Dedication held for Mt. Holly Police Dept. Memorial Plaza By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info

An official dedication ceremony for the spectacular Mt. Holly Police Dept. Memorial Plaza took place last Saturday. The event was attended by a wide variety of law enforcement and municipal officials as well as Mt. Holly citizens. The plaza is built on a knoll at the Municipal Complex and honors not only MHPD officer Tyler Herndon, who lost his life in the line of duty while responding to a larceny call on December 11, 2020, but other law enforcement officers as well. The location is exactly where Herndon’s patrol car was parked for a time after his death and covered with flowers and tributes. Mt. Holly police chief Don

Work on new Belmont Parks and Recreation facility gets underway By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info

The dream of a new Parks and Rec. facility for Belmont finally took steps towards becoming a reality last week when, after years of planning and preparation, workers began construction of the $13.5 million project. A generous grant from the state will chip in $1.5 million. Belmont Parks and Rec. director Zip Stowe was full of glee and he watched men erecting a temporary fence on the grassy slope in front of the CityWorks building on E. Catawba where the new center will be constructed. A large bulldozer is on the site and ready for action.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Stowe said. “A lot of people are happy to see the work begin.” Belmont is the only town in our area without its own building where things like basketball games can be held. What currently serves the city as a parks and rec. place is the decades old J. Paul Ford Center on Woodrow Ave., but the city’s needs have far outgrown that one medium sized building. The new building will be two stories high and have 45,000 sq. ft. of space. Belmont’s Minnie Grier hits 100 and is still going strong By Alan Hodge alan@cfmedia.info

“The Lord, He is my shepherd.” According to Belmont’s Minnie Grier, who hit the century mark on Nov. 30, that verse from the Bible has been her guiding light through a life filled with ups and down, happiness and hard work, fun and family. According to Grier, she was born in 1921 on a farm near Lincolnton to Eugenia and Thurman Smith. She had two brothers and two sisters. “We grew some cotton,” Grier said. “It was hard work. They wouldn’t let me hoe because they said I dug the

plants up. I had to carry a big bag around, pick, and put the cotton in it. At the end of the day I wouldn’t have 50 pounds. I didn’t like that cotton.” The family moved to Belmont and Grier attended Reid High. “It was a great school,” she said. Next, Grier went to work in local textile mills. “I worked at Dixie Yarns and Pharr Yarns,” she said. “It was a lot better than picking cotton. That’s for the birds!” While she was a mill employee, Grier played on a girl’s softball team. It was all African-American players. See GRIER, Page 4

Two of them are Christmas lights and coffee. These go together (to me) like ham and eggs. Let me explain. The house is currently quiet..for I’ve been sitting at my kitchen table working on Christmas cards. I think they’ll be done by this weekend. I’m also staring at an iced mocha frappe….it warms my soul..(even with ice). The Christmas music is playing ever so softly in the background. The Christmas lights outside my window make me smile. Similarly (don’t write me a letter), one could say that Christmas was like the USCG Auxiliary coming to do for that boater what they could not do for themselves. They needed a rescuer. Not a paddle to row their boat to shore. They needed someone outside themselves to save them. The operator of the boat could have said, ‘Yes, our motor isn’t working. We’ll just hope that the wind

Similar to rescuing the boat from being stranded on the water, at Christmas, we remember that God gets involved in the messiness of our life and does for us what we cannot do for ourselves – He rescues us. The difference is that His efforts for us was at the cost of His very life. I’ll be back in two weeks. Until then, live well my friend.

Coffee and Christmas lights

By Tony Marciano When I signed up to be a volunteer in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, I thought I would be getting on a patrol boat while the skipper (sounds like the theme from Gilligan’s Island) had us flying over the lake. We would come up to boats in distress and rescue them. Was I ever wrong. After I signed up, I was told I had to take basic training courses. After that, I was put in boat crew training for almost four months. I still hadn’t seen a boat. However, this past summer I actually got on a boat. I was a boat crew trainee. It was a hands-on learning process of the rigors of being in the USCG Auxiliary. Book learning was one thing. Actual hands-on work was much more difficult. One night we were wrapping up a training. As our vessel was heading to the dock, we noticed a ski boat. Normally, we would have assumed they were trading places – skier for spotter. No one was getting into skis. They had the engine cover open. One person was hovering over the motor. That’s never a good sign. We came by and asked if they needed help. They replied that their motor was overheating because the impeller that brings water into the motor was broken. We offered to tow them to safety. Fortunately, the coxswain (skipper) was a very experienced USCG Auxiliarist. He had taken a lot of courses and knew what he was doing. From our pontoon boat he tossed them ropes and had them attach it to the bow of their boat. We secured it to our boat. This is where the danger comes in. If it comes loose from our boat, the rope can hurt those in the tow boat. Conversely, if the rope comes loose from the tow boat, it will fly back and injure the auxiliarists. We positioned one person to shout when the rope was taut vs. when it was slack. Our coxswain had to get our boat moving and then get the tow boat moving without pulling the cleat out of either boat where the rope was secured. I could tell this was going to be a late-night patrol. Since it was dark, we had to watch for other boats who might cut across the tow rope. We brought it safely to the boat launch where his truck and trailer were located. He backed up the truck and slid the trailer under the boat. Once secured, the grateful driver left as if nothing bad had happened. What if we didn’t come along? Would they have

You can’t go wrong with stuffed animals- except one whose body contained an LED TV set for $200. Then we have Barbie of the exaggerated body and bleached blonde hair. She and her accoutrements occupied several pages of the catalog. Good ol’ Barbie has been around for decades, but I sometimes think her artificial standards make little girls who don’t match up to them feel left out. On a brighter note, the catalog had a section devoted to mini-musical instruments for kids. One ad had a little chap strumming a hounddog shaped electric guitar. Another featured a tot tinkling the ivories on a cat-shaped keyboard. Yet another pictured a boy in his Pjs beating the daylights out of a drum. Christmas morning jam session I reckon. But lo, and behold! Turning the catalog pages I found a set of Lincoln Logs! It was hard to tell from the photo is they were made of plastic or the wood ones that we gnawed like beavers back in the day, but there they were and only $17.50 for the kit. Bouyed by that discovery, I carefully scanned the catalog some more and found an Erector set much larger and more magnificent than any I recalled. OK, so it was $49.99 but inflation, like rust, never sleeps. Maybe I should not have “picked on” the marketers and toy catalog makers so hard for pushing their wares at the kids. But they know that the children will quickly begin begging their parents for every item in its 50+ pages and with so many budgets tight again this year, I think it’s kind of unfair to put the adults under such pressure. Maybe we need to back up and punt on Christmas and instead of indulging in overpriced “stuff’ that will be played with for a couple of weeks or maybe even a month then left languishing, turn some of that attention and cash flow to those around us for whom a simple baby doll or toy truck would be a blessing. I think that act of sharing would be a good Yuletide lesson for kids that will last them a lot longer than a $200 set of headphones.

I got a catalog the other day full of Christmas toys for kids which seemed odd because I don’t have any- kids that is. The stuff in it was a far cry from the amusements we had when I was a youth. That included things like Lincoln Logs. Erector sets, EZ Bake Ovens, and the king of them all, slot car tracks. Side items at Christmas then included a model airplane or two, a gift box with cheese, weenies, and crackers, and James Bond 007 cologne that smelled like concentrated polecat spray. Of course these goodies were a big step up from what my mom and her Great Depression generation might get at Christmas which was a sock with some nuts and an orange, and if they were real lucky a stick or two of candy. Fast forward to Christmas 2021 and what today’s youth is told by marketing gurus they cannot live without and what parents are pressured to buy or else feel like failures. One of the first things that caught my eye in the catalog was a tousle headed little girl about five years old wearing a pair of stereo headphones and groovin’ up a storm. Nothing wrong with that–except the price, which was just shy of $200. On the next page was a lil’ lad with his phalanges firmly gripping a Playstation setup. Oh, how his eyes were filled with glee. Oh, how the parental pocketbook will howl at the $399.95 price tag. The makers and marketers of handheld devices are hitting the kiddie market hard this Christmas and the catalog reflected this. On one page we see a little girl sporting hornrimmed eyeglasses for a studious look as her thumbs are poised on the keyboard of her smart phone. Someone’s wallet will be smarting too when they fork out the advertised price of $400. And what little boy can resist the urge to have a helmet-mounted camera on their head as they pedal their bike along. That was in the catalog as well with a tab of $199.95. There are some cheaper toys in the catalog I perused. One was a battery-powered miniature motorcycle that was listed at $185.00. Another was a doll dream house that’s only $159.95. Yet another was a doll-sized sports car that was a paltry $179.95. In addition, there was an electric 4-wheeler for ages “3 and up” for$119.95. Another aspect of the “toy” catalog that struck me was the number of weapons, especially guns, being offered. I wondered what message this sends to kids. Some of the more aggressive ones included a Zombie Strike Hammershot pistol, a Mega Centurion rifle, and a

During the Christmas season, we seem to write our names a lot. Many people send Christmas cards to friends and loved ones. People often attach their names to gifts and greetings all season long. A name is an important thing. A person’s name often reflects their legacy, and who they are. We are proud of our names, and the legacies they reflect. Paul in Philippians 2:9 said, “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name” (ESV). Paul is speaking of that precious baby born in a stable that first Christmas long ago. That child has many names, each reflecting who He is, and what He has done for you and me. Throughout the Christmas story, and the prophets who proclaimed the coming Messiah, we see many names given for this child. Let’s take a look at a few of these names. In Isaiah 9:6-7, the prophet Isaiah said that a child would be born, and His name would be “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (ESV). God is indeed a wonderful counselor to us, walking with us, and guiding our path. He is mighty, and everlasting. In our temporal world, it is so comforting know-

ing we have a God who is more powerful than the evil of this world, and that He is eternal. God has no beginning, and He will have no end. We have little peace in this world, yet we can have Rev. Trent Rankin peace in our hearts through the Prince of Peace. Matthew 1:22-23 reminds us that this child would be called Immanuel. This name reminds us that God is with us. In our sinful nature, we can never reach God. Nothing we can do will ever atone for our sins. Through our works, we can never achieve a perfect relationship with God. We don’t have to worry, God came to us! That first Christmas, God came to earth to reconcile us to Himself. We also find in Matthew 1:21 another name, Jesus. The angel told Joseph to name the child Jesus, because He came to save His people from their sins. The name of Jesus means deliverer, a rescuer. That is exactly who Jesus is! He came to earth to save us through His death and resurrection, forgiving us of our sins. Through Him, we are saved. Jesus, the name above every name. I hope this Christmas as you write your name, that the name of Jesus is written upon your heart. He came that first Christmas for you!

Hebrews 12:2 Keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. Life is filled with questions. They come in all shapes and sizes, covering a multitude of topics. But they are all very real, and the answers don’t always come in nice, neat packages. Sometimes that’s really hard for us to handle. It’s in our nature to solve problems and provide answers. We may pride ourselves on fixing things. And when we can’t answer the questions we face, it bothers us. The writer of Hebrews understood that. When he talked about laying aside hindrances and avoiding sins, he was really talking about answering the most difficult questions we face, questions that don’t seem to have an answer. If we want to find the answers to those

questions we can’t look inside ourselves. We have to look to Jesus He is the answer to every question. I’ve learned that Jesus is the answer in my Rev. Mark Costner own life. When we feel the need to say that word that we shouldn’t say, when we want to respond with sarcasm and anger instead of compassion and patience, when we had rather cheat than play fair, when we prefer to live a lie than protect our Integrity. Regardless of the question our strength is never enough. Looking to Jesus and relying on him is always the right answer He is both the beginning and the end of our faith. We need Him to put all the pieces of the puzzle in place. When we look to him we know we are moving in the right direction. We get the answers we need because He is the answer.

GRIER From Page 1 She was the catcher. “We were called the Belmont Blues,” she said. “We played other mill teams from Bessemer City, Lowell, and Gastonia. It was a lot of fun.” Grier got married to her first husband, Howard Wilson, in 1950. He passed away and in the 1960s she married WWII veteran Charlie Grier who died in 1999. Altogether she had six girls and twin boys one of whom died. Moving along, Grier currently has nine grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildrenand loves all of them deeply. As you might imagine, Grier has seen some changes in technology during her life. “When I saw my first airplane I didn’t know what to think,” she said. “I never learned to drive a car. I left the driving to other folks.” When television entered her life in the 1950s it was a hit with Grier.

“I loved to watch ‘I Love Lucy’ and Fred Kirby,” she said. One thing has been central to Grier’s life and that’s her church, Mt. Moriah Baptist. “Church teaches you how to be strong in the Lord,” she said “It also teaches you how to raise your children.” The fact that Grier has applied those church principals to her life has not gone unrecognized. On the occasion of her birthday, she received congratulatory proclamations from the City of Belmont, N.C. Governor Roy Cooper, and President Joe Biden. These days, Grier is full of life and has a razor sharp wit. She enjoys time with her family and watching her wide screen TV. As far as tips for longevity, her philosophy is simple yet eloquent. “Trust in the Lord, be a good shepherd, and take your pills!”

Earlier this year, the City of Mt. Holly formed a committee to explore ways to create the plaza. The committee was appointed by Mayor Bryan Hough. It included local officials and citizens including Bobby Black, Miles Braswell, Melanie Black, Phyllis Harris, Jeff Meadows, Randi Moore, Paige Sigmon, Cindy Suddreth-Williams, David Sisk, Brian Reagan, and Don Roper. The committee met with design and engineering specialists David Malcolm and Nick Lowe with the Charlotte-based design firm McAdams and a concept for the project was developed. The concept was presented to the city council on March 8 and approved. Ground was broken on the project in late August. The Memorial Plaza is stunning in its appearance. In addition to the Memorial Plaza, Officer Herndon has been remembered in other ways. A five mile stretch of Hwy. 273 between I-85 and the Freightliner factory has been designated as the Officer Tyler H. Herndon Memorial Highway. The route is one that Herndon often patrolled. A Harley Davidson police motorcycle was given to the department by the Call of Duty Riders. The bike bears Herndon’s name. On Oct. 22, a delegation of MHPD officers attended the National Police Memorial Service event in Washington, D.C. where Herndon’s name was unveiled on the wall there. Herndon’s family also attended. The second floor will also feature a balcony with sweeping views of the Catawba River and Kevin Loftin Riverfront Park. Just a few of the activities the new center can host includes pickle ball, gymnastics, cheerleading, karate, movies, ping pong, dance, badminton, classes of various types and many, many more. Folks will be able to rent space in the building for meetings, weddings, birthday parties, and that sort of thing.

Stowe sees the new center not only as a boon to the local activities scene, but as an economic driver as well. “The center will be a place where we can hold events such as basketball tournaments and invite as many as fifty teams,” he said. ‘This will bring people to Belmont who will shop, stay in local hotels, and eat in local restaurants. It will be a big boost economically.” Stowe estimates it will take about 14 months to get the building up and running. Meanwhile, across Catawba St. at Kevin Loftin Riverfront Park, the playground area is still closed for replacement of the wooden climbing structures. “The new equipment will be arriving around the first of February,” said Stowe. “It should be done by March.”

Some of the current playground equipment that’s made of plastic and metal will be saved and moved to another park. “The rock wall and boardwalk will also be reused,” Stowe said. In other Belmont Parks and Rec. updates, work on the long awaited skate park is also slated to begin in January. A new addition to the original plan will be a dedicated area for beginners. “We also got a grant for the beginner’s area,” said Stowe. The park will be located on a strip of land beside CityWorks. As for the dog park plan, well, that’s still on hold. “We are still trying to find a suitable location,” said Stowe.

Working together Hill and McKinney make East Gaston football history By John Wilson John.bannernews@gmail.com

East Gaston Warriors senior running backs Justin Hill and Markel McKinney recently did something that is rare in football. Both backs eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark all in the same season. Hill and McKinney’s performance helped kick start a Warriors football program that had struggled for years. This year East Gaston finished the season 8-5 and went as far as the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletics Association Football Playoffs. McKinney and Hill will go down in the East Gaston record books as the best running duo the school has ever seen. However, if not for chance, these two runners may never have met, much less had the opportunity to team up and help change the destiny of Warrior football. Justin Hill and Markel McKinney have played football for most of their lives. Justin started at the age of five playing for the Stanley Mighty Mites Pop Warner program where he played quarterback and running back. Football is a game dominated by a sense of direction. Plays develop going to the left, to the right and up the middle. You hand off and pass to the left or the right. In football direction is everything. But for five year old Justin Hill there was one small problem. Justin didn’t quite understand his right from his left. “I didn’t know my right from my left,” Hill laughed. “The coaches had to write it down on my arm.” When you’re five that kind of stuff happens. Of course it didn’t take long for Justin to figure it out and he took to football rather quickly. After going through Pop Warner Justin went on to play running back at Stanley Middle School. When it was time to go to high school he went to East Gaston and was a member of the varsity squad by the time he was a sophomore. Like Justin, Markel McKinney also started football at a young age. But before he ever put pads on he was getting some one on one coaching from his grandfather Wesley Hunter. Mr. Hunter taught his grandson some of the basics. Things that Markel still remembers to this day. “My grandfather taught me the two, four, and six holes on the right side,” Markel explained of the running lanes used by running backs. When Markel finally took to the field he signed up with the Mount Holly Hawks Pop Warner program where he

played running back, quarterback, safety and linebacker. After Pop Warner Markel went to Mount Holly Middle School where he played running back and safety. Instead of going to a public high school Markel chose to play at Mountain Island Charter. Markel played for the Raptors in his freshman and sophomore seasons. Up to this point both players had bright futures, and it’s fair to say that their paths would probably have never crossed if it hadn’t been for COVID-19. During 2020 much of the nation was in a lockdown as athletes across the country saw their programs shut down as the nation battled the virus. It was in the midst of COVID during the summer of 2020 that Markel and Justin happened to meet each while working out. As the two started to talk they found that they had a lot in common. Both shared common goals. Both players wanted to be a part of something special. The more they talked, the more they came to realize that the key to success may just lie with working together. “I ran into Justin while working out,” Markel explained. “After talking to him I decided I wanted to come back to public schools because I liked what he was saying.” What Justin had been saying was that he hoped Markel would be a part of rebuilding the East Gaston Warriors football program. Justin believed that under new coach JT Postell the Warriors had potential and were on the cusp of turning the program around. He thought Markel could be a part of that. The more Justin and Markel talked the more they believed that anything was possible. “We wanted to be the change,” Justin said. “We wanted to turn the bus around.” In 2020 Markel and Justin suited up on the same team and played together for the first time. While the team made progress in 2020 there was still a lot that needed to be done. In 2021 things really started to come together for not only Markel and Justin, but for the Warriors football program in general. Coach Postell knew that he had a lot of talent in his backfield. Justin and Markel both brought a unique skill set to the table. Hill is a hard-nosed NorthSouth runner that kept the chains moving. For his part, McKinney is a versatile slot back who plays well in space and does a great job catching passes out of the backfield. Postell tweaked a few

things and figured out how to get the most out of each back. Once everything was set the Warriors unleased Justin and Markel and the East Gaston offense took off. In 2021 Hill and McKinney ran wild. They gave EG a potent one-two punch that proved to be hard to stop. Working as a team the two backs enjoyed incredible success. Justin broke the season single rushing record for East Gaston by running for 2023 yards while McKinney ran for 1,438 yards and also had 440 yards of receiving offense. In less than two years Hill and McKinney developed a special bond that went beyond football. The two seniors are close. They look at each other as brothers. They cheer each other on. Between them there is no jealousy, only respect. “Justin is a hard-nosed football player,” Markel said of his friend and teammate. “He’s blood, sweat, and tears. He could be on his last leg and he would still play.” For his part Justin thinks a lot of his Markel’s skills. “Kel is a pure athlete,” Justin said of Markel. “He’s a hard runner in between the tackles. He can catch passes out of the backfield. When

it’s time to make a big play he steps up.” As the two players talk about the 2021 season they occasionally pick on each other like brothers will do. Yet in between the occasional banter one can’t help but see how important it was for these young men to have had a chance to work with each other and to have succeeded together. It was in playing together that Hill and McKinney were able to achieve their goals. “We planned this,” Justin said of the two runners going over 1,000 yards. “We talked about doing this our junior year. We wanted to stand out.” “It’s a blessing to have one running back go over 1000 yards,” Markel added. “But it’s a bigger blessing to have two.” Coach Postell couldn’t be prouder of what these two seniors were able to add to the East Gaston football program. “Both had tremendous success for us,” Postell said. “They were the catalyst behind our offensive success. Both are exceptional young men who always pulled for each other and did everything they could for the team to be successful.” With their place in the

Both runners have garnered interest from various college programs. “I’d like to go to a fouryear university,” Justin said “I’d like to keep playing ball. I also want to focus on studying business.” Markel also has plans for the future that include football, school and opening his own business. “I want to continue play-

ing football at the next level,” Markel went on to say. “I’d like to go to school for music and business and I hope to open my own retail store in the future.” Based on what these two young men have done it’s fair to say that the sky is the limit and anything is possible. As time goes on Justin and Markel can look back on their time at East Gaston with pride. If by chance they ever wonder if they made a difference they need to know but one thing; they turned the bus around.

Early College student takes on statewide leadership role as SGA president Gaston Early College High School student Nathan Vasquez is representing all community college students in the state as president of the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA). Vasquez, who has served as a member of the Gaston College Student Government Association (SGA), attended his first state board meeting in October. “I was thrilled to hear I had been appointed to serve as president,” said Vasquez, who initially interviewed to represent the 17 community colleges in the western division. He now will represent all 58 community colleges statewide. Vasquez says it was his

teachers at H.H. Beam Elementary and Southwest Middle School who pushed him to set goals and do well in school. “During my eighth grade year, my teachers and counselors urged me to apply to Highland School of Technology and Gaston Early College,” said Vasquez, who thought he would attend Forestview High School with his friends. “They told me that I would have an advantage either choosing a pathway at Highland or obtaining a twoyear degree at the Early College.” Due to the lottery selection, Vasquez was put on the waitlist at both schools, but initially was accepted at the Gaston Early College two weeks prior to the start of

school. Since his time at the Early College, he has become a role model for his peers. As a sophomore, principal Josh Allen appointed him to serve on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. As a junior, he was a member of the Gaston College SGA, and last year, he was recognized as his school’s “Do The Right Thing” award recipient. “As president of the school’s Beta Club, I recognized that some families were experiencing difficulty buying food during the pandemic,” explained Vasquez. “To help provide assistance to the families, I reached out to Crisis Assistance Ministries and now our Beta Club helps provide food for families in need every Tuesday

Where is our hope? As our Holy Bible points out, our hope is in Jesus Christ alone. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV) Folks, we first must plug ourselves into God and Jesus Christ or our spirit will never be infused with God’s Holy Spirit and we will not function well. We’ll flounder in our soul, like guiding a lumbering boat with no engine and one broken oar, near dangerous obstacles; never having any advance warning or guidance. How does God talk to us; guide us and warn us? He draws our attention many ways but He frequently begins by grounding us in biblical truths and then shields our minds by connecting truth to our experiences thus protecting us from harmful outside influences. Here, the transducer ground is a trustworthy electrical reference point; a metaphor for regularly meditating on God’s truthful reference point which then shields us from sinful outside influences. By applying ourselves to study and prayer daily, we honor the Lord. Are we firmly plugged into Jesus and are we viewing our world with grounded and shielded protection from His Word; if we are, God will use us and we’ll be safe in His arms.

“So many of our minority students start the process of applying for college through the North Carolina Residency Determination Service, but never complete the application,” said Vasquez. “We’re looking at determining what barriers exist and exploring ways to reduce those impacts.” Currently a real estate broker, Vasquez will graduate in May with a high school diploma and an Associate of Science degree from Gaston College. He remains undecided about what four-year college he will attend next fall, but his long-term goal is to get a four-year degree, go to law school, and become a real estate attorney.

By Dennis Siracusa I have a faulty bass fishing depth finder. The power cord is missing and the transducer cord is frayed. Of my three depth/fish finder instruments, this one is important because it connects to my trolling motor to help me navigate shallower more precarious water. When it’s turned on it becomes a valuable tool instead of a useless decoration. The transducer and cord part is vital because once the power is on the grounded shielded transducer sends accurate information, in a fraction of a second, to the HEAD unit relaying size and depth information to ME. Can you see an emerging spiritual lesson? Imagine “ME” from our fishing example, is our spirit, alive in Christ, and the “HEAD” is our soul. Our soul, “mind, will, and emotions,” is affected by myriad impulses we receive from everywhere all impacting our emotions and choices; political, social, economic, true or false. And God gave us His spirit to guide our soul with direction and information; He inspires creativity and exposes everything; truth and lies, what’s necessary or not, and directionally what door to choose or not. And here is an important corollary to our fish finder. To access to our wonderful God asset, we must be plugged into His Spirit and our receptors have to BE and STAY properly grounded and shielded. The holy bible and all of creation definitively declares that God exists. It’s indisputable and at judgement that point will merit no debate. Also, mysteriously, God has chosen a multi millennial timeline to continually
