TALK OF THE TOWN Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our third pre-season game down here at the Red Industries Stadium. Today we welcome Chasetown to our ground having made the short trip along the M6. Chasetown used to be regular visitors in the League and Cup but recently have switched to the Midland section so It will be nice to meet up again. We have had two entertaining pre-season games down here against Salford and Stafford and I am sure that today will make it three. It will be our last game down here for a while as we have been drawn away in the FA Cup to A F C Wulfrunians from Wolverhampton with that game taking place on Saturday 6th August with the replay if required down here on Tuesday 9th August KO 7.45 pm. The winners of the tie will be at home in the Preliminary Round to Coventry Sphinx or Be worth United a fortnight later. In the Isuzu FA Trophy Castle has been drawn at home to Spalding United who will be making the long trip from Lincolnshire with the winners away to Kempston Rivers (whom we beat in last season's FA Trophy) or Dereham Town. The Youth Team has a bye in the FA Trophy before taking on Bilston Town down here at the Red Industries Stadium. Town will have an interesting start to their League campaign, to say the least starting with a home game on the 13th of August against Witton Albion and a local derby away to Hanley Town on the following Tuesday. If you then add a home derby against Kidsgrove Athletic and another home game against last season's losing play-off finalists Runcorn Linnets with an away game against Macclesfield in the opening eight League fixtures together with the FA Cup ties it promises to be an exciting start to the new season.
Newcastle Town Half Term Soccer School The holiday soccer school at Newcastle Town is a great way for football mad children to play football all day during the school holidays. In the mornings the children are split into age groups and take part in skills and technical practices. In the afternoons the children play tournaments and competitions such as the champions league and world cup. The club is suitable for boys and girls added 4-12 and is open to children who play for Newcastle Town as well as children who play for other clubs and children that don’t play for teams.

View from the Dugout Today we welcome Chasetown to the Red Industries stadium in what will be our fifth game this pre-season. This will be a good test today against a strong Chasetown side that narrowly missed out on promotion last season, which hopefully will be a good spectacle for the fans in the anticipated warm temperatures. We have had another two games completed in the last week versus Stafford Rangers and Foley Meir, which were both competitive games for the players and again supported the lads in the continuing buildup of their fitness levels. We now know our first league game of the season will be against Witton Albion here at the Red Industries stadium after our game in the FA Cup versus AFC Wulfurians so we will be looking to gear things up accordingly in readiness for the start of the season which is now less than three weeks away. Hope you all enjoy the match, our hospitality, and facilities today and have a great afternoon with us.

CHAIRMAN CHATS With Gavin Appleby A warm welcome today to Chasetown FC who join us for our latest pre-season friendly. Our attendances have been very promising for our first two pre-season games and hopefully, today will be no different. I am pleased to confirm that with the support of life long Town fan and President Jim Blakeman, the board has commissioned the renovation of the clubhouse toilets. I am sure you will agree that these are indeed in need of a revamp and this decision will meet everyone’s approval. Work should start over the next few weeks. Another project that has been complete over the Summer is the revamp of the club's Boardroom. It needed some TLC and is now a room to proudly invite our opposition guests and visitors into. With the permission of the family, we are delighted that this will be called the Colin Spencer Boardroom dedicated to our former groundsman, who spent many happy hours in that room. His family will today help to officially open the renovated room. I fondly remember getting to the stadium at around 8 am, and by the time you had walked down to the boardroom, ‘Col’ had spotted you on the cameras and made a pot of tea, ready to discuss the ins and outs of the club he loved. I hope in the next few weeks to bring you further news on how we plan to honor our former Chairman Paul Ratcliffe who passed away earlier this year. All the best to both teams for today's match. Come on the Castle!

NEWCASTLE TOWN VS STAFFORD RANGERS Report with Chris Sweetman
A spirited Newcastle Town slipped to a 2-0 defeat to side Stafford Rangers in a game dominated by free kicks. The first half was a close fought affair, with Newcastle doing well to disrupt the Northern Premier Division side’s rhythm. However, Stafford went ahead on 39 minutes, with Kaiman Anderson finishing a sweeping move. Stafford changed all their outfield players and their kit for the second half, and Newcastle tried to take advantage early on. However, the half was littered with petty fouls, with both sides conceding 22 free kicks between them. Inevitably, a free kick gave Stafford their second goal on 64 minutes, as a trialist finished an efficient passing sequence. Although Newcastle pushed hard for a goal, Stafford held firm, giving Town their first blank of pre-season.

WELCOME CHASETOWN FC RECENT HISTORY iThe club was formed in 1954 as Chase Terrace Old Scholars Youth Club and initially played in the Cannock Youth League. At the start of the 1958–59 season the club joined the Lichfield and District League, where the club spent three seasons, finishing as runners-up in the league and Challenge Cup. For the 1961–62 season the club stepped up to the Staffordshire County League before moving to the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One and adopting the new name of Chasetown F.C. in 1972. In eleven seasons in this division Chasetown never finished outside the top four, winning the championship in 1977–78, but were prevented from gaining promotion because they were playing on a park pitch at Burntwood Recreation Centre. In 1983 the club moved to a new ground, The Scholars Ground, and gained entry to the Premier Division. Although the Scholars initially struggled to finish outside the lower reaches of the table, the team won their first trophy in 1989– 90, defeating Oldbury United to win the League Cup, soon followed by winning the Walsall Senior Cup. Chasetown beat Blakenall at the Bescot Stadium and retained the trophy in 1992–93, beating Pelsall Villa 3–1. In the early 1990s, Chasetown won the West Midlands League Cup twice and finishing as runnersup in the twice. The Scholars were among the founder members of the newly formed Midland Football Alliance in 1994 but failed to make an impression in the early seasons. In 2000–01 the club in a transitional period after the departure of long-serving manager Mervyn Rowe, and only escaped relegation due to the fact that no clubs were promoted from the lower division. Charlie Blakemore returned to the club in partnership with Michael Rowe, son of previous manager Mervyn, and the club's fortunes began to turn around, with two top-half finishes. In Blakemore's first full season in complete control of the first team, 2004–05, Chasetown won the Walsall Senior Cup for the third time and finished second to Rushall Olympic in the Midland Alliance. Chasetown were placed the national spotlight in November 2005 when the club reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history. After defeating Blyth Spartans the team took on Oldham Athletic in a match broadcast live on television. A peak audience of 3.2 million people watched the game live.[2] In front of 1,997 supporters, Chasetown took the lead through Nicky Harrison, only for veteran David Eyres to level the scores and send the game into a replay. Chasetown took 2,436 supporters to the replay but succumbed to a 0–4 defeat. As a result of this cup run the club was able to secure a shirt sponsorship deal with Richard Branson's Virgin Holidays for the 2006–07 season.
Meanwhile, in the league, Chasetown rallied from 14th place at Christmas, 20 points behind leaders Malvern Town, to win the Midland Alliance championship and gain promotion to the Southern League Division One Midlands. In 2007–08, Chasetown beat Team Bath 2–0 to reach the second round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in their history. This set up an away tie against Staffordshire rivals Port Vale, which they drew 1–1 before winning the replay 1–0 to set up a Third Round match at home to Championship side Cardiff City and making Chasetown the lowest ranked club ever to make the third round of the competition. While Chasetown lost the third round match to Cardiff City 3–1, they went ahead because of a Kevin McNaughton own goal, and held the lead until just before half-time.[3] As a result of playing the F.A Cup tie in 2008, Cardiff City invited Chasetown to be the first official opponent at the Cardiff City Stadium, played on Friday 10 July, resulting in a 4–0 win for the Welsh side. On 1 May 2010, Chasetown won the Northern Premier League Division One South play-offs, beating Glapwell 1–0 in front of a crowd of 1,265 to gain promotion to level 7 of the English football league system for the first time in their history. On 16 November 2010 Chasetown won a £10,000 Makeover Competition from the Northern Premier League, winning a £10,000 voucher from Travis Perkins builders' merchants to improve facilities at the Scholars Ground. On 14 December 2010 Chasetown beat Kettering Town 2–1 in an FA Trophy replay, another cup upset as two divisions separated the sides and Kettering were at home. On 15 January 2011 Chasetown produced another upset by defeating Conference National side Grimsby Town to reach the last sixteen of the competition. In the last sixteen they defeated Eastleigh of Conference South to gain a place in the quarter finals. In the 2012/13 season they finished 5th to grab the last play-off spot over Sutton Coldfield Town F.C.and Halesowen Town F.C. on goal difference and on may 6th 2013 Chasetown beat Leicestershire side Coalville Town F.C. in the semi finals of the 8th tier play-offs to go to the final where they lost to 4th place Stamford A.F.C. (by a score of 2-1) who got promoted with Kings Lynn F.C. from Norfolk who in 2022 are now in the national league (the fifth tier of English football). In the 2017/18 season for the second time they managed to grab a 5th place play-off spot on the last day of the season over the team they lost to in the final 4 years earlier, Stamford A.F.C. who got the last spot over Leek town F.C. and went on to draw Bedworth United F.C. in the semi finals where they lost 2-1 again. In the 2021-22 season after the coronavirus pandemic, they made the highest ever support at a league match against winners of the northern premier Ilkeston Town F.C. in a 1-0 win over the Derby team with a last minute header, with the attendance of 1,404 . They also reached the 1st round of the FA Cup but lost to Hanley Town F.C. from Derby. After being as high as second in that same season in the league, they finished 4th due to a draw and drew third place Halesowen Town F.C. in the semi finals of the playoffs for a 3rd time in 9 years. They one 1-0 with an 89th minute goal to reach the final against where they set the second highest attendance at the scholars ground ever against yet another Derby side Belper Town F.C. with over 2,300 fans attending the game (500 Belper fans). Despite such a good season, they lost the game 1-0 with a Kyle Perry shot cleared of the line and a possible penalty shout for Chasetown. The side from Derby had a goal from inside the box deflect of a Chasetown defender and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to get the only goal of the game in the second half. Belper then joined Ilkeston Town F.C. to make it delight in the double Derby promotion.

CALLUM PARKER
This past week Shaun caught up with Callum Parker who joined us this summer to see how he is doing and to get to know a little more about him. Callum welcome to Newcastle Town, for those who might not know you just tell us a little about yourself, where you have played before, and what type of player you are. I have been at Nantwich town for as long as I’ve known football really, I started there when I was 8 and worked my way up through the years until I was 16 when I broke into the first team, I scored on my debut which was a great moment too, I’ve played with some top players. I can play anywhere across the front three, I’d say I’m a quick player and can use both feet, I have a natural hunger to score goals and can’t wait to get my first for Castle. What piece of advice do you think has been the best that you have been given about your game during your time playing. Just believe in my own ability really, do what I do well and goals will come. Just believe in myself and the rest will happen. Confidence is key. Very true mate, So the move to Castle from Nantwich what was it that made you think yeah i this is a good and right move for me, and how have you found your time with us so far in pre season. I received a call from Robin and everything he told me on the phone felt right, he asked for me to meet him at the club to have a look round and another chat, and I just really liked the feel of what the club want to do and how they want to move forward, he believes in young players which is also great and I thought it’s a great opportunity. pre season has been tough, I went on holiday for two weeks so I’ve had a lot of catching up to do, but Robin, Nige and grovesy have put me through my paces to catch up and I’m feeling good. We do have a excellent crop of young players here which is very much a positive for the direction of the club, but have the guys asked you yet for a song choice for the dressing room playlist and if they have what have you selected. They haven’t asked me yet for my song choice, however I do love my hip hop/ rap so it would be a song by Dave, he’s great. New one on me there, not sure he is on the pub jukebox however I do keep saying they need to update the playlists. So looking ahead, what are you hopefull of getting out for your first season here at Castle, have you set yourself any targets for the season ahead. I haven’t set myself any so called targets as I think goals and assists will come with the game I play, I’m just really looking to show everyone what I can do and reward the people who have shown belief in me bringing me into the club.

Time for the random questions that someone like me at the bar would normally ask. If you could play in a team with any player past or present day who would it be and why I’d probably say Wayne Rooney, he was just incredible when I was growing up. If you were not playing football at the weekends what would you most likely be doing. I’m an Everton fan unfortunately, so probably watching them lose, or I do enjoy a round of golf. And if you walked into the pub with the team are you the person at the front getting the round in for all straight off the bat, in the middle waiting see what happens or the guy at the back who has no idea what's going on. I’m probably one that’s waiting to see what happens, making sure the footy is on the tv wherever we go, however when I’m asked to get the round in I’m straight on it.
Many thanks to Callum for his time this week and we wish you the best, next round at the bar is with ? find out soon
