Iskandar Malaysia’s Growth is on Track and Its Flagship Extended Across Johor

skandar Malaysia is confident that the region’s inflow of investments from domestic and foreign investors will continue to grow from this year onward and this will enhance the whole ecosystem in Iskandar Malaysia as the spill-over effects will have a higher impact on the region’s economy and the Rakyat.

“The progress Iskandar Malaysia has steadily charted since 2006 has been truly spectacular and will be key in helping Malaysia to reclaim its leadership as the ‘Asian Tiger’. As the agency driving the development of Iskandar Malaysia, I remain optimistic on the role and responsibilities of IRDA in supporting the development of

the State of Johor and the nation’s agendas,” said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, who is also Iskandar Regional Development Authority’s (IRDA) Co-chairman, during IRDA’s 24th Members of Authority (MoA) meeting.

Acknowledging the positive and impactful results that Iskandar Malaysia has achieved, The MoA has approved a proposal to extend the area of the Iskandar Development region bringing the total area from 2217 km square to 4749 km square.

They include parts of the districts of Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Pontian.

Malaysia should be able to offer more land for development at affordable cost, and at the same time bringing modern agriculture as one of its new promoted sectors.

In terms of economic growth, Iskandar Malaysia recorded committed investments of RM32.23 billion in 2018, where RM22.03 billion represent investments that have been realised. This contributed to the total cumulative committed investment of RM285.34 billion from 2006 to 31st Dec 2018.

The MoA also supported Iskandar Malaysia’s strong global supply linkages by becoming the home for the first ASEAN Industrial Hub. To date, Iskandar Malaysia

has created about 740,000 employment opportunities, of which 15% are skilled positions.

However, there are still certain vacancies that are not filled by Malaysians, especially by the local youth. Therefore, more incentives need to be done to attract talent here.

With regards to household income, one of the ways to help the Rakyat is to have an affordable and integrated public transportation system such as Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit (IMBRT) system where comfort, safety and affordability will go a long way in ensuring that 90% of the population in Iskandar Malaysia have access and benefit from it. - by The Iskandarian TI

KPRJ to Enhance Portfolio

ncorporated in 1995, Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor Sdn. Bhd. (KPRJ) is a private limited company wholly owned by the State Government of Johor. Over the years, KPRJ has built a reputation as a major developer in social and infrastructural projects for the state of Johor.

On his meet and greet session with the staff, Menteri Besar Johor Dato’ Osman Bin Haji Sapian who is also the Chairman of KPRJ reminded the workforce to remain dedicated to fulfilling the vision of the current government and to work diligently without compromising the integrity of the organisation.

“In uncertain economic times, we must constantly strive to be dedicated, be free from corruption and come up with new business ideas from time to time for long term gain of the company,” said Osman.

Osman also spoke about rebranding KPRJ to suit with the times and relocating the office to a more conducive workspace.

“We must coin a simpler and more dynamic name and have a corporate logo that is easy to identity and remember. I’ve seen the current office space and it is quite congested

and appears hidden from public view so we will be relocating to a bigger space by the first quarter of the year to an office space that has a frontage,” he said.

KPRJ’s office is set to move to Damansara Aliff, a township located between Tampoi and Bandar Baru UDA. Drawing examples from Genting and Tiong Nam, Osman said KPRJ must look at diversifying their business portfolios and explore venturing into different segments of the industry.

“When we diversify and venture into new businesses, we can attract new investments and garner better market confidence. Maybe KPRJ can eventually become a public listed company,” added Osman. - by Edey Suresh TI

T

he Johor Area Rehabilitation Organisation (JARO) hosted its annual Chinese New Year lunch recently at New York Hotel. Lunch for all 48 OKU members of JARO was sponsored by the hotel; a generous courtesy offered for the past seven years.

The JARO building at Jalan Sungai Chat is undergoing a RM1.8 million renovation to improve its facilities, and more OKU-friendly in collaboration with ThinkCity. With ThinkCity’s donation of RM500,000, they are currently sourcing for funds for another RM600,000.

Formed in 1952, JARO was

originally a rehabilitation centre for cured TB patients to learn trade and handicraft. Today, it empowers people with learning or physical disabilities by training them with paid skills, mainly in hand-stitched leather bookbinding, rattan weaving, and tailoring, stimulated in a working environment such as having punch cards for entry and having their salaries deducted for being late. In his speech before the luncheon, Chairman Dato Jimmy Low said that the jobs provided them a sense of “dignity and being a part of the society.”

saw angpows distributed to the disabled, and a renewal and newcommitment cheques of RM5000 were received as a part of the JARO OKU Adoption Programme. The programme enables an ‘adoption’ or support and sustainability of one disabled person at JARO at RM5000 for one year. JARO sends reports and progress of the individual ‘adopted’ person to the contributor, also known as a friend of JARO. Out of the 48 OKU members, 15 have been ‘adopted’ in the programme.

inister of Education, Dr. Maszlee Malik had paid a visit to EduCity in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, to get a closer look at the unique concept and education opportunities offered at the fully integrated education hub. Higher Education Department Director-General, Datin Paduka Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Tapsir and Chairman of Education Malaysia Global Services, Dato’ Abdul Rahman Mohamed Shariff, accompanied the minister during the half-day site visit. “ The Ministr y is ver y pleased with the various initiatives and investments by Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) in building a comprehensive education hub in Iskandar Puteri which is also the

first of its kind in Malaysia and this region. Equipped with comprehensive infrastructure, EduCity offers a “plug & play” concept in the set-up of any faculty/campus in EduCity. This makes EduCity an ideal location for any international/local university to start or expand their presence in Malaysia,” said Dr. Maszlee during his inaugural visit to EduCity.

He further added that both public and private higher learning institutions must work together and share resources and responsibilities that would greatly benefit the education ecosystem especially in areas of research and development, training and apprenticeship. “Private and public institutions can also play a part in making sure that deserving, bright Malaysians will get an opportunity to receive a quality education by offering scholarships.

No one should be left behind.”

EduCity currently has nine education partners; some are offering best-of-class education by opening their leading faculties at the RM800 million Iskandar Puteri campus ground. The education luminaries at EduCity are Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NuMed), University of Southampton Malaysia Campus (USMC), University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM), Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT), Multimedia University (MMU), Raffles University Iskandar (RUI),

Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM) and Raffles American School (RAS). There are over 4,000 students currently pursuing their primary, secondary and tertiary education at EduCity, and the hub has produced over 3,000 graduates who have entered the local and international workforce, especially in the robust Iskandar Malaysia corridor.

Students across the institutions at EduCity share centralised facilities such as comprehensive sports facilities that include indoor and open stadiums, swimming pools, tennis and multipurpose courts, a student village and recreational lakes within the 300-acre campus ground.

Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Made her First Visit to Johor The DPM made her trip down south to officiate the Santuni Rakyat Programme for Johor state level

D

eputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail had recently officiated the Santuni Rakyat Programme of Johor state level that took place at Angsana Mall Johor Bahru, marking it as her first official appearance in Johor.

The Santuni Rakyat Programme is an initiative under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) that promote the services offered by the Ministry and all its agencies. During the programme, booths from various agencies had lined the exhibition area to provide the public with the required information.

Among the booths on site were Yayasan Pembangunan Keluarga Darul Ta’zim (YPKDT), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP), Unifi, SME Bank and Menara Optometry besides other NGOs such as IKRAM, MAP and JEWEL. Upon her arrival, the Deputy Prime Minister was welcomed by thousands of visitors wishing to meet such an inspirational woman in person. Staying true to the objective of the programme, Dr Wan Azizah was seen interacting with the public in a meet and greet manner as she made her way to the officiating site.

The ceremony started off with a welcoming speech from the Menteri Besar of Johor Dato’ Osman Bin Haji Sapian.

In his speech, Osman expressed his and the state government’s support for programmes like this and explained the plans of the state government in helping the public through the Johor Budget 2019

such as to upgrade the state’s Home Shelter for Kids and Old Folks Activity Centres in hope to provide better shelter for those in need. He also addressed his support for the programme Mama Friendly, a project run by none other than Exco Liow Cai Tung, Johor’s State Chairman of Women and Tourism Development Committee, who was also present at the officiating ceremony.

The DPM addressed her gratitude to the Johor State Government for realising her wish through this Santuni Rakyat Programme. She humbly spoke upon the significance of such an event in reaching out to the people as the focus of the audience was on vulnerable populations like older women, mothers and children. She also briefly touched upon other government initiatives to help these populations through the Budget 2019 such as Insentif I-Suri, Talian Kasih 15999 and Community Based Approach programmes under the Ministry.

Johor International Bike Week (JIBW2019) to Gather 5,000 Bikers

ikers from across the nation and neighbouring countries are expected to join the Johor International Bike Week (JIBW2019) at Majlis Perbandaran Pasir Gudang Stadium from 8th to 10th March 2019. The main objective of this year’s JIBW 2019 is to raise funds for the orphanage and underprivileged people in Pasir Gudang.

Persatuan Bermotosikal Negeri Johor Darul Takzim President Hj Abd Rahim Ahmad who is also the President of JIBW 2019 said, “This road tour aims to promote the Johor International Bike Week (JIBW 2019) and gather all bikers ranging from superbikers to easy riders no matter what the capacity of the motorcycle is”.

“We prefer the traditional way of inviting to attract more bikers to join this year. In addition, we can build a stronger relationship with bikers across Malaysia,” Hj Abd Rahim Ahmad added.

North before continuing to the East Coast of Malaysia with total of four days across the nation.

Dato Seri Hj Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh, who is also the Chairman of JIBW 2019, said they are not only expecting local participants but have invited bikers from Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia and also Thailand to participate again this year.

Marlborough College Malaysia Celebrates the Launch of ‘Barton Farm’

A

pproximately six months ago, visitors to Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM) may have been nonplussed by a lot of fresh digging in an area of the expansive 90 acre site close to its Pre - Preparatory School buildings.

However, at a coffee morning for parents, the College was delighted to invite visiting parents to tour what has been transformed into a highly productive and yet tranquil space, as part of a focus on health and well-being. It saw the important milestone of the farm being given its name – Barton Farm. In true MCM tradition, they have made the connection back to Marlborough in the UK and named it after a very old farm, the land of which, although not used as a farm now, falls within the grounds of the original Marlborough College.

With funding for the initiative provided by the parents’ group ‘Friends of MCM’, and with the support, advice and lots

of seedlings provided by a team of experts from the charity FOLO, the College is growing a range of organic produce including mulberries, bamboo, sugar-cane, pineapples, bananas, aubergines, sweet potato, pigeon pea, Sarawak eggplant, tapioca, chillies, cucumber, okra, string beans and pandan, all of which will be available, in season, for parents to buy. Groups of pupils are working on a composting project and how to make recycled name plates to identify the huge variety of vegetables growing there.

Children across the entire College aged 3 – 18 are involved, whether in growing seeds, building beds, or tending the crops. The most recent addition to the farm has been the arrival of ten chickens, providing animals both to care for and study and a number of eggs are being watched closely to see if they will hatch.

Master of the College Alan Stevens commented, “We are so fortunate here at MCM that we have this beautiful and productive space where the whole MCM community can come and feel connected to nature and experience the sheer joy of, for example, eating a string bean picked from the plant or tasting for the first time an edible blue butterfly pea flower. Thanks to the hard work and support of all those involved, including FoMCM, without whose support, it would not have been possible, we have had a wonderful start to our farming experience and we look forward to it going from strength to strength”. - by The Iskandarian TI

Transforming Used Soap into Hope

W

ith hopes to give more to the community, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Johor Bahru had collaborated with Kechara Soup Kitchen Johor Bahru and Diversey in its latest sustainability programme, Soap for Hope.

Making its debut in Johor and marking the first of its kind to commence with a Hilton hotel in Malaysia, Soap for Hope, is a livelihood programme innovated

by Diversey that aims to help the local, through its soap-recycling concept, with three core objectives - saving lives by enabling hygiene through providing access to soap to communities who needs it but have

no access; providing livelihood to local community through recycling and reprocessing soap; and helping hotels reduce waste by turning used soap into something of value.

I n a soap -rec ycling demonstration conducted at Kechara Soup Kitchen Johor Bahru headquarters, General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru, Daniel Alcaraz expressed his gratitude in being able to contribute to such programmes.

“It is truly an honour to be the first Hilton hotel in Malaysia to champion a campaign that is part of Hilton’s commitment to repurposing used goods for the community’s needs that helps

to give back to the society,” said Daniel.

To date, the Hotel has managed to recycle about 24,000 kg of soaps that amounts to approximately 191,000 new soap bars while over 437,000 kg of soaps has been recycled in Hilton Asia Pacific alone.

Besides that, Daniel also expressed the privilege in working together with Kechara Soup Kitchen in this programme as DoubleTree and Kechara has already established a long relationship where the Hotel has been providing food to Kechara Soup Kitchen for distribution to the poor.

The efforts of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and IMYC in fostering the passion for commerce as well as entrepreneurialism among the youths are certainly commendable.

A recent initiative which has been recurring is the Y2B 3.0 – 50:50 Matching Grant Programme. This initiative entails a maximum of RM150,000 for Mobile Vehicle Business or RM125,000 for Business Shared Facilities, depending on the total business capital quoted by the recipient. Besides, IMYC has also been very involved in the creative scene to inculcate the importance of art and culture for the growth of youths.

Initiative such as Iskandar Malaysia Beyond Boundaries Programme (IMB2P) provides creative practitioners or artists, opportunities and flourish within or outside of Malaysia. A recent interesting event was a 4-day monologue and monodrama theatre performed by the youths.

Meanwhile, Kechara Johor head, Merlin Hoo, said this programme is a nice addition to their already existing sewing programme that involves over 10 housewives from all over the area.

She also commented, the organisation will later invite more homes needing assistance, especially with housewives and single mothers, to participate in the soap-recycling programme in hope to empower the underprivileged by creating another avenue for them to generate income.

“We will either distribute the finished soap to the homeless when we provide them with food or we will get companies to sponsor

them for distribution instead of having them buy the soaps. The money will then be distributed to the participants,” said Merlin.

For now, Kechara has provided food to over 700 individuals a week that comes from the homeless and underprivileged living in People’s Housing Project units.

Cancer Care More Mental Than Physical

he World Cancer Day was celebrated at Paradigm Mall, Johor Bahru with booths from hospitals and cancer support groups sharing about cancer awareness. The event was officiated by Dr Sahruddin bin Jamal, Johor Exco for Health, Environment and Agriculture.

Th i s ye a r ’s Johor theme was “I Am and I Will #FightLikeJalil”, emphasising an individual’s responsibility and commitment to prevent cancer and the steps to take to reduce the impact of cancer emotionally and mentally.

According to the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s World Cancer Day 2019 Factsheet, the most common cancer amongst Malaysians is Breast (17.1%), Colorectal (13.2%), and Lung (10.2%).

Cancer care involves not only the physical health of the cancer patient but also his caregiver’s mental and emotional health. It is vital for everyone to create a holistic healthy environment that motivates healthy habits and support for each other.

At the press conference, Dr Sahruddin said he encourages Malaysians to be more mindful of the information received from others regarding health.

Misconceptions often cause fear preventing one from seeking treatment or going for a check-up.

Vaccinations also help to protect against cancers that are caused by infections such as liver and cervical. For the past five years, officials have been engaging with the anti-vaccination groups to educate them on vaccination.

To date, Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation has contributed RM5.77 million worth of help to over one thousand cancer patients in Johor. The Johor state government has two initiatives to help the B40 groups: Skim Peduli Kesihatan and Skim Perlindungan Nasional mySalam, making healthcare more widely available to all. - by Salamahafifi TI

It’s all about balancing. Both entities have their own expectations and as a General Manager, it is my role to find the balance between maintaining brand standards while making a profit. The owners engage a management company for a reason and that reason is for the branding and standards that the company carries. As the GM, I also need to evaluate if the brand requirements can be done differently or in a more cost effective manner without compromising the standards.

Tell us more about the F&B at Capri

Why I said we have fantastic food here is because it is true! We have a mouthwatering all-day buffet or tempting à la carte options at our signature all-day dining restaurant, Caprilicious. Recognising that some guests may be looking for quick bites between their busy schedules, we also offer grab-and-go meals at our deli, Delite.

We’ve really put in a lot of effort to make our food stay true to their original style and memorable, and have put in many hours to perfect the dining experience at Capri by Fraser. Singapore Festival of Fun Returns to Clarke Quay

The 10-day festival features the Clarke Quay Streetfest (14th to 19th March), Magners International Comedy Festival (15th to 23rd March) and Nickelodeon Fiesta (23rd and 24th March)

he third annual Singapore Festival of Fun is back this March with its signature three pillars of entertainment. From 14th to 24th of March 2019, Clarke Quay will be transformed into a thrilling carnival showcase of street acts, stand-up comedy and engaging family-friendly games.

This 10-day one-of-a-kind extravaganza combines international and local carnival acts of acrobatics, juggling and daredevilry with revered stand-up comedic talent and unique games by Nickelodeon that celebrate Singapore – all under one roof, promising immense fun and laughter.

The 2019 edition of the Singapore Festival of Fun will feature a total of 108 shows making it the biggest Festival of Fun instalment ever to take place at Clarke Quay. Matt Bennett, Director of Magicrock Pte Ltd and organiser of the Singapore Festival of Fun said, “This year’s festival will definitely be more fun. There’s something for everyone and the young ones are guaranteed a great day out.”

ave you ever tried scuba diving? Imagine you are diving into the deep sea and the deeper you go, the greater the pressure you feel on your body. To reduce the pressure, one must swim to the surface. In other words, one must move from one point to another in order to reduce pressure. This analogy is useful to explain pressure and stress.

Pressure and stress are interrelated. While pressure is inevitable, stress is the signpost to tell us that we need to release

the pressure through motion. Our body knows it and it moves all the time. Even when we sit still, the movement takes place at the cellular level. However, whenever we feel stressed, it is a sign that there is excessive pressure waiting to be released.

Here are some tips to deal with various forms of stress: Mental Stress There is a state called ‘mental pressure’ to answer questions about our existence. The pressure happens when our mind is filtering

the data from the consciousness field. Some people think about the future, past or about the mystery of life. Pressure itself is not stress.

What’s turning into stress is when one deeply dwells in the stream of thinking.

This is especially so when one thinks about the future.

Although the mind feels the future is real, our physical body doesn’t recognise the future because it always lives in the moment. When the pressure is not channelled into the present moment, we can get mentally stressed. One of the

physical symptoms of a mental stress is headache.

To resolve mental stress, you can try a few tricks.

Meditate. Meditation is the best way to observe your thinking and pressure without engaging with it. During meditation, you may experience movement between thoughts and stillness. That motion alone promotes the pathway for the pressure to resolve naturally.

I’ll share more tips in the next issue and how to release the other two stresses we experience on a daily basis. TI

They have daily shows and feeding times that the public can partake in or watch with the family.

To add more fun to your trip is the nightly fire percussion performances hosted by an extremely energetic host that will surely ‘WOW’ the crowd. This performance is included in your ticket so you don’t have to worry about paying extra. If fire is your style, then the park has different activities and shows such as the Malayana story or Tiger & Friends, but be sure to check their scheduling list on site for more information.

As for eating options, fret not, as the park has its very own Ipoh Street, which is a lane that serves some delicious snacks, desserts, or light food. You should definitely try the soya bean custard with sugar syrup and their fragrant white coffee.

One of the most unique aspects of the park, other than being surrounded by nature, is that it’s open until 11 pm and there are thermal pools to soothe your tired bodies. After a full day of walking, it was one of the best feelings to just dip my feet in the thermal pools and relax.

ave you ever taken a moment to peer at what lies beneath a jetty before you get on a boat? Pause for a moment to spot the wonders that inhabit jetty pillars and the water or mud around it – even odd bits of rubbish have life on them!

It often looks like nothing, but a closer inspection of jetty pillars will reveal countless animals crowded onto a tightly shared space.

Various species of barnacles, limpets and mussels usually fight for limited pillar real estate.

Barnacles are the ones that look like mini volcanoes. If it is alive, there will be a trapdoor that shuts its cavity when the pillar is exposed to air. Once the tide rises, and if there is no predator, the ‘door’ opens and the barnacle will extend

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) The coronary arteries run along the outside of the heart and supply blood to the heart muscle to allow it to function as a pump. Coronary artery disease (CAD) occurs when there are fatty plaques within the arterial wall, resulting in narrowing and reduced blood flow. It is a chronic ailment that develops over the years. Therefore, early diagnosis is crucial to stop its progression, and to avoid heart attack and heart failure.

Symptoms are present when narrowing is severe, which may include: chest heaviness, tightness or pain (which may radiate to the arms, jaw, neck, and/or back), shortness of breath, weakness and fatigue.

How is coronary artery disease diagnosed?

In addition to a complete medical history and physical examination, diagnostic procedures for coronary artery disease may include any, or a combination of the following:

Stress test (exercise ECG). An ECG test that is given while a patient walks on a treadmill to monitor the heart during exercise to help detect CAD. Echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) to assess various cardiac structures and heart function.

A CT coronary angiogram relies on a powerful X-ray machine to produce images of your heart and its blood vessels.

This test is non-invasive and don’t require recovery time. It only involves an intravenous injection of a contrast dye in the vein.

Cardiac MRI scans assess heart structures, heart muscle condition and function. When performed with stress protocol induced by medication, it can be used to help detect CAD. Cardiac catheterisation is the gold standard test for CAD. With this procedure, X-ray videos are taken after contrast agent is injected into an artery to locate the

f you have been in the market lately, you would have felt the market sentiment has turned much positive as we ushered into the 2019, making it a fast shift. But what can we learn from the fast change?

First, let us have a look around the global stock markets. The most bullish market now is the US, which the three main indexes have rebounded sharply and stood at above moving average 200 (MA200) at the time of writing. Apparently, this is in harmony with its strong economy. In Europe, the DAX, FTSE100, CAC40 indexes have recovered to above moving average 50 (MA50), implying the bulls are returning. Likewise in Asia - China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea and Australia stock market indexes have bottomed up and stood above the MA50, too. Malaysia Composite Index, FBMKLCI, is on its way of returning to psychological level of 1700. The recovery is attributable to a few factors, such as the US Reserve Bank’s pause move on interest rate hike, more optimism on trade talks between US and China, stabilised oil price and good earnings, to name a few.

etermined to challenge my consumerism habits, I sold off half of my wardrobe at a flea market and clothes in my wardrobe then met with colour-coded hangers! That week, I was organised and got a lot of work done.

Months later, when I heard about the Tidying Up Queen Marie Kondo I thought, “Items spark joy? Thanking items? That’s so silly!” and was generally unimpressed, unaware of laundry piling on my work desk.

I thought joy came from within, a thought generated by self, not by items!

Kondo, a Japanese tidying consultant, is hailed as the tidiest person on Earth and even had her own movement – The KonMari Method, a philosophy of tidying up the spaces in your life all in one go. She started her own tidying consulting business at 19 and had been organising since childhood. Today with four books, her best-selling The Life-Changing Method of Tidying Up has been published in more than 30 countries. She even has her own 8-episode show on Netflix! When I learned this, I was intrigued.

Except that I really wasn’t doing anything about it yet. Who has time? I was in bed with my laptop, eager to finish the queuing articles I had to write and very timely, my father walked into the room and asked, “How are you going to think clearly if you don’t have a cleared room?” I looked around absolutely shocked; workload had me tunnel-vision in my laptop, blinded by its messy periphery. He’s right! A wake-up call; I got up and followed The KonMari Method to get my life back in order. It became a life changer for my writer’s block.

According to Marie Kondo, there are six

rules to tidying up: 1. Commit yourself to tidying up – don’t leave piles around halfway.

2. Imagine your ideal lifestyle – nobody imagines their dream house with piles of laundry or a car full of canned drinks and a nice bag full of receipts!

3. Finish discarding first – throw away what you know you don’t need or want first, the rest can come later.

4. Tidy by category not by location we’re tempted to clean one drawer at a time, but that wouldn’t be lifechanging.

5. Follow the right order of clothes, books, papers, miscellaneous, mementos.

6. Ask yourself if it sparks joy.

Immediately I went to the most-worn item on myself: my bag. I cleared receipts, driedup wet tissues – none of them sparked joy.

Marie Kondo’s method of tidying up is more emotional than logical. Before discarding an item, thank them for their purpose and let them go with a grateful heart. Thank you receipts for proof I was financially fine, and my dried-up wet tissues for always being on standby.

After going through many categories, strange enough, I found my items talking to me. Memories and reminisces of how I obtained them danced by, each a happy memory.

Carefully I placed the backpack and finished off cleaning before I took a nap.

Woke up with a cleared room, clearer mind, giving space for ideas to zoom in and linger around. I know what to write now!

EcoWorld is embracing our technologicallyliterate society by collaborating with DunQian Intelligent Hotel Management to set up the first intelligent accommodation service in Malaysia.

Senai International Airport Records Solid Passengers Growth In 2018

enai International Airport has set another new record in 2018, handling 3.52 million passengers, a 13% increase from the number of passengers recorded in 2017.

The growth was mainly driven by domestic passengers with an increase of 9% or 234,650 passengers, from 2.68 million in 2017 to 2.91 million in 2018 while international passenger traffic rose by 37% or 163,127 from 0.44 million in 2017 to

0.60 million in 2018. Commercial aircraft movements recorded at 8% higher with a total of 32,574 landings and takeoffs.

Balloting for 190 units of KPRJ’s Jauhar Prihatin Homes

he latest edition of Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ), a state owned GLC, Jauhar Prihatin Rent-toOwn (RTO) homes was launched with an overwhelming response at Seri Baiduri (RTO 05), Bandar Tiram, Ulu Tiram by Menteri Besar Johor Dato Osman bin Sapian.

650 applications were received for the 190 units being offered of which, 6 units were allocated particularly for those with special needs (OKU).

Jauhar Prihatin is a RTO property policy by KPRJ to help facilitate Bangsa Johor to own their home. 50% of the rental collected will be converted as the down payment over tenure of 5 years.

“The project is carried out to assist the B40 and M40 groups to possess their own home as securing bank facilities can be challenging,” said Osman in his welcoming address.

Also present was the Exco for Johor Housing and Rural Development Sr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) Mayor Amran A. Rahman and KPRJ CEO Mohd Noorazam bin Dato’ Haji Osman.
