Good afternoon and welcome to today's local derby against Foley Meir FC.
Don’t let the league table fool you. This will be a tough game against a side packed with ex eccy players who will no doubt be itching to prove a point. We were excellent in the return fixture winning the game 2-0 and I’ll be expecting us to dig deep and produce similar today.
It’s been a tough few days at the office with two really poor defensive displays by our standard. For months we prided ourselves on having one of, if not, the meanest defences in the league. Individual mistakes are proving costly at the minute and perhaps making the performances look worse than they actually are. The Wythenshawe game in particular on Wednesday night was a good example of being our own worst enemies, with all the goals we conceded being preventable as well as missing some really good chances to get ourselves back into it
Rest assured the lads will be going back to basics and we will look to put things right starting this afternoon. As I’ve said on many occasions to the boys, to pick up results in this league you have to be at your very best week in and week out.
Enjoy this afternoon's game and thank you for your continued support.

Proud members of
Foley Football Club was founded in 1947 by a group of friends and ex-servicemen from the Foley district of East Fenton, Stoke - onTrent.
Everbody interested in forming the football club had a collection and a replica of Arsenal's strip was purchased from the late Les Evans who had a shop in King Street, Longton. Les also donated two lace up "case balls" at the time to help the club along it's way. Les was well known through out the country in sporting circles and was a tremendous friend and benefactor to Foley Football Club who later became president of the club. His death in 1999 was a great loss not only to his family and Foley FC, but to sport in general.
Originally, the club was based in premises adjoining the Foley Arms pub in Fenton and players would use facillities at the Ebineezer Chapel in Carron Street , Fenton to change in prior to games at our first ground at "The Open Holes", Goldenhill Road, Fenton.
Foley Football Club moved to their present ground in Whitcombe Road, Meir, Stoke-on-Trent in 1982 thanks to first class management from the hard working committee members who have served the club over the years. Since 1982, Foley Football Club have spent in the region of £80,000.00 of it's own hard earned funds in bringing what was essentially a sloping field up to the standard of ground it is today.
In November 2001, we opened our prestigious purpose built permanent changing and hospitality facilities. The project was assisted by the Football Association's Football Foundation Grant Aid Scheme with a grant of six thousand pounds.
In February 2004, the club was proud to receive Football Association Charter Status.
The coming season see's two mini soccer teams, two junior teams an U18s team and the Foley 1sts all playing under the name of Foley Football Club playing in the following leagues:
Staffordshire County Senior Leauge, Division one
Staffordshire County Minor League Premier Division
Potteries Junior Youth League
Potteries Mini Soccer league.
2022 Foley Meir Fc gain promotion to step 6 with the NWCFL Division One South.

Eccleshall travelled to top-four Sandbach United hoping to build on Tuesday night’s win at Stockport Georgians. With Jordan Darlington injured, manager Liam Kelly drafted in new signing Matthew France and Ryan Malbon, returning from injury, was on the bench. Sandbach were quick out of the blocks and Niall Cope had an effort wide of the post before a Josh Oultram back-heel was collected by Eagles keeper Aaron Woolrich. A further effort by Liam Fitzpatrick was deflected for a corner by Oliver Hickman. On 27 minutes, the home side took the lead when Cope let fly from distance and his shot found the top corner, leaving Woolrich with little chance. In reply, a Jordan Flattley free kick was held by United’s keeper Eric Merner before a cross from the right was headed just wide with Woolrich beaten. On 37 minutes, Chris Boast ran clear after a superb through ball from Hickman caught out Rory Roberts and, although Merner saved his initial shot, he recovered to fire home. Unbelievably, he was flagged offside and even the home side didn’t appeal, but the goal was chalked off. Minutes later, Eagles were reduced to ten men when the referee’s assistant spotted an infringement by Hickman and, after consultation by referee Taylor, he was sent off. With half time approaching, Sandbach’s Stanley Tatters was well wide with a shot.
HT: Sandbach United 1 Eccleshall 0
Eccleshall’s task was made much harder when they went further behind on 49 minutes. Robbie Hatton ran clear and beat the diving Woolrich to find the net. Mitchell Glover was brought on for Lucas Green-Birch. On 58 minutes, it was 3-0 when Woolrich saved a shot with his leg, but it looped up and Oultram headed home the rebound. They almost added to the total when George West fired over. Malbon was brought on for Luke Lewis and quickly worked his way through on goal, but Merner held the effort. Eagles pulled one back on 64 minutes when Boast ran clear again only to be clattered by Merner – however, his shot had sufficient power to find the net, the keeper receiving a yellow card in the process. Max Raine and Joel Jones were brought on before Oultram forced a decent save from Woolrich. West and Oultram had further efforts as Sandbach were now attacking at will, the extra man proving to be decisive as Eagles were running out of steam. Sandbach got a fourth on 89 minutes when a corner from the left was deflected past Woolrich for an own goal. Eagles’ misery was complete in added time when sub Joshua Klein-Davies blasted the ball past Woolrich.
FT: Sandbach United 5 Eccleshall 1
This was a bad day at the office for Eccleshall, the real turning points being the first half disallowed goal by Boast – a clear error by the referee’s assistant, and the red card for Hickman. However, Kelly now has to lift his squad as they face second placed Wythenshawe Amateurs at Pershall Park on Wednesday evening. It doesn’t get any easier for Eagles.
Eagles: Woolrich, France, Dunn, Flattley (Raine), Blaise, Hickman, Lewis (Malbon), Stanton, Boast (Jones), Benton, Green-Birch (Glover).
Unused sub: Feeney
Referee: Mr Daniel Taylor
Attendance: 133
