22nd season that promises to be prouder than ever before. You can read all about how in these pages.

Dear Proud LGBTQ+ Residents, Visitors and Allies,
Welcome to Florida's largest LGBTQ+ Pride celebration! St. Pete Pride returns with an array of events throughout the month of June, including more activities that lift up the diversity of our community.
Inclusive Progress guides my administration. In November 2023, for the tenth year in a row, the City of St. Petersburg scored a perfect 100 on the Human Rights Campaign's annual Municipal Equality Index (MEI) - the only nationwide assessment of LGBTQ+ inclusion in municipal law, policy, and services.
We are motivated for the City to explore more ways in which our LGBTQ+ community can be supported, promoted, and valued. I am thrilled to be celebrating you again this year and honored to be sharing in the love, compassion, and unity that St. Pete Pride events represent.

Rainbow Revolutionaries
St Pete Pride’s 2024 Grand Marshals
Ryan Williams-Jent and Chloe Wagner
StPete Pride launched their search for this year’s grand marshals in April, seeking nominees who “embodied the vibrant spirit of a Rainbow Revolution icon” in Tampa Bay.
“Let us come together to celebrate and honor those who have made a profound impact on the journey towards a more inclusive and accepting society,” the organization shared. “Together, let us elevate the voices and stories of our local LGBTQIA+ heroes and allies who continue to pave the way for progress and change.”
Supporters responded in droves, nominating worthy advocates from throughout the region. One of this year’s honorees was chosen by the St Pete Pride board, while the other two were chosen by community vote.
“We are incredibly proud to honor them and all of their accomplishments this season,” St Pete Pride shared when this year’s honorees were announced May 3. You can see each of them leading the St Pete Pride Parade this year on June 22, detailed on p. 44.
Board Pick: Michele Rayner
State Rep. Michele Rayner made history in 2020 with her election, becoming the first Black, openly queer woman to join the State Legislature. She hasn’t slowed down since.
Rayner has advocated for her constituents and community in and outside of Tallahassee. She credits her upbringing by a family of Pinellas County changemakers; her mother was one of the first Black social workers in St. Petersburg and her father successfully put himself through engineering school while working in a warehouse.
The representative has shared that he always told her while growing up to “help others, do the right thing and most of all, always keep your head up high.” It’s a mantra Rayner has emulated in all she does, leading St Pete Pride to recognize her as one of this year’s grand marshals.
Also a civil rights and social justice attorney, she started her career as a public defender at the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s office. Rayner has said her time in the role taught her “the importance of truly listening to and steadfastly advocating for clients who have limited agency,” preparing her to lead.
“The most effective leaders are those who lead from a place of empathy and compassion — and there’s a particular kind of compassion and empathy that comes from being forced to dance through the complexities of being queer, Black and a woman,” she shared with Watermark in 2020. “You understand how systemic oppression compounds at the intersections, making people feel like they have to choose what pieces of them are worth protecting or advocating for.
“The full breadth and depth of my humanity matters, and I commit to being the kind of leader who will fight every single day to make sure that anyone living here knows that theirs does too,” she shared. That’s what she’s done.

Community Pick: Dena Cass
Dena Cass is known nationwide for her 40 years of entertaining the community. She has participated in pageants across the nation with her most recent title being Miss Heart of the Nation at Large.
Cass has spent her time in the community leading “countless benefits to raise thousands of dollars for HIV and AIDS and the trans community,” she says. In honor of her hard work, she was chosen by the community to be one of St Pete Pride’s 2024 grand marshals.
“I love our community because when they need something, the community seems to stick together,” Cass says. “There are a lot of different establishments, a lot of different cliques, a lot of different people, but in the end we’re all the same and when one of us is in need, we try to be there for them.”
A beacon of pride in Tampa Bay, Cass says she’s worked to raise awareness for the region’s LGBTQ+ community throughout her career. She has won several pageant titles, including Miss Large and Lovely 2022, Miss Mardi Gras 2022, Miss Sawmill 2022 and many more. She prides herself on her personal motto: “if someone doesn't have a smile, then give them yours.”
“I think Pride is important because it's what we are,” Cass notes. “It allows us to be who we are and how we feel. Everyone should have the right to live in their skin, feel proud and be happy with who they are, what they look like and who they love.” Cass says she wasn’t expecting to be honored this year but calls it a career highlight.
“It made me so excited because each day for me is a new beginning,” Cass explains. “I wake up every day feeling blessed that I'm still here and that I can still make a difference.”
The entertainer, who judged this year’s Mx St Pete Pride pageant, also says she’s excited for the rest of this year’s festivities. “You can look and tell that they have worked very hard to keep everyone happy and to make it an event that everyone can be proud of,” she notes. “I'm so excited to be a part of this venture and I can't wait to meet all of you at the parade.”
Community Pick: Jane Haskell
Jane Haskell has made a name for herself in St. Petersburg as an advocate for the local community, working as Empath Partners in Care’s LGBTQ+ Community Support Counselor and more.
It’s a role which allowed her to work with national organizations like the Human Rights Campaign and SAGE, which serves LGBTQ+ elders. Haskell recently accepted a remote role as Director of Collaborations for the latter organization and will continue to invest in EPIC’s work to make a local and national impact in that way.
“Bettering the local LGBTQ+ community is about building relationships,” she explains. “While my role at EPIC has created visibility for LGBTQ+ older adults, I position myself as a thought leader; someone people can pick up the phone and call when they have a question about creating inclusive spaces, procedures and policies for LGBTQ+ people.”
A New York native, Haskell was initially apprehensive about her Florida relocation two years ago as a queer transwoman, but says she was immediately met with open arms from the St. Petersburg community. That’s evident in her selection as one of this year’s grand marshals.
“I was shocked about this recognition … but I have been receiving the honor and reminding myself of the connections I have made, the spaces I have created and the impact these efforts have had on the LGBTQ+ community here in Tampa Bay,” she says. Being recognized at St Pete Pride isn’t something she takes lightly.
“Pride is important to me because for years, pride was more about the fight to get here than it was about celebration,” Haskell says. “Yes, pride has always been a celebration of who we are, where we have been and where we are going — it is also a reminder that our ancestors and our elders lived in a very different, more challenging world than we live in today. Pride is the ultimate ‘thank you’ to those that came before me.”
She also urges the community to “celebrate pride every single day.”
“Support LGBTQ+ people, organizations and St Pete Pride every month through the year,” Haskell stresses. “We, our struggles and our successes, exist every day. Show us the same love and momentum you show during Pride month every day.”

Shades of Pride 2024
St Pete Pride’s Juneteenth LGBTQ+ Arts & Musical Festival
Pete Pride, in partnership with Metro Inclusive Health, is proud to present the fourth annual Shades of Pride June 14-15 at the Factory St. Pete.
The Factory St. Pete and The Fairgrounds St. Pete have been existing partners in St Pete Pride’s mission to be a more inclusive and diverse organization and their continued partnership has helped Shades of Pride become a two-day celebration this year. Doors to the festival will open at 5 p.m. on June 14 and 1 p.m. on June 15.
This celebration of the Black and Brown LGBTQ+ experience is powered by several community organizations. They include Evolve Tampa Bay, Justice Over Everything, The King Jives Show, Yummy’s World, Slam Anderson, Lips Florida, Invincible Summer Enterprises and the Central Florida Ballroom Collective.
The Shades of Pride Committee is co-chaired by St Pete Pride Board Members Clifford Hobbs and Darius Lightsey in collaboration with committee members Cadin Small, De’Mario Jives, Slam Anderson, Antonio Miles, Hillary VanDyke, Ashunte Coleman and Yummy Reed. This event is all about the free expression of the Black and Brown LGBTQ+ experience — and in 2024, we have added the music and arts festival component that will amplify that message through activities over the two-day span.
Ballroom culture is one of the staples of the Black and Brown LGBTQ+ experience, promoting family and unity for a population in which many have felt excluded from the wider world by their families and society. That’s why the first day will feature Prequel to Ballroom with legendary Ballroom personality Lieomy Miyake Mugler, who serves as judge.
The event is scheduled from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will highlight the history of ballroom/showcase. A team production category will also be headed by captains who will compete for a $1,000 grand prize.
The Shade vs. Pride Poetry Slam will follow from 7-10 p.m., produced by Slam Anderson and hosted by the nationally recognized poet NovaCane. The gathering will feature 20 slammer spots vying for a $3,000 grand prize.
The Pride, Power and Passion Party closes the evening from 11 p.m.-3 a.m. Powered by Evolve Tampa Bay and hosted by celebrity social media influencer TaeDa Tea, the party has an Afrofuturism theme and will feature a live performance by national recording artist SevnDeep. DJ Donnie Luv will be on the 1’s and 2’s in this safe space of free expression for all attendees.
Doors open at 12:30 p.m. for day two. Saturday’s events will include the Vogue 101 class from 1-2 p.m. with Miyake-Mugler and the Soul Glow artist kickback and mixer, scheduled from 2-4 p.m. It will feature five LGBTQ+ artists from the Tampa Bay region — so come see or purchase amazing artwork and meet the incredible artists behind the art: Tracey Jones, Selena Ferrer, Pain Killer Cam, Jau and Kleon. The Shades of Pride concert will be held after that, scheduled 4-7 p.m. It will welcome local and regional musical acts DJ Dar Luz, Taniyah Iman, Imani Valentino, Ceazia Giovanni Creshe, Faithe, Autumn Vee, Antonio Ultra, Jaquarius, Niomi Onassis Knight, Hym and the nationally celebrated Jazelle Barbie Royale.
Day two will also feature three panel discussions, beginning with “Intersectional Politics and Advocacy.” Justice Over Everything will host and welcome Florida state Sen. Shevrin Jones, 2024 Grand Marshal and
Florida state Rep. Michelle Rayner ,and St. Petersburg LGTBQ+ Liaison Eric Vaughn, moderated by St Pete Pride President Dr. Byron GreenCalisch. Opening and closing remarks will be delivered by Equality Florida Executive Director Nadine Smith.
The second panel is scheduled 5-7 p.m. and will focus on LGBTQ+ “Influential Influencers," moderated by King De’Mario Jives. Panelists include Donat Ricketts, Diamond Cassadine, TaeDa Tea, Leiomy Miyake-Mugler and Darius Lightsey. The “Black & Brown Trans Panel Experience” from 7-9 p.m. is the third discussion, produced by LIPS Florida Executive Director Ashunte Coleman and moderated by international pageantry queen and Ballroom sensation Jazelle Barbie Royale. It will highlight the lived experiences of six Black and Brown trans women who serve as executive directors of their own nonprofits, each of which uplift their community.
The second night will culminate with The Honors Ball, featuring Yummy Xclusive-Lanvin and hosted by TABU. This will serve as a tribute
to the diverse facets of Black culture and will elevate the exhilarating culture of Ballroom.
The Honors Ball aims to recognize and celebrate the community that is Ballroom and will award over $8,000 in prize money to winners of categories like Sex Siren v Body v Perfect 10’s (Face, Body & Realness) and Runway. DJ Nightwing will be on the 1’s and 2’s for the Ball.
National acts for Shades include SevnDeep, Jazelle Barbie Royale, Tae Da Tea, Leiomy Miyake-Mugler, Diamond Carrington, Donat Ricketts and many other special guests. Food trucks will be available at the venue both days and while the event is free, limited special VIP seating and tables are available for purchase at StPetePride.org.
For more information about this year's Shades of Pride, see p. 50. Specific questions can also be sent to St Pete Pride Board Members Darius Lightsey at Darius@StPetePride. com or Clifford Hobbs at Clifford@ StPetePride.com.

St Pete Pride 2024 Entertainment
Ryan
Williams-Jent
When it comes to entertainment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at St Pete Pride. Local legends like the 2024 Mx St Pete Pride Royal Court and international icons from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” will feature at events all month long. You can read more about this season’s festivities on p. 44 and learn all about this year’s entertainment here, from headliners to hometown heroes.
Friday Night Concert Headliner: Sasha Colby
Sasha Colby is a drag performer, actress, dancer, LGBTQ+ activist and advocate. She’s also the first native Hawaiian trans person to ever win “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
Colby snatched the crown on the popular reality competition’s 15th season last year. She dedicated the win “to every trans person past, present and future — because we are not going anywhere.”
Raised in a religious family, the entertainer has said she knew she was different from a young age. Dance became an outlet for her at 13 years old and she attended her first drag show four years later, the cast of which largely consisted of trans women.
“Sasha felt a resonance that allowed her to see her true self in a new light and identify what she was meant to do with her life: perform and entertain,” her website reads. “Shortly after, Sasha met Cassandra Colby of the legendary House of Colby, who would take Sasha under her wing as a drag mother and not only give her life direction but introduce her to the pageantry drag circuit that would provide meaning, belonging and great success.”
Pageantry and drag were never the same. Colby won Miss Continental in 2012 and amassed a significant following long before “Drag Race,” a fan base that’s only grown since. Earlier this year her 22-city, solo North American tour welcomed audiences from coast to coast.
Colby brings her goddess energy to St Pete Pride’s Friday Night Concert next, an outing scheduled from 6-10 p.m. at Jannus Live. Joining the icon at this year’s event will be DJ Manne, Daddy Sparkle, Selena Witaweena, Brianna
Summers, Justine B. Knights, Phaedra E. Rose, Dante V. Lane Cardoza, Charlotte Diamond Star, Autumn Vee, Rockell Blu, Kamden T. Rage, Ceazia Giovanni Kreshé, Sky Lemay, Jay Miah, Keirra Ka'oir Summers, Imani Valentino, Burly Nathan, Mr. Vyn Suazion, Daphne Ferraro, Alice Marie Gripp, Mr. Gripp, Jared Vasquez and Yummy’s World.
“Closing out the night is your favorite drag queen's favorite drag queen — the incredibly talented, Sasha Colby,” St Pete Pride teases. “This evening will have your eyes glued to the stage and is guaranteed to please!”
Parade Day Festival
Main Stage Headliner: Saucy Santana
Rapper, reality show star and recording artist Saucy Santana is a viral sensation, a Florida native as well known for his fierce looks as he is his unforgettable music.
Santana launched his recording career in 2019. His success as a rapper was immediate: “Walk Em Like a Dog” gained one million streams on SoundCloud within a week of its release and the track has continued to climb with his success.
Santana's viral hits on TikTok, YouTube

and Instagram have also spawned dance challenges and trends that have propelled his career even further. The proud, openly gay rapper has taken the world by storm with hits like “Walk” and “Material Girl,” collaborating with superstar singer and longtime LGBTQ+ ally Madonna and more.
“Coming into rap, I was strategic,” the entertainer has reflected on his success. “I said I was going to rap from a girl’s standpoint and I remember when my song came out, it went viral. I remember 2019, and 2020, I couldn’t be in certain rooms. Dudes was like ‘nah’ — not necessarily rude to me, but you could just feel the energy. But one thing about me, once you be around me, people love me.”
The rapper has also said he wants his legacy to be one that allows other LGBTQ+ entertainers to flourish. With appearances on “Love & Hip Hop” and nominations for MTV Music Awards and a People’s Choice Award, it’s clear he is well on his way to paving the way for generations to come.
Santana will perform during this year’s St Pete Pride Parade Day Festival on the main stage from 9-10 p.m., preceded by the entertainers listed on the right.

Nonprof it Spotlight: TransNetwork
Ryan Williams-Jent
TransNetwork launched in 2023 to build “a community where trans and gender expansive people thrive as healthy, connected and supported members of society.”
The organization was co-founded by Tampa Bay LGBTQ+ advocates Tristan Byrnes, Andy Citino and Andre Clarke. The trio came together to combat mounting attacks on trans health care in Florida as well as the misinformation surrounding the state's other anti-trans policies and laws.
“People were absolutely petrified,” Clarke explained to Watermark. “We were hearing about friends, relatives and loved ones moving out of state because they thought that they were suddenly going to be a part of some sort of pogrom. We needed to start something to fill a void.”
The group began by holding town halls at LGBTQ+-affirming
churches, welcoming legal experts and LGBTQ+ activists to quell fears. Since their founding they have partnered with organizations throughout the region to unite trans Floridians in a myriad of ways, from affirming picnics that celebrate trans joy to inclusive events that have raised thousands for equality.
“What we hear from the trans community more than anything is that there is a need for a place to come together to know we’re not alone and to be amongst our people,” Byrnes has said. “We are going to have more of these types of events because that’s what’s needed. As we hold more events our mission is becoming more defined."
“Network is part of our name for a reason,” Citino added.
Whether it’s through offering connections to healthcare, legal assistance or community support, TransNetwork exists now as a source of hope and empowerment for transgender individuals in St. Petersburg and beyond. Through collaboration, education and activism, they’re working toward a future where everyone can live authentically and freely — no matter their gender identity.
TransNetwork will present this year’s Trans March along with TransFest and TransAction Florida June 22, leading the St Pete Pride Parade. Read all about the event on p. 44.

St. Pete-Clearwater is a sun-drenched paradise nestled along Florida’s vibrant Gulf Coast. It’s also a hub for the local LGBTQIA+ community, and shines particularly bright every June amidst the annual St. Pete Pride Festival. In fact, St. Pete hosts one of the nation’s largest Pride celebrations, welcoming around 300,000 attendees in 2023. And the pride doesn’t end there, as the destination is also home to several thriving gayborhoods and queer-owned businesses, making it an evergreen destination for all walks of life.
One local entrepreneur is David Fischer who says he was drawn to the area’s small-town feel and creative atmosphere. Inspired by what he calls an “overtly creative” community, Fischer created several LGBTQIA+ focused businesses including the retail store Za’Zood, modern speakeasy The Saint, and the award-winning gay bar COCKtail. His latest
The Wet Spot
venture has been the 54-room Mari Jean Hotel and The Wet Spot, a pool bar and day club with cabana rentals.
For Fischer, developing these spaces was a labor of love meant to give back to the LGBTQIA+ community in a meaningful way by providing upscale venues that celebrate queer identity. “We are all about making a safe space for the community...It was an opportunity to give people what they haven’t had,” he explains. So, while St. Pete-Clearwater is best known for award-winning beaches and world-renowned museums, it also proves to be a welcoming and inclusive destination that embraces differences and invites locals and visitors alike to be proud of who they are.
