STUDENT ACTIVITIES Joy Ike Saturday, September 13 | 7p.m. Roberts Chapel In her third full-length album, independent artist Joy Ike offers her most realized work yet. “All or Nothing” includes 10 songs about giving up everything you have in exchange for everything you need. Ike’s music, voice and writing has drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones and Fiona Apple. But her percussive piano-playing and soaring vocals give homage to her African upbringing. Leaving her career as a publicist in 2008, Ike has since played more than 600 shows and has had the opportunity to share the stage with many accomplished artists. Her songs have been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and Relevant Magazine’s The Drop. Her song, “Everything You Have,” was recently featured on NPR’s World Cafe during a segment on emerging artists. “All or Nothing” is more or less the culmination of her hard years of work and a clear articulation of feelings, beliefs and convictions that were once inexpressible. It is a deep dive into the unknown - a definitive statement on life and how one chooses to spend it. Free admission.

Guest Art Exhibition: Brian and Laura Plank Monday, September 8 through Friday, October 3 Opening Reception: Monday, September 8 | 6 to 8 p.m. Benedum Fine Arts Gallery Brian and Laura Plank are married artists who create art side-by-side, yet they have very different approaches to the making of art images. This exhibit will give the Waynesburg University community an opportunity to see how two different viewpoints of art come together. Brian creates art that is “for anyone to enjoy and that is accessible to all.” He injects humor and whimsy into his pieces, while Laura’s love for medieval manuscripts, flat textile pattern and bold outline portrays a different perspective. She uses hand-painted lino-cuts, as well as acrylic, ink and gold leaf to explore Biblical scripture and the world surrounding us. Free admission. Senior Art Exhibition: Laura Shawver Monday, October 6, through Friday, October 24 Opening Reception: Monday, October 6 | 6 to 8 p.m. Benedum Fine Arts Gallery The Art Program at Waynesburg University allows students to mold, paint and sketch works of their imagination while providing the tools to grasp a comprehensive knowledge of techniques and history. Call 724-852-3274 for more information. Free admission.

Galloway et al.” Wednesday, September 17 | Noon Goodwin Performing Arts Center Written by several Waynesburg University Stover Scholars, “In God We Pray?: Town of Greece, New York v. Galloway et al.,” dramatizes the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2014 case upholding the town of Greece, New York’s practice of beginning monthly town board meetings with prayer by local clergy. The play brings to life the legal arguments in favor and against the practice of legislative prayer resulting from Susan Galloway and Linda Stephens’ ultimately failed lawsuit against the municipality. The play examines the spectrum of judicial opinion interpreting the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment religion clauses, which state, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This production is directed by Edward L. Powers, professor of theater, and sponsored by the Stover Center for Constitutional Studies and Moral Leadership. Free admission.
