Kings Mountain, NC –
Pioneer Motor Bearing Company is proud to announce that it has been awarded the North Carolina Governor’s Export Award – Rural Category, celebrating its achievements in international trade. Presented by Governor Josh Stein at the Executive Mansion in Raleigh, NC, on March 19, 2025, this award highlights Pioneer’s excellence in exporting.
Pioneer earned this distinction through its strategic expansion into the Japanese power generation aftermarket. Partnering with Yamato Metal Co., Ltd. (Chiba, Japan), the companies identified a growing demand for bearing repair services in Japan’s power sector. By combining Yamato’s local presence with Pioneer’s technical expertise, the com-
pany successfully provided bearing repairs, analysis, and upgrades to major electric power producers, including Japan’s largest utility and one of the world’s largest gas turbine power plants.
President David Saldo and Adrian Bardet, VP of
Sales and Marketing, accepted the award on behalf of the company. Saldo, with over 30 years at Pioneer, oversees all aspects of operations, while Bardet played a key role in establishing and maintaining the company’s presence in
“We are thrilled with the work e doing in the Japanese market,” said David Saldo. “Our end users now have access to aftermarket services and are no longer beholden to OEM pricing and delivery times— just as our American customers have for over a century.”
Adrian Bardet added, “Being selected for the Governor’s Export Award is an incredible honor. We identified this need nearly a
decade ago, and given Japan’s conservative business culture, success required significant investment. Seeing our long-term vision materialize is truly rewarding—and we’re just getting started.”
A globally recognized center of excellence for fluid
film bearings, Pioneer Motor Bearing Company continues to enhance efficiency and performance in critical machinery worldwide. The company’s success in Japan underscores its commitment to innovation, global partnerships, and exceptional service in a specialized market.
Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain features local artist Jeffrey J. Bowers with a one-person show "Jeffrey J Bowers – Wanderings in Acrylic". All the paintings shown in this exhibit are painted "en plein air" or "in the open air" on location. Bowers considers himself an artist in the Modern Impressionist style. Working in acrylics, he paints landscapes, cityscapes, still life, pets, buildings, and vehicles in and around the Piedmont area of western North Carolina. There are over 40 paintings in this exhibit, with the majority featuring landscapes and city scenes in Gastonia, Dallas and Kings Mountain. The public is invited to meet Mr. Bowers at a public reception on Saturday April 5, from 6-8 pm. The show is on view now through May 31, 2025. Artwork in the exhibit is available for sale.
To keep his artistic skills sharp, Bowers paints outdoors, “in the open air” as often as possible. Bowers was recently awarded the Winner of Best Plein Air Acrylic for April 2022 in Plein Air Salon competition for his painting “Late Summer Afternoon”. The judge for the competition was award-winning artist Camille Przewodek. He also received the “Best of Show” award at the Arts Mount Holly Plein Air Paint Out in September 2022, a 3-day plein air painting festival in Mount Holly NC. The awards were judged by NC’s own award winning plein air painter Jeremy Sams.
Even when working on location, most of Bowers’ paintings are completed in less than two hours. Smaller canvases, and water based acrylic paint call for fast paced brushwork. Bowers uses his commercial art training to accurately draw the foundation of the painting, then using as few brushstrokes and details as possible, he quickly captures the feeling and atmosphere of the scene. An accomplished artist, Bowers takes great satisfaction in mixing colors on his palette to match what nature presents in front of him. Prominent light/shadow patterns, reflections, natural colors, a good sense of depth and strong drawing are essential ingredients to his paintings. While painting in the “impressionist” style, he concentrates on light and color over detail, painting locations and objects that are easily recognizable to the viewer.
"Jeffrey J. Bowers – Wanderings in Acrylic" is on view in the galleries of Southern Arts Society through May 31, and online at www.SouthernArtsSociety.org. You can also see more of Bowers artwork on his website https://jeffreyjbowers. com/. Bowers is currently a member of the North Carolina Plein Air Painters and Southern Arts Society.

In terms of name recognition, few individuals in American history may stack up against George Washington. A statesman, Founding Father and, of course, the first president of the United States, Washington led an interesting life. As Americans prepare to celebrate Presidents’ Day, they can ponder these interesting facts about the first man to hold the office of the president.
• George Washington was something of an autodidact. According to the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, which is devoted to educating individuals about the life and legacy of America’s first president, George Washington’s formal schooling ended around the time modern students might be immersed in their sophomore year of high school. The death of his father in 1743, when Washington was just 11 years old, left little money to finance a formal education for young George. Despite that, Washington fed an intellectual curiosity
throughout his life by reading.
• George Washington could cut a rug. The MVLA notes that various accounts indicate America’s first president was not averse to dancing into the wee hours of the morning.
Washington also was notably appreciative of the arts and attended the theater throughout his life.
• George Washington did not wear wooden teeth. The National Constitution Center notes that Washington’s teeth were made from a combination of materials, including ivory, gold and human and animal teeth.
• It might surprise modern students of American politics who have grown accustomed to divisiveness, but George Washington was twice the country’s unanimous choice for president. The MVLA reports that the electors of all 10 eligible states chose Washington as president in 1789. In 1792, Washington received all 132 electoral votes.
• George Washington bred American mules. King Charles III of Spain gifted George Washington a donkey in November 1784. That gift was not out of the blue, as Washington had sought to acquire a donkey several times prior to receiving the gift, which the MVLA notes arrived at Mount Vernon in 1785. Washington firmly believed mules could revolutionize American agriculture, and he sought a donkey so he could crossbreed it with his mares to produce mules. These are just some of the notable and interesting facts about George Washington, a man who played a vital role in the establishment of the United States of America.

Spring is such a beautiful season, isn’t it? The world wakes up, flowers bloom, and everything feels alive again. It’s the perfect time to think about our growth— especially how we can blossom in our walk with Christ. As a seed buried in the soil pushes toward the sun, we’re called to grow toward the Son, Jesus. Spiritual growth isn’t always fast or flashy, but it’s steady, purposeful, and ohso-rewarding when we trust God’s process. 2 Peter 3:18 (AMP) says, “But grow [spiritually mature] in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory (honor, majesty, splendor), both now and to the day of eternity.” Amen.
Abide in Christ
about striving harder or forcing fruit—it’s about abiding, letting His life flow through us. When we pray, read His Word, and lean into His presence, we’re like branches soaking up nutrients from the vine. The fruit comes naturally.
Ouch!
But growth isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes God prunes us, trimming away what’s dead or unnecessary.
Rest in Jesus, let Him prune what needs to go, and watch how He helps you blossom. You’re becoming more like Him every day—and that’s the most beautiful bloom of all.
PRAY THIS PRAYER:
Think about a flower for a minute. It doesn’t bloom overnight. It starts small, hidden under dirt, waiting for the right mix of rain, warmth, and time. That’s a lot like us! InJohn 15:5 (NLT), Jesus says, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” Staying connected to Him is where growth begins. It’s not
John 15:2 (AMP) tells us, “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He [repeatedly] prunes, so that it will bear more fruit [even richer and finer fruit]...” Pruning might feel like a loss—maybe it’s a habit, a mindset, or even a season we’re clinging to— but it’s preparation. God’s clearing space for something better, shaping us to blossom in ways we couldn’t before. Have you ever noticed how a pruned plant looks bare at first, but then explodes with new life? That’s us in Christ! Picture yourself as a little plant, roots sinking deep into Christ’s love, stretching toward His light. You’re not stuck—you’re growing, even when it’s slow. Every prayer, every step of obedience, every moment of trust is a petal unfurling. So, friend, let this April be your season to grow.
“ I will exalt You, my God, O King, And with gratitude and submissive wonder, I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You and lovingly praise You; Yes, with awe-inspired reverence I will praise Your name forever and ever. Lord, forgive me for fighting the pruning process because it was uncomfortable. Take away anything that is not like you. In Jesus’ name - Amen.” CONNECTING TO GOD: I encourage you to open your heart to God’s love and grace. Seek forgiveness for past wrongs, and invite Jesus into your heart as your Savior and Lord. Find a supportive community in a local church where you can grow and serve others. You can cultivate a meaningful relationship with God by dedicating daily time to reading the Bible and praying.

Periodic pain is a part of life many people can effectively manage without the help of medical professionals. A sore knee after some pickup basketball or a stiff neck after an awkward sleep probably won’t necessitate a trip or call to a doctor. But persistent pain does merit such concern, and could in fact be indicative of a condition known as fibromyalgia.
What is fibromyalgia?
The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases describes fibromyalgia as a chronic disorder that causes pain and tenderness throughout the body. People with fibromyalgia also experience fatigue and trouble sleeping.
What are the symptoms of fibromyalgia?
The NIAMS indicates chronic, widespread pain throughout the body, an overwhelming feeling of being tired and difficulty sleeping are the main symptoms of fibromyalgia. But people with fibromyalgia may experience additional symptoms, including:
• Stiffness in the muscles and joints
• Some areas of the body may be tender to touch
• Tingling in the arms and legs or a feeling of numbness in these areas
• Increased sensitivity to certain stimuli, including light, noise, odors, and temperature
• Problems that affect digestion, including bloating or constipation
The symptoms of fibromyalgia are often physical, but some people experience cognitive signs as well. Cognitive symptoms are often characterized as “fibro fog,” which is akin to brain fog that makes it hard to concentrate, think clearly or remember things.
What causes fibromyalgia?
The Cleveland Clinic notes that experts are uncertain about what causes fibromyalgia. But some studies have found a genetic link that suggests parents might pass the condition down to their children. However, the NIAMS points out that people with no family history of fibromyalgia still get it.
What are the risk factors for fibromyalgia?
Age and sex are two notable risk factors for fibromyalgia, which is most often diagnosed in individuals over
40. In addition, the Cleveland Clinic reports that women are twice as likely as men to experience fibromyalgia, and the NIAMS notes fibromyalgia affects people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. Additional risk factors for fibromyalgia include:
• Chronic illnesses: People with osteoarthritis are more likely to get fibromyalgia, as are individuals with certain mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety disorders. Irritable bowel syndrome also is considered a risk factor for fibromyalgia.
• Stress: Excessive stress can be a risk for fibromyalgia.
Can fibromyalgia be treated?
Treatment for fibromyalgia may require some trial and error as health care professionals work to identify an option that works. Such options may include over-
the-counter or prescription medication, including antidepressants; exercises that employ stretching and strength training; sleep ther-
apy; cognitive behavioral therapy; or stress management therapy.
Mount Sinai indicates fibromyalgia affects between 1
and 5 percent of the general population. Understanding the disorder may help people better manage the pain it causes.
Dawg Day on April 5 is an opportunity for high school sophomores and juniors to have their “first look” at the GardnerWebb University campus. They see an overview of what GWU has to offer with a full campus tour and an introduction to GWU’s academic offerings.
Student Recruitment
Ambassador Emma Jean Hampton shared that there’s so much to learn by visiting campus. The sophomore psychology major said on her first visit to Gardner-Webb campus, she was impressed by the small-knit atmosphere. “Definitely the community made the experience special,” she stated. “Everyone was so close and there wasn’t anywhere we could go on campus here that someone didn’t know who the tour guides where. Everyone was seen and loved.”
Not only will students and their families tour the campus, they will have an opportunity to meet
and talk with GardnerWebb professors at the academic department fair. They will also participate in a comprehensive admissions information session, explore student life, and enjoy a complimentary lunch in the Caf and network with fellow prospective students and GWU representatives.
Hampton said by visiting campus, students find out about the fun events that happen throughout the week and how to pursue their interests. Most importantly, there is an opportunity to forge new friendships. “Dawg Day is a great way to meet new people and create lasting relationships while also
exploring all the things Gardner Webb has to offer,” she asserted. “It’s seeing exactly where you can begin to fit into the story of this University.”

trip, the real enjoyment came before, during, and after, mealtimes. We ate so good I thought I might have to book two seats on my flight back home. It was a trip I will never forget. I missed a hog, missed a tom, and then shot a tom, all in those same few days. And not just any tom, but my first Rio turkey. The men who had gathered there were from different walks of life. There were business owners, computer gurus, foremen, and even a judge. All these men not only brought something different to our conversations, they did so within an environment that made that activity more comfortable. Whether we were on the back patio or at the kitchen table, we were able to huddle around and talk, listen, and learn. And I think this way is best for men.
I read one time that relationships are not made in rows but in circles. What a great truth! I think this not only goes for men, but for women as well. While there may be a certain teacher or leader in that circle, it seems we all do better when there is an equality of position. This means that while I may be teaching, I am not putting myself in a position of authority over another. I am simply facilitating a conversation. I may or may not know more about a subject, but neither makes my place in the circle more or less important as any other. I have also read when men sit in rows, the first thought that goes through their head, is “How long am I going to be here.” Rows are about monologs. Circles are about dialogs. And while I think we need both, circles go deeper into all our lives.
Are you finding a circle to get in? Men especially need them not only to help us grow but to hold us accountable. If you are a follower of Christ, these circles will not only prompt you to continue growing in your faith, they will also allow you to aid someone else’s growth as well. Just like we did in Texas.
