PRESIDENT’S LETTER Whether you’re a parent, an athlete, a member of the media or a spirited spectator, I am pleased to welcome you to our Yellow Jacket community and look forward to cheering on the Jackets with you! As a member of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), Waynesburg University offers 18 NCAA Division III varsity sports for our hundreds of student-athletes. While the reasons for participation in these sports are many, all of our athletic programs are aimed at helping our student-athletes grow spiritually, intellectually and athletically during their collegiate experience. During the 2014-15 academic year, 110 Waynesburg University student-athletes earned recognition on the PAC fall and spring Academic Honor Rolls. That combined total was the highest of all 10 PAC schools, an impressive achievement that illustrates the caliber of student-athletes at Waynesburg.
President Douglas G. Lee
Also this year, the Yellow jacket men were awarded the PAC All-Sports Trophy for the first time in University history. PAC All-Sports Trophies are awarded annually to the schools that perform the best across the board in league competition. Our goal is to provide our student-athletes with the best possible education and experiences that will prepare them to lead lives of purpose. We actively recruit student-athletes with high academic standards who will pursue excellence in the classroom and community while competing at the highest level in their chosen sport.

HEAD COACH RON CHRISTMAN Waynesburg University tennis coach Ron Christman is a certified professional member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and an experienced tournament player, tennis instructor, and coach. He continues to teach privately and run tennis camps in the off-season. The 2015-2016 tennis season marks Christman’s 18th at Waynesburg University. Christman has coached the women’s team since the fall of 1998 and the men since the spring of 2000. Under his guidance, both programs earned their first winning seasons in 2001-2002. The women’s team has placed a programbest second on multiple occassions at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships. Following the 2005 tournament, four Yellow Jackets earned all-conference honors, while all three doubles teams received all-conference laurels. The Yellow Jacket men have also finished runner-up in the final team standings of the annual PAC championships on multiple occasions. The 2014 Jackets took fourth and gathered three sets of second-team All-PAC laurels.
Christman’s involvement in tennis goes beyond his coaching duties. He is a member of the ITA and serves as a Vice President of Adult Activities on the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Middle States. This past summer, Christman achieved Etcheberry Certified status, which allows him to make legendary Pat Etcheberry’s strength, conditioning and movement secrets for tennis available to aspiring tennis players in the southwestern Pennsylvania area. He is also a frequent presenter on a variety of tennis subjects. He won the USPTA Middle States seminar contest in 2000 and presented his “Winning Doubles Strategy” seminar at the USPTA World Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., that fall. He also has presented “Building Tennis Programs” and “NCAA Division III Tennis” at seminars in recent years. Christman’s past activities include serving as president of community tennis organizations as well as holding certificates as a USTA/ITA tournament official and a USTA NTRP rating verifier. His current tennis-teaching activities range from introductory clinics for adults and children to working directly with serious players. A native of Washington, Pa., Christman attended Waynesburg University and Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y.
Christman was named USPTA Middle States Division College Coach of the Year for the second time in his career in 2004. His first honor from the USPTA came in 1999. Christman also has received PAC Coach of the Year twice during his tenure at Waynesburg.

The Yellow Jacket tennis teams have also achieved tremendous success in the classroom. The women’s team earned its 11th Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) AllAcademic Team Award over the past 12 years in 2011-12, while the men’s team also added its third ITA All-Academic Team Award over the past four years to their long list of awards for classroom success.
Head coach Ron Christman has always made it a point to value academic and athletic success with his teams.

ITA ACADEMIC SUCCESS The Waynesburg University tennis programs have gone beyond success on the court. Their quest for glory both on the court and in the classroom has led both men's and women's programs to receiving Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Academic All-American honors. The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team garnered the honor for the 11th time in 12 years following the 2011 campaign. For the men, 2011 brought them their third award in four seasons. Head coach Ron Christman is a strong believer that the Yellow Jacket tennis teams prove that players can excel both as students and as athletes. “We've been fortunate to build a program around young people who are good students and good athletes," said Christman. "I see how hard our players work to do well in class, on the court and in the community.” The Waynesburg women’s tennis teams had five of their own lauded as ITA Scholar Athletes in 2011, which rewards a season GPA of at least 3.50. A trio of Waynesburg netters represented the men’s team that year as ITA Scholar Athletes. In addition to the recognition they received from the ITA, the program also saw an impressive eight women’s players and Canning listed on the Fall 2012 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Academic Honor Roll. Five Jacket men received the honor for spring PAC Academic Honor Roll. The ITA Academic All-America Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. In order to earn ITA Scholar Athlete status, a player must own a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
As Yellow Jacket student-athletes are proving, success is measured both in competition and in the classroom.

WAYNESBURG COURTS The 2010-2011 men’s and women’s tennis season was highlighted by the first overhaul in Waynesburg tennis playing facilities in decades. The Yellow Jackets moved from their old three-court facility on campus, to a brand new six-court setup located just outside of the borough of Waynesburg behind the outfield fence of Waynesburg’s baseball field. Veteran head tennis coach Ron Christman’s men’s and women’s squads inaugurated the courts during the 2010-2011 seasons.
to worry about getting the matches in with this facility.” Playing on the old three-court facility, previous seasons included difficulties in completing matches. Christman believes this problem will no longer be an issue. “Six courts will reduce dual match time by as much as two hours,” Christman said. “Typically, our matches ran longer by an hour to an hour-and-a-half, but longer matches were not unusual. Matches on six courts will take two to three hours to complete.” Christman also sees the courts as a major asset to the future of both the men’s and women’s programs when it comes to future recruits and scheduling. “Not having six courts was always a huge issue for us in recruiting and even in scheduling home matches,” Christman said. “The significant increase in home matches for both men and women this coming year is due specifically to the new facility with six courts.”

The venue showcases six courts with enclosed fencing featuring rounded California corners, replacing the over 100-year old predecessors. Better spacing between individual courts and between the baselines and fences allow for safer play and fewer stoppages when balls cross into courts other than their own. Amity Asphalt handled the project and is the same company that surfaced Waynesburg’s John F. Wiley Stadium and the school’s baseball field. The site adds another state-of-the-art facility for the University. The court surface is green Decoturf, which is the same surface used at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. “Based on talks with Ron [Christman], it will be a major improvement,” said Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Roy Barnhart. “Now the teams won’t have 6
Net Play magazine, produced by the United States Tennis Association (UTSA), recently featured the courts in its publication. The article listed Waynesburg’s facility as one players should play at within the Allegheny Mountain region,
2015 SEASON PREVIEW Veteran head coach Ron Christman will feature a mix of young and old on his latest women’s squad. The 2014 edition of the Yellow Jackets put together a very solid 10-5 overall record that included a 4-4 mark in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) matches). After finishing the regular season in fifth place, Waynesburg posted a sixthplace showing at the annual PAC Championship Tournament. The Jackets are led this fall by senior Rachel Klemash, who is expected to go into her fourth-straight season as the team’s numberone singles player. She posted an 8-5 overall singles record, which was the second-highest win total on the team. The veteran standout added an 8-6 overall mark in doubles competition while teaming up exclusively with then-senior Alyssa Daniel. Klemash was honored as a PAC Player of the Week after going a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles action over a 3-0 week for the Jackets.
their final seasons in orange and black the most impactful of their respective collegiate careers. Christman’s offseason recruiting efforts landed him a group composed of three freshmen and one sophomore transfer. The three Jacket freshmen - Aubree Brown, Rachel Falter and Mallory Tiffin - hail from Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Maryland, respectively. Elizabeth Ensminger is a native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jackets open the 2015 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 1, when they travel to Saint Vincent College for a non-PAC match against the Bearcats. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The McDonald, Pennsylvania, native headlines a five-woman senior class that also features Rachel Wilson, who split time during her junior season between fifth and sixth singles. She went 3-0 at the number-five spot as part of a 6-4 singles campaign. Wilson was even more effective as a doubles competitor. The Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, native posted a squad-best 12-6 mark while competing with several different partners. Wilson teamed up with then-senior Madison DuBrock to place third in the PAC Championships at numberthree doubles.
Juniors Heidi Evans and Danielle Juzwick saw limited court time as sophomores, but will have ample opportunities to pick up matches as juniors. Seniors Hannah Hixon, Amanda Hooker and Nikki Williams will all aim to make

Senior Emily McDonold is another experienced competitor that will be looked upon to lead both on and off the court. She posted a 7-8 doubles record, mostly at the number-two position, and notched four singles victories at several solo spots this past fall. Waynesburg will need to rely heavily on a combination of newcomers and mostly untested returners to help make up for the graduation of four experienced and productive seniors.
Senior Rachel Wilson placed third at number-three doubles during last year’s PAC Championships. She also went 6-4 as a singles competitor in 2014.

2014 SEASON RECAP
www.waynesburgsports.com
The 2014 Waynesburg University women’s tennis team posted the program’s secondstraight double-digit win total after going 10-5 overall and 4-4 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play. The Yellow Jackets ended the regular season in fifth place in the conference standings, before taking sixth in the annual PAC Championship Tournament at Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pennsylvania. Waynesburg sprinted out of the gates by winning five of its first six matches to open the fall schedule. The Jackets were also strong down the stretch run of the season, claiming victory in three of the final four contests prior to the conference championships. One of those victories was a thrilling 5-4 triumph over Division II Alderson Broaddus. As has been the case in each of her three years with the program, Rachel Klemash led the Jackets as their number-one single player and one-half of their number-one doubles team. Klemash went 8-5 in the top solo spot, and teamed with senior Alyssa Daniel to post an 8-6 record at number-one doubles.

The McDonald, Pennsylvania, native picked up Waynesburg’s biggest individual honor of 2014 when she was named PAC Player of the Week. Klemash was recognized after going a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles play during a flawless 3-0 week for the Orange and Black. Along Klemash enjoying a stellar junior season, the bulk of the Yellow Jackets’ production came from an outstanding senior class. Lauren Cowden, Daniel, Madison DuBrock and Ellen Limback combined to go 26-26 in singles play and 27-21 in doubles competition. Junior Rachel Wilson made her mark with the Jackets by going 6-3 at three different spots in the singles lineup. She also posted a 10-6 mark in doubles action, mostly as one half of the team’s number-three doubles pair. The Waynesburg women also continued their tradition of academic excellence as four of their own were listed on the PAC Fall Academic Honor Roll. Cowden, Daniel, Limback and junior Emily McDonold all received the applause.

PAC OVERVIEW The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), built on the basic belief that an athletic program is an integral part of college life, but not an entity in itself, looks back on sixty years of growth and ahead to years of continued academic and athletic excellence. The league’s name clearly reflects its founding principle that operational control of all aspects of intercollegiate athletics is ultimately the responsibility of the presidents of each member institution, and thus active presidential leadership and oversight is paramount in conference administration. Formally organized in 1955 by Western Reserve University, John Carroll University, Case Institute of Technology, and Wayne State University, the PAC was the result of a realization that college athletics, despite numerous virtues for the individual and the institution, were gradually becoming a financial and academic burden. If athletics were to be continued, action had to be taken to place the program on its proper level. This included the premise that benefits of participation should be provided to as many students as possible. The PAC and its membership continue its original, defining mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Institutions involved understand that the key components to its progress lie in the foundation of faith in each member by each other member. It is the conviction of its membership that the PAC is the solution to the dilemma of intercollegiate athletic competition, and they have staked their athletic future on this premise. Currently comprised of 10 select private institutions – Bethany College, Chatham University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Thomas More College, Washington & Jefferson College, Waynesburg University and Westminster College – the PAC remains a unique organization in this day of high pressure intercollegiate athletics, with academics at the center of each member’s philosophy. The PAC expanded its membership to seven members in 2005 with the addition of Thomas More, formerly a NCAA Division III independent. Saint Vincent, a former NAIA member, joined the conference in 2006 as it began its reclassification to NCAA Division III status. Another former NAIA member, Geneva, became the conference’s ninth member and began league play in 2007 as it started its NCAA Division III reclassification. Chatham became the league’s 10th member, also in 2007. In 2012, the PAC Presidents’ Council voted to add Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve University as affiliate members in the sport of football beginning with the 2014 season. The PAC crowns league champions and awards all-conference honors in its 21 championship sports. Head coaches determine all-PAC squads for all team sports, while in individual sports, such as cross country and tennis, all-PAC accolades are based upon performances at the conference championships. In addition to its 21 sponsored championship sports, the PAC partnered with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) to create the single-sport Ohio River Lacrosse Conferences (ORLC & ORWLC) in 2014, with both kicking off league schedules during the spring of 2015. The PAC, which recently celebrated its 60th anniversary, annually awards its men’s and women’s All-Sports Trophies to the schools which perform best across the board in PAC competition. The Waynesburg men and Grove City women captured the 2014-15 trophies. Staying true to its original mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence, the PAC has seen nearly 200 of its participating student-athletes recognized as Academic All-Americans, while the league has also produced numerous NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winners. Last year, the conference named 935 of its student-athletes to the PAC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all participating student-athletes who earn a term grade-point average of 3.60 or above. During the 2014-15 academic year, nine PAC student-athletes were honored with Capital One Academic All-America honors. Also, the Thomas More women’s basketball program and W&J junior wrestler Nick Carr claimed NCAA Division III national championships in their respective sports.
