We go into today's cup game full of confidence after a superb start to the season. 3 wins and 2 draws from 5 games in all competitions is a dream start and in truth, it should of been 5 wins from 5 with the chances we created in the games we only drew. We are now the only unbeaten side in the league but it’s important we don’t get complacent and take every game as it comes!

Last week against Stafford Town shows we will have to be at our very best every week to take home points as we went behind for the first time due to a poor start to the game. The standards in this group are high and we won’t let them drop as the season goes on.

Due to this weekends games falling on a bank holiday, we do have players missi ’d t it’ great chance to show the the squad as some player impress and stake a claim Enjoy this afternoons ga continued support.

Good afternoon and welcome to today's FA Vase game against Rugby Borough FC. I’m expecting a tough game today against a side who has started the season well.

Rugby Borough FC as it is now, began life in 1994 under the name of Rugby Town Junior Football Club, and it was the Junior club who masterminded the development of our home ground facilities at Kilsby Lane.

We look forward to visiting and meeting other clubs for the 2022/23 campaign. www.eccleshallfc.co.uk

The new season saw Borough win the Premier Division title, but promotion was denied because of a local planning decision delay, preventing us from meeting the ground standards required in the allocated timeframe. Although the 2019/20 and 20/21 seasons were curtailed by the pandemic there were some major changes going on behind the scenes, culminating in the Junior Boys and Girls, and Senior Men and Women’s sections unifying, and taking the name Rugby Borough Football Club. In 2022 Liam O`Neill was welcomed to the club to as Head of the Rugby Borough Academy of Football, with students aged from 16 to 19 playing, training and being educated at Kilsby Lane. This move has allowed the club to enter the U19 National Conference League, two U18 Midland Floodlit teams, an U19 MJPL Education team as well as an U21 team playing in the Midland Football League.

Borough fully focussed and ready for the 2021/22 season won the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division under the leadership of Dan Carter and Kiel Mullen, with the ground now up to standard, promotion to the Spartan South Midlands Division 1 and step 6 of the non-league pyramid was finally achieved. This also allowed entries into the FA Vase and FA Youth Cups.

WELCOME RUGBY BOROUGH FC

The forward vision of the club enabled Rugby Borough FC senior section to be set up in 2017/18 with the management team of Darran Tank, Ady Fuller and Danny Finlay, who between them had many years of non-league experience. After being accepted into the Leicestershire Senior League Division 1 we became champions in our very first season, and were promoted to the Premier Division for 2018/19

Stafford started the game the better of the two without creating any clear cut opportunities.

REPORTMATCH

Eccleshall started to grow into the game with some good football leading to frustration from Town skipper Kinsella who received the first yellow card of the game after 13 minutes. Eccleshall were just about edging the contest but again without creating too many chances.

Eccleshall No 9 Ant Malbon went close with a header from a corner and a couple of minutes later Lewis Dunn hit the bar with a cross cum shot. The woodwork was again rattled by Mitch glover with a deflected shot from twenty yards and it looked like the opening goal was coming for Eccleshall. However with pretty much the last kick of the first half Town’s Ryan Taylor notched to send Town into an undeserved half time lead.

1-1

Unbeaten Eccleshall made the short trip to Evans Park to take on our close rivals in the first local Derby of the season.

It was looking to be a hard fought 1-1 when in the last minute Stafford broke with the dangerous Scott only for the Eccie keeper Woolrich to pull off a stunning save to keep the scores level. Manager Liam Kelly was disappointed not to take three points but the unbeaten run continues and is the only one in the league so bring on the next match with Rugby Borough heading to Pershall Park in the FA Vase on Saturday 27th August with a 3pm KO.

Eccleshall started the second half with real purpose and from a Glover free kick into the box the Town keeper somehow tipped a Malbon header onto the bar to preserve the 1-0 lead. Tempers rose following a Glover foul for which he received a yellow and to add to Town’s frustration it was Glover who equalised from close range following a good move down the right hand side after 65 minutes. Eccleshall pushed for the winner with Ant Malbon heading wide when well placed and an off side goal chalked off after 80 minutes.
