The Pros and Cons of Distance Learning by wayneemersongregoryjr | Feb 23, 2022 | education
Distance learning has become a fast-growing teaching strategy. Recent years have forced the transition in some instances, while other schools hold firm to in-person education. Naturally, distance learning has advantages and disadvantages. Here are the most significant pros and cons of distance learning. Pro: Builds Independence Home learning is designed for independent self-starters. Studying at home teaches children to learn and figure out things without calling for assistance. Slow and fast learners study at their pace without pressure to keep up with somebody else. Con: Challenges in Coping with Forced Independence Students without good study skills struggle to overcome distractions. Younger students who require more guidance find it hard to study alone. It is vital for parents of such students to insist that they adopt routines that minimize procrastination and maintain contact with teachers. https://wayneemersongregoryjr.org/the-pros-and-cons-of-distance-learning/

Pro: Remote Learning Compels Learners to Focus on Learning Some students view a classroom as a scary place that makes them uncomfortable, insecure, and reluctant to speak out. Distance learning favors those who do not like the classroom setup. They can finally focus on studying and not the learning environment. Con: Fewer Opportunities to Interact and Collaborate Lack of a chance for students to engage their teachers and peers in person is one of the biggest cons of distance learning. Collaboration is still essential when learning. Parents should remind their children to use new methods to reach out to their peers even as they strive to be self-sufficient learners. Pro: It is Simple to Extend Learning/Get Ahead Some students get excited about studying at their pace. The creative ones develop ways of learning lessons taught at school faster or longer. Teachers might even suggest this strategy when they face time constraints for joint studies at school. Distance learning provides students more time to learn more about topics. Con: Learners Can Easily Fall Behind Remote learning succeeds when students have the discipline to sit and study like someone in a classroom. Children who are not motivated will have problems studying and staying on top of school work. The risk of falling behind underscores the importance of a fixed schedule and adopting study habits. The pros and cons of distance learning show it is not perfect, but it still creates opportunities for children to develop as independent students. Parents should think about the possibilities and encourage their children to think along the same line. It will not be surprising for children to develop a new positive attitude and mindset.
