Ringed by citrus groves, cattle ranches and the Atlantic Ocean, Indian River County has a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. Centrally located 70 miles south of the Kennedy Space Center and 135 miles north of Miami, our 543 square miles contain beautiful beaches, groves of renowned Indian River oranges and grapefruit, immaculate oceanfront estates and riverfront communities. This unique setting, combined with a burgeoning retail and tourist industry, plus a dynamic business community, continues to attract national and international attention.

early 140,000 people reside in Indian River County, enjoying a climate moderated by the warm tropical waters of the Gulf Stream. Balmy winters combine with the summer’s fresh ocean breezes to keep the average temperature a delicious 74 degrees, allowing residents to swim, golf and play tennis all year long. In addition, the 26 miles of unspoiled beaches, the serene waterscapes of the Sebastian and Indian Rivers, and miles of pristine woodlands and fields provide an endless array of recreational adventures. Free from urban sprawl and congestion, Indian River County offers the ideal setting for living life to its fullest. Historically, agriculture and tourism have been the county’s largest industries. These are complimented by an increasing number of firms in the health care and information technology industries along with a steady stream of light manufacturing and service sector jobs. Relatively low labor costs and inexpensive building sites, plus the absence of state income tax, continue to attract industry. A motivated workforce of semi-skilled and trained technical workers points to a community that is productive and business-friendly. Quality education is an essential factor in measuring a community’s commitment, not only to its young people, but to its own future. The Indian River County public school system gets high marks for utilizing innovative curriculums along with traditional teaching methods and exciting multimedia capabilities to challenge and stimulate students’ imaginations. Higher education is well-served by Indian River State College, where students may choose from over 100 two-year and several four-year degree programs. In addition, the college provides vocational and technical training for some of the fastest growing occupations in Florida. The Mueller Center campus in Vero Beach offers a full schedule of on-site classes, as well as on-line programs for in-home study and a dual enrollment program for high school students. The college’s high-tech business and conference center, the Richardson Center on the Mueller campus, provides state-ofthe-art visual and audio technology for use by local businesses. The Kight Center for Emerging Technology at the Indian River State College main campus in Ft. Pierce offers hands-on training for area manufacturers with a focus on high technology.

WELCOME TO INDIAN RIVER COUNTY
I
ndian River County was established in 1925 and today is comprised of five incorporated municipalities, all governed by a Commission of five elected members representing each of the county’s five districts. Vero Beach is the county seat with a population estimated at 18,160 people and a council-manager form of government. Incorporated in 1910, Vero Beach was a rail stop along the Florida East Coast Railroad. Since those early days, the city has become the center for Indian River County’s flourishing economic and cultural growth. Picturesque residential communities, planned open space for community outings, along with unspoiled beaches and breathtaking landscapes, have contributed to the popularity of Vero Beach as a destination. Sebastian, north of Vero Beach, is the largest municipality with a population of approximately 22,924. Residents here enjoy a warm, friendly hometown atmosphere. Starting off as a fishing village, Sebastian is now focused on a growing tourist industry where visitors and residents can enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, surfing and many other water-oriented activities. Sebastian is run by a council-manager form of government.

Fellsmere, the most rural incorporated town in Indian River County, is located in the northwestern part of the county with a population of 5,108. Sugar had been the primary industry for this agricultural community, but in recent years the emphasis has shifted to citrus and cattle. Fellsmere is proud to be host of the famous Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival, held the third week in January. Fellsmere Day, is held the first Saturday in April with a parade, a bed race and a variety of family-orientated activities. Indian River Shores and Orchid are residential communities, both incorporated and both with a council-manager form of government. Indian River Shores is home to approximately 3,829 year-round residents, with that figure doubling during the winter months. Orchid is a golf and beach community, newly developed on the barrier island north of Vero Beach. Just over 300 residents enjoy pristine beaches, spectacular ocean vistas and golf courses around the luxury home sites. The lure of pedestrian-friendly communities is quickly being rediscovered in Indian River County. In the established areas of Vero Beach, an active Main Street Vero Beach Association is successfully working to restore and revitalize the historic downtown business section. On the barrier island, the Oceanside Business Association promotes the popular beachside businesses, and both of these commercial zones are within easy walking distance of attractive residential areas. Royal Palm Pointe is a destination area for shopping, dining, business services and condominium living. In Sebastian, the riverfront has become a prime destination for strolling, shopping and dining.

LIVING IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY
M
any new and existing single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums are available. For those seeking the finest in luxury, there are spacious villas, homes and palatial estates, some reaching well into the multi-million-dollar range. Many communities look out over golf course fairways, expansive woodlands and meadows, or have breathtaking ocean or river views. Long-standing city residences offer a relaxed hometown atmosphere perfect for those tropical evening strolls. Typically, one can expect a 20-minute commute or less to work and shopping; recreational activities are only minutes away. Public services, including professional fire, police and emergency medical teams, are strategically located throughout Indian River County to provide a rapid response system should you need them. Two full-service hospitals serve the area, providing personalized, state-of-the-art medical care. Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach has partnered with Duke University Health System to provide cardiac surgery for area residents. For those residing to the north, Sebastian River Medical Center serves Indian River and Brevard counties. Both facilities have 24-hour emergency room service, special care centers and the very latest in diagnostic equipment. Indian River Medical Center has 234 physicians on staff, while Sebastian River Medical Center has a staff of 103 physicians. Holmes Regional Trauma Center in Melbourne provides trauma care for Indian River County residents through a partnership with the University of Florida. Community outreach is a major component for most medical facilities, offering various workshops, physician referral services, medical hotlines, and innovative care programs for stay-at-home and elderly patients. Also, the county is home to numerous other topquality medical support services from physical therapy to advanced vision care.

The county library system is the envy of many larger regions. The system provides not only extensive volumes for research and enjoyment, but also incorporates the latest in multimedia equipment, computer stations and electronic data retrieval. The staff of city and county public agencies stand ready to offer friendly support and assistance to help with regulation and service issues. Swimming, surfing, boating, deep sea fishing, scuba diving and sky diving are just a few of the wide range of exciting recreational opportunities awaiting you in Indian River County. There are 17 challenging golf courses, four open to the public, for every level of play and convenient to every community. In addition, there are tennis courts, hiking and biking trails, riverside camping and seaside picnic facilities available for year-round enjoyment. The Environmental Learning Center sets the tone for Indian River County’s care and concern for the environment with hands-on experiences and fascinating natural hammocks and displays. In addition, there are live theater performances at the Riverside Theatre, Riverside Children’s Theatre, and the Vero Beach Theatre Guild. Enjoy engaging walking tours of McKee Botanical Garden and the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area. National and international exhibitions at the Vero Beach Museum of Art will pique your imagination. The Indian River Citrus Museum, in the Heritage Center, tells the story and preserves the artifacts, photographs and memorabilia of area citrus pioneers. Visit the Indian River Historical Society in Vero Beach, near the Chamber of Commerce building, and learn about the many historical sites throughout the county that can make for a very rewarding outing. At the end of the day, there are countless restaurants from which to choose that suit any taste, and for the young-at-heart there are entertaining night spots to cap off the evening. Yes, Indian River County is truly the priceless gem of the Treasure Coast, and we offer a warm welcome to each of you.

ABOUT THE CHAMBER
O
n the evening of March 10, 1922, a group of individuals met in the city council chambers to establish the Chamber of Commerce. According to newspaper stories written for the Vero Press, in September of that same year 30 Chamber members gathered for dinner to mark the first six-month anniversary of the Chamber. Following dinner and cigars, the group began their plans for the first publicity piece to promote the area. Today, our Chamber has grown to represent nearly 1,000 businesses and thousands of employees. We provide our membership and the community with valuable and timely information and services to keep our county competitive into the next century.

or 88 years, our Chamber has been the voice of the business community, growing from thirty business leaders to an organization representing 1,000 business owners and their employees. Our award-winning organization is built upon the strengths of our professional staff, volunteers, and our ability to bring people and ideas to the table. The Chamber’s reputation working with other organizations and government to develop coalitions, build consensus and instill cooperation is outstanding. Recognized as one of the Best Large Chambers in Florida, our Chamber has earned Four-Star Accreditation from the United States Chamber for our performance and quality standards.
The focus of our Chamber is creating a strong local economy, promoting quality of life for our community, providing opportunities for our members and representing business through action. DIVISIONS & COMMITTEES TASK FORCES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIVISION As the designated county agency for county-wide economic development efforts, the Chamber provides leadership and resources to encourage a healthy local economy through the attraction and retention of industry. The Division works in cooperation with the county’s government leadership and the Commission-appointed Economic Development Council. Primary funding is generated through our Private Industry Partner investors, county general funds, private sector contracts and in-kind services. Semi-annual Economic Development Tours are scheduled for local residents. The Industry Appreciation Task Force applauds our local industries and employers and recognizes renovations, new construction and architectural accomplishments every year. The Indian River County/City of Vero Beach Enterprise Zone program is administered by the Chamber’s Economic Development Division. The program offers certain tax credits, tax refunds and other incentives to businesses operating in the zone. TOURISM PROMOTION & MARKETING Also a designated county agency, the Chamber’s Tourism Division is the county’s national and international visitor promotion and marketing arm. With a focus on off-season visitors and stay-cations, the primary concentration is the attraction of quality, overnight visitors and special segment markets like destination weddings and small meetings. Our market includes the southeast, north and mid-west United

States, Canada and some South American countries. This Chamber function is funded by the county bed tax as well as inkind contributions from the Chamber and visitor industry businesses. GOVERNMENTAL ISSUES COMMITTEE Through a representative group of Chamber members, this Division monitors local, state and federal legislation. They study, recommend and communicate Chamber positions on pending legislation affecting the business community to appropriate government officials and propose legislation when/if needed. The Division hosts public candidate forums to educate the voter. The group also hosts legislative luncheons open to members and the public and meets with local elected officials throughout the year to discuss specific items. BUSINESS AND EDUCATION DIVISION The Business & Education Division partners Chamber members and educators in pursuit of educational and career opportunities throughout Indian River County. They provide input to help schools graduate work-ready employees. They develop, promote and provide programs to enhance relationships and partnerships between the business and education communities, and communicate educational needs for the present and future workforce. On behalf of the education community, the Chamber surveys businesses, recruits mentors, program leaders and others as needed. Partnerships exist with Imagine Schools and the Education Foundation of Indian River County. The Mystery Reader program is offered in many area 2nd grade classrooms promoting awareness of the importance of reading and writing to get and keep a good job when you grow up.

AMBASSADOR DIVISION The "Ambassadors" are a group of active Chamber members who serve as the liaison between the Chamber board and staff and the membership at large. They serve as welcome agents for new members at Chamber functions and make contact with members throughout the year about upcoming events and activities. They participate in membership retention and the development of new memberships. Ambassadors also serve as official emcees at such Chamber networking events as Good Morning Treasure Coast Breakfast, Business After Hours and Ribbon Cuttings. CHAMBER SPECIAL EVENTS Chamber special events help insure a stream of non-dues revenues. Events such as Good Morning Treasure Coast Breakfast, New Member Reception, Business After Hours offer great opportunities for networking and meeting new customers. Seminars, guest speaker events, and legislative luncheons are also offered on a regular basis.

LEADERSHIP INDIAN RIVER COUNTY Leadership Indian River County is a community leadership program offered through the Chamber’s Leadership Foundation. The 7-session training program brings together a cross-section of the community, representing our social, economic and geographic diverse population for a hands-on, multi-disciplinary study of our community. Participants gain an introduction to the infrastructure, natural resources and current political issues of Indian River County and an understanding of what constitutes leadership. The program is based on a model that incorporates nourishing and developing community leaders: building community knowledge, developing leadership skills, and gaining an understanding of community stewardship. The program prepares participants for active involvement in public and private sectors and civic responsibility creating a better informed and vigorous leadership with a greater understanding of county needs- now and in the future. The program is tuition based and self-funded. LATIN BUSINESS COUNCIL The Latin Business Council of the Chamber provides leadership and guidance to help Latin businesses. Networking opportunities between Latin businesses improve productivity and recognize the achievements of Latin individuals and companies that have a positive influence on our community. In

BENEFITS & BUSINESS TOOLS NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES The Chamber sponsors dozens of events to help members get to know and do business with one another. Networking with other members is an effective way of generating new clients and business leads. Monthly networking events open to the entire membership are Business After Hours and the Good Morning Treasure Coast Breakfast. YOUNG PROFESSIONAL NETWORK The Chamber’s Young Professionals Network provide professionals in their 20's and 30's with the opportunity for monthly networking with one another on a regular basis while receiving valuable information that will help them advance in their careers. Mix and Mingle events and community service rounds out the regular YPN activities. The Chamber understands the importance of educating young professionals and providing them an opportunity to establish and build relationships with others in their community. MEETINGS The Annual Membership Meeting brings members information about the plans and goals for the upcoming year. It provides an opportunity to introduce new Chamber leadership and recognize outstanding contributions made by Chamber members. Our General Membership Meetings may feature business speakers, educators or area legislators addressing timely business issues or areas of interest to the community. The annual Industry Appreciation Awards Luncheon is held in September and recognizes the best new commercial and residential projects, redevelopment and restoration projects, and architectural and landscaping achievements. The Manufacturer of the Year, Latin Business of the Year and Company of the Year awards are also presented at this event. EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS Designed for both large and small businesses, Chambersponsored seminars provide members with opportunities for continued education and awareness. Seminars are led by nationally recognized speakers, educators and members of the Chamber. NEW MEMBER RECEPTIONS Held three times each year, these receptions are an opportunity for new members to visit the Chamber offices, meet the staff, members of the board and Ambassadors, and get acquainted with one another.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE COMMUNICATIONS ACTION ALERT PROGRAM The Chamber "Action Alert" program immediately warns over 1,500 county businesses of the urgent threat from scam artists, shoplifting and stealing, use of phony credit cards and other business crimes. The effort, organized by the Indian River Chamber of Commerce, is a collaboration of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the Police Departments of Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Fellsmere, the Public Safety Department of Indian River Shores, along with Florida State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce. The information sent by the chambers provides detailed information on the number of suspects, suspect descriptions, type of crime, vehicle descriptions and other pertinent information. Each "Action Alert" also provides phone numbers for all local law enforcement agencies and Crime Stoppers. The success of the program has been seen in the arrests made as a result of the program. MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY and QUALITY OF LIFE GUIDE The Membership Directory & Quality of Life Guide serves as an important reference tool for businesses and residents alike. The Directory is published annually and provides free listings for Chamber members. The Quality of Life Guide also provides demographic and other important information on selected area services.

MANUFACTURER’S DIRECTORY This Directory is a comprehensive list of all companies that qualify as a manufacturer under the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). NEWSLETTERS The Chamber’s monthly newsletter, Chamber Link, carries important Chamber news, updates on Chamber positions, and a schedule of Chamber meetings and events. It is mailed to all Chamber members, key business leaders and government officials each month. It also provides an opportunity for members to advertise their products and services. Members are encouraged to submit their business news for publication in the newsletter Member News section. Members may also have an opportunity to showcase their business in the Member Profile section of the newsletter. Profiles are selected at random from attendees at Business After Hours networking functions. The Chamber’s Tourism Division also shares county visitor industry news in an emailed newsletter sent to thousands of recipients around the world. This newsletter highlights special deals and promotions from county hotels, restaurants and more to attract visitors to our county. Our Economic Development Division also provides a monthly newsletter email report on economic diversification activities. The newsletter is emailed to all Chamber members, city and municipal government leaders, and Private Industry Partner investors. WEEKLY CHAMBER UPDATE AND "BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE REPORT" The Chamber Update is published each Monday and is emailed or faxed to our members and other community leaders. The Update carries timely, "need to know" information. On the first Monday of the month all Chamber members who receive their update via email receive the Business Intelligence Report. During times of disaster, the Update is published daily and is dedicated to providing the link members need to bring them factual recovery information.

he county’s population, which has grown steadily to nearly 140,000, is supported by an economy based primarily on tourism, light industry, and agriculture.
Services account for the majority of Indian River County’s employment, followed by healthcare, trade and transportation, retail, government and construction. In Indian River County, the largest percentage of acres remains undeveloped or preserved. The county is the center of the world-famous Indian River Citrus District. The county appeals to CEOs for several reasons. Building sites are relatively inexpensive compared with Florida’s metropolitan and industrial centers. Site-selection executives have continually given high marks to Indian River County for its commitment to long-term planning for roads, land use and utilities. Electric, water and sewer are available at every developed commercial site and many undeveloped sites as well. Natural gas is also available throughout the county. The latest in high-speed telecommunications is provided by a number of local high-tech communications providers. The county has a diverse workforce, ranging from semiskilled to trained technicians. A close relationship is maintained between the business community and the schools. The public school system offers a School-to-Work program that provides students with experience in basic workplace skills that are in

tune with the needs of area businesses. In addition, Indian River State College (IRSC), a fully accredited and nationally recognized institution, is committed to supplying qualified, responsible employees. The college offers on-site customized training programs that help provide timely solutions for local industry. Also, IRSC will design training for area businesses. Labor costs in Indian River County are relatively low. The average annual wage is $35,043. No state income tax in Florida and a low crime rate offer additional incentives. The county’s convenient location – centered halfway between Miami and Jacksonville, and situated directly across the state from Tampa – is a definite plus for businesses and traveling executives.

The retail industry in Indian River County saw 2 million square feet of new retail space added in the late 1990s. Most of this was on the State Route 60 corridor near Interstate 95. Also, Sebastian and Fellsmere are providing the north county with considerably more retail and business opportunities than in the past. Despite the retail growth, the county remains known for its charming, independently owned shops that continue to thrive along the barrier island and on the mainland. Tourism is big business in Indian River County, but it remains free of the congestion often found in other oceanfront communities, largely because the tourists are centered in a variety of "pockets." Oceanfront facilities continue to be the major tourist draw, but the fishing village ambiance in Sebastian is becoming increasingly popular. The Interstate 95-State Route 60 corridor is now a shopper’s Mecca, primarily because of the Indian River Mall, a variety of independent centers, and the discount opportunities at Vero Fashion Outlets. Additionally, U.S.1 continues to see redevelopments of retail, adding new opportunities. The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce has a trained, professional staff to help local businesses. Also, the Chamber Economic Development Office has a wide range of services to provide business executives assistance with site selection and identifying resources, trade leads and referrals. It also conducts round-table discussion groups and seminars.

For the new resident, the Chamber offers a comprehensive package of information for newcomers that includes area telephone books, maps, service listings and much more.
COUNTY MAP This updated county map of Indian River County is sold at the Chamber office to members, government representatives, new residents and thousands of visitors each year. MAILING LABELS Members can purchase the Chamber membership list on peel and stick labels which may be pre-sorted alphabetically or by zip code. Labels can be ordered for the entire membership or by designated classifications for market-specific advertising. MEMBERSHIP DECALS Available to all members, the Chamber membership decal is displayed in front doors or windows to acknowledge business affiliation with the Chamber. The decal is also available for company fleets. Display of this membership decal demonstrates a favorable association to clients and customers. SPONSORSHIPS The Chamber hosts dozens of events each year that generate the attention of members, the media and the general public. n Vero Beach, intimate boutiques and gourmet dining establishments are tucked into cozy, tropical settings. Stroll among the charming Village Shops on North A1A and along Ocean Drive and Cardinal Drive in the Oceanside Business District. The South Beach area has expanded both accommodations and dining opportunities. Explore shops and restaurants on the mainland, in the historic downtown area or along the riverfront. The Indian River Mall is anchored by Dillard’s, J.C. Penney, Macy’s and Sears. Nearby, Vero Fashion Outlets is a plaza-style mall offering discount factory-direct savings on famous brandname merchandise. Shoppers may walk outside or ride a courtesy trolley to various points within the plaza. The U.S. Highway 1 thoroughfare includes the Vero Mall at 12th Street. The mall is anchored by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Crisper’s, Publix, SteinMart and Tuesday Morning. Restaurants, automobile dealerships and shopping plazas complete the makeup of this busy main artery through Vero Beach. THE GREAT OUTDOORS Golf and tennis are a way of life in Florida. Indian River County offers a wide choice of both public and private courses and courts. The equestrian set is gaining in popularity with two local polo facilities–one on the barrier island, one on the mainland–and an equestrian center, the Vero Beach Polo & Saddle Club. Bridge is such a popular pastime that we have one of the largest bridge clubs in the nation. The Vero Beach Duplicate Bridge Club, Inc. enjoys their own 10,000-square-foot facility. Players of all levels are welcome. With "water, water everywhere" and 26 miles of sandy, ocean beaches, local water sports are too numerous to list. Natural resources have been so carefully protected in Indian River County that our extensive park system and special ecological wonders delight both young and old. Kayaking and canoeing through protected preserves offer a serene experience. Spend a day fishing in the river or ocean. Manatee Viewing Area During the winter months, manatees are seen in the warm water on Indian River Boulevard, just north of the 17th Street Bridge and the Vero Beach Municipal Power Plant. McKee Botanical Garden 772-794-0601, www.mckeegarden.org Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, McKee Botanical Garden is an 18-acre subtropical garden supporting a dense and diverse botanical collection as well as several restored architectural treasures. The first permitted, structurally engineered bamboo structure to stand in the United States has been erected at the Garden. Originally built in Colombia, the building was disassembled, shipped by boat to Florida and rebuilt at McKee. Established in 1909 and bequeathed to the Historical Society of Indian River County by Ruth Hallstrom. The farmhouse documents and demonstrates a bygone way of life in southern Indian River County. In 1995, the Cultural Council of Indian River was formed to lend support and promotion to the various organizations and their activities and programs. It is the only children’s theater in the state that has its own building and is one of only 10 free-standing children’s theaters in the nation. There is a year-round professional staff of three instructors/directors to maintain its many programs. Outreach programs go into the schools with their productions and to give classes. Classes in all aspects of theatre–acting, voice, dance and backstage skills–are given year-round at the Agnes Wahlstrom Youth Playhouse for pre-kindergartners through age 18. Some adult classes, including many private lessons, are also given in the Youth Playhouse. The popular summer day camp culminates in productions suitable for each age group. Treasure Coast Jazz Society (TCJS) 772-234-0709 Since 1986, TCJS has brought a variety of noted jazz musicians to Vero Beach. In addition, the society has awarded scholarships to talented young Treasure Coast musicians to further their education. The TCJS Jazz at Noon concerts are festive affairs for members and their guests. Performances are open to the public. The club conducts exhibitions and art shows, provides scholarships, and seeks to promote artistic growth by education and exhibition. The Under the Oaks Art Show, now in its 59th year, is produced by the club and draws more than 200 artists from all over the U.S. It is attended by more than 80,000 spectators and has become one of the largest events in Indian River County. The event was named "Best Arts & Crafts Festival of 2009" by Florida Magazine. The guild also sponsors workshops in various theatre disciplines, and sends a mini-troupe called Guild on the Go into the community to entertain. WHAT NEWCOMERS NEED TO KNOW EDUCATION INDIAN RIVER COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS www.indianriverschools.org The public school system serves over 17,000 students, who attend 28 schools. There are 14 elementary schools, four of which are magnet schools, four middle schools (grades 6 through 8), two comprehensive senior high schools (grades 9 through 12) and a charter high school, a charter junior high and three charter elementary schools. In addition, there is a special-needs school for exceptional children, one alternative school for grades 7-12, and adult education that serves anyone over the age of 16 and includes general (GED and Adult Basic Education), postsecondary career/technical education, and lifelong learning. The Adult and Community Education Center serves approximately 6,000 students in the community. The system has over 1,100 certified teachers, ensuring an excellent student-faculty ratio. Vero Beach High School and Sebastian River High School offer extensive programs in academic and career/technical subjects, including business, building construction, health science, culinary arts, TV production, auto technology, welding and drafting. The academic programs offer Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and honor classes. REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS For Public School: For Preschool, the child must be 4 years old on or before September For Kindergarten, the child must be age 5 on or before September 1. For first grade, he or she must be age 6 by September 1 and have graduated from Kindergarten. IRMC is accredited by The Joint Commission and a number of departments and services have received state and national certification. Affiliated with Duke University Health System, The Heart Center offers cardiac surgery, angioplasty and a full array of cardiac services. Its outstanding surgery outcomes have earned it recognition as one of the top cardiac surgery programs in America by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The hospital's high quality vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery techniques and technologies have earned national recognition. The first, slated to open in January, will be located on U.S. 1 in Sebastian, just north of Walmart. In March, the second Urgent Care Center is scheduled to open at Pointe West in Vero Beach. (Corporate Income/Franchise and Emergency Excise Tax Return). A partnership is required to file a Florida Partnership Information Return Form F-1065 if it is doing business in Florida and a corporation is one of the partners. A limited liability company that is classified as a corporation for Florida and federal income tax purposes is subject to the Florida Income Tax Code and must file a Florida corporate income tax return. A limited liability company that is classified as a partnership for Florida and federal income tax purposes is required to file Form F-1065 if one or more of its owners is a corporation. In addition, the corporate owner of a limited liability company that is classified as a partnership for Florida and federal income tax purposes must file a Florida corporate income tax return. A single member limited liability company that is disregarded for Florida and federal income tax purposes is not required to file a separate Florida corporate income tax return. However, the income of the company is not exempt from tax if it is owned by a corporation, whether directly or indirectly. In this case, the corporation is required to file Form F-1120 reporting its own income, together with the income of the single member limited liability company. S Corporations and tax-exempt organizations are generally not required to file a Florida corporate income tax return if they do not have federal taxable income. If they have federal taxable income, however, they are then required to file a Florida corporate income tax return and pay any tax due. Homeowner and condominium associations that file federal Form 1120 (U.S. Corporation Income Tax Return) must file Florida Form F1120 or F1120A regardless of whether any tax may be due. If federal Form 1120-H (U.S. Income Tax Return for Homeowners Associations) is filed, a Florida return is not required. Personal Property Tax http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/forms/prior/!ippt.html Beginning January 1, 2007, individuals, married couples, personal representatives of estates, and businesses are no longer required to file an annual intangible personal property tax return reporting their stocks, bonds, mutual funds, money market funds, shares of business trusts, and unsecured notes. The Legislature has repealed the annual tax on these properties. The last annual intangible tax return that these taxpayers were required to file was the 2006 return that was due by June 30, 2006. Any intangible taxes owed to the State for that return or prior years are still due. Not all intangible taxes have been repealed. The intangible tax on leases of government-owned real property and the one-time intangible tax on notes secured by a mortgage on Florida real property are still in effect. Real Estate Tax The real estate tax is a combination of city, county and school taxes and is based on 100% of the appraised value of a property. The tax year continued on page 64

In Florida, homeowners may be eligible for a $50,000 exemption from real estate taxes on the assessed value of a home, if it is their primary residence and if they meet certain other criteria. Sales Tax The state sales tax is 6% on the dollar with food, medicine and professional services exempt. Indian River County has added a 1% sales tax to be in effect until December 31, 2019, making the total sales tax 7%.
TRANSPORTATION Bus Service GoLine is the Indian River County public transit system with bus service on 11 fixed routes throughout the County and Barefoot Bay. GoLine buses operate weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with several routes running until 6:00 p.m. Saturday service is offered on specific routes 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Riders under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and all passengers must be able to board, disembark and carry their own packages on and off the buses. GoLine passengers are encouraged to make a donation to help support the bus system. Airports Melbourne International Airport, just 33 miles north of Vero Beach, offers flights connecting to destinations around the world. International service includes flights to the Bahamas. Approximately 90 minutes from Indian River County are two fullservice airports that provide direct, daily service to national and international destinations: Orlando International Airport in Orlando and Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach. Recent renovations to both Sebastian and Vero Beach airport terminal buildings make them very attractive gateways to our county. The Sebastian Municipal Airport has a 4,000-foot runway and a 3,200-foot runway. The airport is located one mile west of the city of Sebastian and is also home to the Sebastian Municipal Golf Course.
