PARTNER OPPORTUNITY SOUTH SUDAN

PARTNER OPPORTUNITY For over 32 years (2016), Watoto Church has worked alongside the community in Uganda, to identify key needs. As a church, we believe in bringing the presence of Christ through vibrant celebration services, but also being relevant to the community in which we live with practical acts of kindness.

Similar to the model we employed in Uganda, we can do something about it.

We have, therefore, established projects to meet community needs, including those related to child care, health, education, women empowerment and other community-based projects.

We have identified property, approximately 4 acres in the heart of downtown Juba (pictured here) for this purpose. It is currently valued at USD 4 million. As a long-term friend of Watoto, we take this opportunity to invite you to partner with us in this exciting and noble venture.

In 2012, we saw the growing need to expand into South Sudan. We have been on the ground in Juba, the nation’s capital, for over 3 years and with local authorities and community members, have identified pressing needs in this region.

The priority is to consolidate our work on the ground in a permanent place to facilitate church activities and community projects that will meet some of these needs.

We believe that this will help us reach many people for Christ.

ABOUT WATOTO CHURCH Launched with 75 people on Sunday 22nd April 1984, Watoto Church has grown to become an example of true transformation in Africa. Today, more than 25,000 people attend one of the 31 weekend services at 11 campuses in Kampala and Gulu, Uganda; and Juba, South Sudan. Watoto Church is an English-speaking cell-based, community church established in Kampala, Uganda. It has become globally known for its focus on community relevance, based on the key mandate to expedite love, justice through holistic ministry. COMMUNITY IMPACT In 1994, Watoto Church founded Watoto Child Care Ministries (www.watoto.com), an international holistic care program that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned children and vulnerable women in Uganda. It is positioned to rescue an individual, raise each one as a leader in their chosen sphere of life so that they in turn will rebuild their nation. The model involves physical care; medical intervention including HIV/AIDS treatment; education - formal and vocational; counselling and emotional well being; as well as moral and spiritual discipleship. To date, Watoto Child Care Ministries has provided holistic care for over 4,000 orphaned and vulnerable children (about 3,000 in current care). This includes former child soldiers and those born to rebel leaders during the civil war. Some of these have already gone on to become lawyers, teachers, computer scientists, journalists, farmers, doctors, and are impacting society positively as a result.

PAUL MUTEBI Watoto Graduate & Computer Scientist After losing his father 19 years ago, Paul’s (26) future seemed so uncertain. No one could have imagined that his life would turn out the way it has. Paul Mutebi is currently a computer scientist working with World Bank managing three projects involving the improvement of education, sensitisation of farmers on how to eradicate banana bacteria wilt infection and improving health by monitoring drug availability. He is also working with UNICEF.

Through Watoto’s Living Hope initiative, dignity has been restored to almost 3,000 vulnerable women, who have been empowered with literacy, business and practical skills. Their children, more than 15,000 boys and girls, now have a better chance at a future. In addition to empowering adult women, Living Hope started an initiative called ‘Keep A Girl In School’ which aims to address primary school dropout and increase primary school exam completion among adolescent girls. This is achieved through the provision of sanitary towels and hygiene supplies along with strategic teaching on character development and life skills. The program

also educates parents and the extended community on the benefits of girl child education. 101.4 PowerFM, Watoto Church’s urban Christian radio station is impacting the lives of Uganda’s youth. The station’s current listenership includes more than 250,000 up and coming young people. Watoto comes alongside the community to drive practical improvements, including water projects, hospital refurbishments, school renovations, access road works, and city wide clean ups to name a few. This initiative is done through over 2,900 thriving cell (small) groups.
