Varsit Football The Football team finished it's season with a 5-4 record. The lour losses came to playoff qualifying teams. During the year the team set 3 modern school records. The team rushing record of 2,590 yards, scoring record of 30 points per game. Adrell Bullock set the single season rushing record of

yards. This placed him third in the state

The Varsity Volleyball team started their season strong, with at least half the team on the top ten conference slats sheet at one point during the season. I enjoyed working with the girls, helping them play as a team and learning from each others' mistakes. They are a great group. Good luck to all the seniors next year: we will miss you. Our 2 players that were voted Honerable Mention all conference were our captains Meghan Tomberlin and Marjorie Warren. They were enthusiastic leaders who truly cared about the team Meghan our setter, had 7 5 assists, 25 ace serves,and 12 spike kills. Marjorie had 30 ace serves, 8 block kills, 29 digs, and 58 spike kills.

guys become a team. Our season came with its fair share of struggles but they became opportunit ies for learning. After an 0-2 start, we won tiYee of our next four games. When our season was well underway, we began

struggling w ith our offensive execution. This caused us to lose a few games in which we otherwise dominated

the

opponents. The team continued to wcxk well together though and pressed on. As we entered the lost week of

the

season, we

had

to win our last three games to end

our season w ith a .500 record. W ith tremendous poise, our team pulled tiYough and oot only won, but dominated our lost three opponents. Hoping that this would spark that we

confidence, we traveled to Columbus determined to prevail and move on in

The Varsity Girls Tennis Team ended their Season with a 5-4 record, brirgirg home four consolation championships at the Midwest Classic Conference, and advoncirg their #I doubles, Maeve Fischer and Emily Rhoticon to the sectiorals at Kohler. The team improved and built more depth with the aid of the five experienced seniors who will graduate this year. Maeve Fischer, #] doubles; Natalia Rocha, # 1 sirgles; Dorey Tropp, # 2 sirgles; Danielle Asso, #3 sirgles; and Kelly Pearce, # 4 sirgles hove performed well and demonstrated great tennis over the post 3-4 years. ockey The 2002 Field Hockey Season ended with a season record of 2 wins, 7 losses and I tie. The Team was led by captains Daoo Leystro and Trioo Soladin. Both ore fo....- year players whose skills and leadership helped in the development of our inexperienced squad. Despite the win/loss record, this was o fm season. The team come a long way improving their skills and developing their teamwork. We did not hove a Iorge team, so everyone hod lots

playing time. We also hod some

injuries that called upon the players to fill in at new positions. Among the season highlights were Dooo Leystro's 3 gCXJI "hot trick" in the Arrowhead game. Erin Edson also claimed scoring honors for her 3 goals this season. We hod some strong players in the midfield by Brittany Jordt and on defense by Jessiko Arriaga ond gCXJiie Mojo Stevonovich. Alex ran a 5K race in 19:20 in his first race of tf.e season ard lowered his lime in each of Ire rext tfree races. Four days later, at Ire Midwest Classic Conference meet. sf.e took another minute of tf.e record, establishing a rew scf-ool record of 16:37. Natalia's effort was good enough to earn her third place in Ire race and earn All-Conference honors, sf.e was also Ire teams Most Valuable Competitor. TI-e conference meet was nat just a day for irdividual achieverrent. as Ire entire girls team put forth an aulstarding effort. Our team struggled a bit this year, but we continued to practice and play strong throughout the season. With four new starters being placed in the line-up, the chemistry developed late in the season. However, the boys attempt to remain focus and push for success on the court was pleasing. Its been a fun season. The girls basketball yeam had a challenging season. The team finished with a 6-14 record wit a very tough scgedule which included live games against teams rated in the state top 10, highlighted by a conference contest against then #

1 Racine Prairie. The team was small in numbers

and hampered by injuries, but the girls hustled and gave their best to be competitive with opponents all year long Emily Rhatican "04 and Margaret Rhatican "06 were the leading scorers, and Marjorie Warren "03 and Abbi Stuaan '03 were the squad's top rebounders. Amanda Eisenreich '03 was the team leader in steals. Varsity Skiing This year's season had plenty of cold weather early in the season allowing the ski hills time to make snow. As a result of this, we were able to get out skiing in early December. During the last week of the Christm as break the team traveld to Bru le Mountain for two intense days of Giant Slalom and Slalom practice. Following this ski camp, we returned to Wayland where we started ou t regular season. In conference meets, both teams struggled as we lacked the depth to compete with some of the stronger teams in the conference. We were fortunate enough to have one of the better skiers in the confernce. jeff Kuehling, our number one racer finished a successful season and earned second tem all conference honors at the end of the year. As coaches, we were very pleased with the skiers that were on the team. It was one of the greatest group of young men and women that we have ever worked with in our many years of coaching. We have a number of you ng skiers who have progressed and will develop into excellent racers as they gai n more and more experience. We are looking forward to working with them next season. Varsity Swimming The Swim team had a very successful season, both in individual personal bests and overall team involvement in the meets. For the first time in a number of years we fielded all events at all the dual meeets and had upwards of a dozen participants at the invitationals. We also had two very competitive relay teams. We will miss our seniors very much but look farward and the the further development of some of the younger swimmers- they have a lot of good goals to work towards. To tell everyone the truth, I'm having o hard time starting aut this page. For so many years, I had it all planned out, how I'm going to begin and exactly what I'm going to say. Now that the time has come, and I'm a super lour-year senior, it's nat oil coming in clear anymore. Back in the day, lour years ago when I first planted my feet on the Wayland campus I never knew haw much I was going to learn from this place. Now, I'm not even talking about all the books that had to be read. and all the math problems !although they too helped in this whole learning business) but the people. So many have had such a great impact on me within my time ot Wayland that I will never be able to forget a single moment or a single person. The lessons I learned from all of you will be put to great use. Being at Wayland from the beginning has made my experience that much better, and I feel prepared to go anywhere with the knowledge I have acquired here. I couldn't have had a better high school experience, thank you to such an awesome student body and thank you to each and every faculty member lor being here at all times. All the memories and great experiences I had while here will always remain in my heart. I would truly like to thank my parents lor seeing the value of Wayland and making it possible far me to have attended here. Toto and Mama, thank you lor always making me want to reach the sky. I would also like to thank Mr. Steuer and Mr. Horak lor being extremely kind and helping in financing my education, I will never forget your gilt. Thank you.
