Good afternoon and welcome to this afternoon's Edward Case Cup fixture vs Cheadle Nomads.
Although the last time we faced each other the game finished 0 0, it was a highly entertaining game and I’m expecting more of the same. Looking at the league table you’d expect Cheadle to be one of the weaker sides in the league, but we found them to be one of the most hardworking and organised sides we have faced this season so far.
We are coming off back to back defeats for the first time this season. Injuries are becoming a huge problem within the squad at the minute. I have to give special thanks to our physio Laura who is working overtime to try and get the lads back to fitness. The squ has been but I’m still enough quality availab next round.
Thank you for your con

Cheadle Heath Nomads
Cheadle Heath Nomads was formed in 1919, immediately after the First World War The club is, therefore approaching its centenary. A photograph of the team around that time shows a bizarre combination of ages was necessary to get a team together and for obvious reasons.
With the war over a group of individuals (Messrs. Sanderson, Bentley, Hopwood, Hulme, Johnson, Taylor and Nuttall) began a fund raising project to raise £1000 (some money in those days) to buy the piece of land 'on the other side of the bridge' in Cheadle (as opposed to Cheadle Heath!) to create a sports club for the area and in 1921 the club opened with Cheadle Heath Nomads at its core, although it also provided facilities for Cricket, Tennis and Ladies' Hockey.
The gentlemen named above became the first Trustees of the club and the club remains a Trusteeship, owning its own land with all the pros and cons that entails.
Nomads joined the Lancashire and Cheshire AFL and, after a brief break in 1927 stayed in the L&C until 1994.
The club struggled for money in the 1930's and even changed its club colours from green and yellow quarters to white. Every player had to bring his own white shirt! The colours changed again to claret and blue after the 2ndWorld War and they remain the club's colours today.
The club thrived immediately after the 2ndWorld War with some improvements in infrastructure with the erection of a Nissan hut with a bar etc. and the teams became hugely successful, especially in the early 1950's. Players at that time such as Doug Berry, Johnny Whittaker, Bob Stuart etc. became the backbone of the club for several years after they had finished playing!
Nomads had often contemplated moving into the Mid Cheshire League (now The Cheshire League) but had been constrained by the presence of cricket with a corner of the football pitch forming part of the cricket outfield. With the demise of the cricket section (tennis and hockey had finished already) and success on the field a step up into the Mid Cheshire League was the obvious way to go.
The hard-working committee, based around Roy Welsh and Jim Hardie had been strengthened by the Gibbons family (George, Dave and John) and the club moved forward with confidence.
Winning the 2nd. Division in its first season, Nomads consolidated in the First Division until 2004 when it merged with Linotype F C. Linotype were in the same league (now The Cheshire League) but were having problems retaining the facilities at The Silver Wings Club in Timperley.
At the same time Nomads were struggling both on and off the field (Roy Welsh and George Gibbons holding the fort) and a merger of the two organisations made sense, especially as the committee would incorporate two grafters in Brian McGuinness and Jim Calderbank. Cheadle Heath Nomads became Linotype Cheadle Heath Nomads.
There then followed a generally satisfactory playing record until the Cheshire Football League championship was won in season 2013-14. Nomads has remained in the top echelons of the league since (coming 2nd, 5th. and 4th.)
Over the same period there were significant improvements to the playing surface and the facilities with the addition of new changing rooms, the erection of a 50 seater stand and a significant spend on improving the drainage, all with a view to moving into the NWCFL for season 2019/20
The re-structuring of the NWCFL for season 2018/19, however, provided an opportunity too good to miss whilst at the same time providing a significant challenge for a group of individuals to do two years work in one. George Gibbons (the same one), Steve Jenkins, Ian Taylor and Paul Farmer have put in a mountain of work and with Roy Welsh (the same one) steering the ship, especially financially, the club's facilities will soon include floodlights (by the start of the season), hard standing and new barriers, standing accommodation, spectator toilets etc. - and with more improvements to come.
It also provided an opportune time for the club to change its name back to the original Cheadle Heath Nomads F.C. in time for its centenary next year.

3-1 REPORTMATCH
Eccleshall travelled to Abbey Hey in Manchester with mounting injury problems. With strikers Anthony Malbon and Lucas Green-Birch already missing and Luke Lewis only fit enough for the bench, Jordan Benton and Callum Feeney were also unavailable. To make matters worse, Jordan Darlington pulled up in the warm-up and was replaced by George Woodroffe. Abbey Hey had new striker Darrhyl Mason making his debut. Their new striker had an early chance which Eagles keeper Aaron Woolrich watched go past the post. In the early stages, both sides were cancelling each other out but on 15 minutes, a mis-header by Aidan Blaise led to Mason running clear on goal but he was forced wide, and the chance was gone. There was uproar when Abbey’s Jake Dunford put in a bad lunging challenge on Lewis Dunn and earned a booking from referee Philbin. Blaise was keeping a tight rein on Mason and with 30 minutes gone, neither keeper had been seriously tested. Dunford had a shot blocked by Dunn before Mason headed just wide from a corner. The game needed a goal, and it came right on half time when a through ball saw Mason outpace Blaise before placing his shot wide of Woolrich to find the bottom corner of the net.

Eagles started on the front foot and an early chance saw Joel Bembo-Leta block out Louis Downs. Then, a neat Abbey move between Augustin Alvarez and Luke Hincks led to Dan Taylor clearing for a corner and Mason powered a header wide. Mark Groom came on for Woodroffe before Mitchell Glover had a free kick easily held by Abbey keeper Joe Lawton. Ryanjay Malbon had an effort from the left which was collected by Lawton. Manager Liam Kelly brought on Ben Chesters for Downs to try and pep up the attack. However, Eagles went 2-0 down on 78 minutes when the defence looked static to a through ball which found Jack Tuohy in the box and his low shot found the far corner via the post. The visitors now had a mountain to climb, and Lawton came out to whip the ball off Lucas Baker’s foot as he prepared to shoot. The home side put the game to bed on 84 minutes when Blaise miskicked the ball and Mason was left clear to slot the ball past Woolrich. Eagles hadn’t shown enough in front of goal during the game but in added time, Chesters back headed the ball to Malbon who lashed the ball past Lawton to make the scoreline a little more respectable. It was no more than a consolation.

Not a good day at the office for Eccleshall with the injury list proving to be an increasing problem for Liam Kelly. They won’t have time to dwell on this as they face Northern Premier League Midlands Division Sporting Khalsa in the Staffordshire FA Senior Cup on Tuesday evening at Pershall Park before meeting Cheadle Heath Nomads at home in the second round of the Edward Case Cup on Saturday.
Eagles: Woolrich, Woodroffe (Groom), Dunn, Flattley, Blaise, Taylor (Tomlin), Malbon, Hickman, Downs (Chesters), Glover, Baker. Unused sub: Lewis.

MATCH
Eccleshall began a run of three successive cup matches by facing Northern Premier League Midlands Division, Sporting Khalsa, at Pershall Park. With Liam Kelly unavailable, assistant manager Nathan Wilkes and coach Oz Rowley took charge of team affairs. New signing Harry Farnsworth from Kidsgrove Athletic came straight into the starting line-up in the face of a mounting injury list which wasn’t helped when Lucas Green-Birch had to withdraw from the game before the start after pulling up in the pre-match warm-up.
The visitors began at a fast pace, attacking the Eagles goal and went ahead after only eight minutes when Mark Groom fouled Toumani Sidibie in the box and referee Perkin pointed to the spot. Lewis Worsey tucked away the penalty past Eagles ‘keeper Alex Atton. Minutes later, Atton failed to claim the ball from a Sidibie challenge and Callum Feeney had to hack the ball away to safety. Khalsa continued to press forward and on 21 minutes went two up when Sidibie ran through and slotted the ball past Atton. The two-division difference between the two clubs was clearly evident as the half progressed and Worsey advanced and blazed over the bar. Eccleshall were finding it difficult to get back into the game and on 41 minutes, the visitors increased their lead when Lewis Archer received the ball just inside the box and fired past Atton. Worse was to follow three minutes later when Kieron Whittaker made it four as his powerful drive from outside the area gave Atton little chance. In reality, the match was already gone as the home team came off the pitch at the interval. Sporting Khalsa had looked a class above their North West Counties League opponents.
HT: Eccleshall 0 Sporting Khalsa 4
Eccleshall came out for the second half with little to lose and Louis Downs missed an early chance to pull a goal back. Minutes later, Ryanjay Malbon had another chance which went begging. Khalsa were still looking dangerous moving forward and Atton’s outstretched leg saved a certain fifth goal after a shot from Miracle Okafor. As the half progressed, Eccleshall’s injury woes continued as Groom and Feeney had to be substituted. The home side were now making a better game of it and used their full complement of substitutes before the end. They at least had the consolation of pulling a goal back on 82 minutes to make the scoreline a little more respectable. Malbon cut in from the left and his low pass across the six-yard box found Jordan Flattley and he had the easiest of chances to beat Khalsa keeper Raajan Gill at the back post.

Sporting Khalsa were full value for their win and deservedly progressed to the next round of the Senior Cup. The Eagles management team will now be hoping that some of their walking wounded will be fit for Saturday’s Edward Case Cup tie against Cheadle Heath Nomads at Pershall Park. In spite of their lowly league position, Cheadle gave the Eagles a tough match in the league fixture three weeks ago when the points were shared in an entertaining 0-0 draw.
Eagles: Atton, Tomlin, Dunn, Flattley, Groom, Feeney, Malbon, Farnsworth, Chesters, Downs, Woodroffe.
Subs (all used): Taylor, Johnson, Glover, Flanaghan, Hickman.
