May I start by first saying how good it is to be back in the dugout at this football club. Since being re appointed as first team manager at Eccleshall, I’ve been welcomed with open arms by all players, coaching staff and committee members. I can guarantee to all supporters that I will be doing everything I can to turn things around. This football club should not be in the current position that we find ourselves in, but the table doesn’t lie and I have a big job on my hands to install confidence and belief back into this group of players. The squad is currently far to big and after watching Tuesdays nights friendly against Redgate Clayton alongside the training sessions that we have done, I am now trimming it down to players I believe will buy into what I want to do here. I will be making additions in areas I feel we are short, but these will be players I know can improve the current group. Our opening run of fixtures couldn’t be more difficult and It will take a couple of games and sessions with the boys to implement my ideas and beliefs fully, but I promise that you’ll see a turn around in performances over the next few weeks. For those supporters that don’t know me, I like my sides to be hard working, well organised and with a clear identity (something that I think is lacking with this current group.). I don’t like egos or “bad eggs” in the dressing room, something that I don’t need to worry about with this group, and I’m a huge believer in that team spirt can play a key part in success. I also like to maximise the full use of the squad by rotating and keeping players fresh dependant on opponents. As I’ve said to the players, if they run through brick walls for me, I’ll do the same for them. I’d like to welcome a couple of additions to the backroom staff. Nathan Wilkes will be joining me as assistant manager. I’ve worked with Nathan before and his man management is as good as anyone's I’ve met. The work he does behind the scenes often goes unnoticed but will play a massive part in improving confidence in this group. Tom Farr is an extremely talented UEFA B coach who will be assisting me on match day as often as possible. Evans Ofori will be be club physio. Evans is already familiar with most of the group having played or worked with them previously. I’d like to keep goalkeeping coach Harry Pickering and first team coach Jake Robinson at the club as I think it’s important to make the most of their experience and quality.
A warm welcome to all management, players, committee member & supporters of Wythenshawe Amateurs this evening. A tough game lies ahead for us given Wythenshawes impressive start to the season but we will go into the game believing we can take a result.

Eccleshall FC There has been football in the town of Eccleshall for over 100 years but very little archive material is available from those early years. However, we do know that Eccleshall Football Club was reformed in 1971 with the team being made up of locals and staff from the Eccleshall Secondary School which also provided training and playing facilities. At that time, the club was called Eccleshall Old Boys Football Club. In 1974, the team won their first trophies; the Mid-Staffs 3rd Division Cup and were also runners-up in that division, gaining promotion to Division 2. Old Boys was dropped from the club’s name and in 1979 the first team joined the Staffordshire County League (North) and a third team was formed. In 1981, with the help of grants, fund raising and a loan, a four-acre field was purchased at Pershall. Then manager, Ted Dickinson, was the driving force behind the fund raising. In the same year, the first team moved into the Premier Division of the Staffordshire County League (North). Work began converting the field into a football ground. In 1982, a building was purchased from British Telecom and, with a lot of hard work over the next couple of years on the building, car park and pitch, Pershall Park, as it was christened, was ready. In the 1983-84 season, the first team won the Staffordshire County League Premier Division Championship, the Premier Division Cup and the May Bank Cup. During the 1989-90 season, the first team won the Staffordshire Senior League title and the 1990-91 season saw the club entering the FA Vase for the first time. In 1991-92, the club reached the FA Vase 2nd round having gone through all the preliminary stages but lost at home to Wisbech Town 2-0 in front of a then record crowd of 368. The first team fared well in the league in the mid to late 90’s, finishing 3rd (97-98), 6th (98-99), 2nd (99-00) and 3rd (00-01). Eccleshall reserves won the Staffordshire County League (North) in 1999-2000 moving to the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One (North) for the start of the following season. In the 2001-2002 season, the first team won the Springbank Vending Midland League Championship.
Eccleshall FC In 2002-2003 Eccleshall’s first team joined the North West Counties Football League after securing both the Springbank Vending Midland League title and Staffordshire FA Vase. In probably the most successful season in the club’s history, our second team were also Staffordshire County League champions and our Under 18s won the Sentinel Cup. For good measure, our Under 16s won the Staffordshire FA County Cup, the Mid-Staffordshire League Cup and the Sentinel Shield. Regarding the Sentinel competitions, the last time a club had won both trophies in the same season had been some twenty five years previously – a great achievement. The 2012-13 season marked the completion of 10 years in the North West Counties League and saw the club achieve its highest ever placing of sixth in Division 1. In 2017-18, our Under 17s had a very successful season, winning the Potteries Junior Youth League Cup, Staffordshire FA Youth Cup and finishing runners up in the league. Over the years since 1981-82, significant work has been undertaken to develop both the ground and the facilities to the required standard of the National League Pyramid which the club now enjoys. This includes enclosing the ground, the installation of floodlights, building a covered seated stand and pitch levelling. In 2019, a new toilet block was installed and previously the clubhouse was refurbished and upgraded with the addition of a treatment room and a security system. Prior to the 2018/19 season, a new kitchen and refreshments bar was added. For the 2021-22 season the team dugouts have been replaced and more spectator improvements made. Further developments to the ground are planned for the future. All of this has been achieved by a strong committee management team behind the scenes, a number of which have given many years of service to Eccleshall FC together with the addition of new members who are helping to take the club forward. The club has now added a number of junior teams as we look to develop a junior section. Our second pitch has been upgraded and improved to accommodate this. 2021 sees Eccleshall Football Club celebrate its 50th anniversary and, as can be seen from the above, much has been achieved over that time. We look forward to seeing what the future brings. We consider ourselves a friendly club and look forward to welcoming you to Pershall Park in the future and hope you will enjoy the facilities and the football.

Welcome to Wythenshawe AFC Originally founded in 1946 as Wythenshawe Lads' Club by Reg Gauntlet, a local window cleaner, gathering together a group of kids kicking a ball about in the street, started playing friendlies, held meetings with parents in a wooden hut in the grounds of Cringlewood House, Yew Tree Lane. They then set up home by hiring a room in an old farmhouse in Daine Avenue, Rackhouse. A couple of years later Noel Timpson, Timpson Shoes, purchased two exWW2 Nissen huts and sited them within the farmhouse grounds. Wythenshawe, their first kit being White shirts, Black shorts, Black socks, first manager Bob Collins, progressed through the Manchester Federation of Lads' Clubs League 1946-49. In 1949 as the lads grew into maturity and no longer eligible for Lads Club football Harry Dalton developed them into 'The Ammies', managed by Jim Cooper, to provide football for all ages. Dalton was a Sheffield Wednesday supporter hence the Ammies Royal Blue & White striped kit. They became members of the South Manchester and Wythenshawe League 1949-53 racing through the lower divisions, top goalscorer being Bob Halliday with an incredible 72 goals in season 1951-52, before securing the First Division Championship in 1953. They then entered the Altrincham and District League 1953-54. In 1956 Wythenshawe played Manchester United, including Bobby Charlton, in the Altrincham District FA - Whitaker Cup Final. This was a great day for Wythenshawe because not only did they hold a very talented United team to a draw but according to press reports at the time were quite as good as their opponents. After two lots of extra time the score was 1-1, the cup was shared with each team holding it for six months. Climbing the football pyramid they were accepted into the Lancashire and Cheshire League 1954-72 winning the double in their first season, the Third Division 'A' and Hellawell Shield. Between 1955-57 they achieved the distinction of promotion in three successive seasons, 1955 Third Division 'A' champions, 1956 Third Division runner-up, 1957 Second Division champions. Also First Division champions 1962 and three time winners of the Rhodes Cup (1958, 1961, 1972). They established themselves in the Manchester League in 1972-73 season, winning automatic promotion to the Premier Division by becoming champions of the First Division in their first season, three time champions of the Premier Division (1990, 1993, 2003) runner-up ten times (1980, 1985, 1992, 1994, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2017, 2018) and record winners (7) of the Gilgryst Cup (1986, 1987, 1990, 1999, 2001, 2009, 2018) twice finalists (1980, 1988).
Welcome to Wythenshawe AFC Three time winners of the Lancashire Amateur Cup (1976, 1990, 1996) finalists six times (1982, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1994). The senior section alone have won over 50 trophies. Arguably one of their most successful seasons came in 1989-90 when the first team, managed by Ray Mallalieu, achieved the treble by winning the Lancashire Amateur Cup, Manchester League Premier and Gilgryst Cup, whilst the reserves added the second division title and the Sunday team winning the Wythenshawe and District Sunday League Challenge Cup. Although youth teams have sporadically existed since the Lads' Club days, In 1989 Stephen Hall and Jim Roberts formalised a Junior Section at the club, entering one team, Under 9’s, in the Timperley and District Junior League, this has grown and now have one of the largest Junior sections in the North West, currently having teams aged 5 to 18. In 2019 the youth team entered the FA Youth Cup for the first time. The club led a somewhat nomadic existence, playing their games at Cleveland playing fields 1946-49, Wythenshawe Park 1949-58, The Christie playing fields 1958-61, Federation of Lads' Club Ground Chorlton, later called Harry Dalton playing fields 1961-83, then in 1983 they became tenants at Wythenshawe Cricket Club, Longley Lane, albeit when the football and cricket seasons overlapped the club had to find alternative venues, Flixton FC 2015, St Paul's High School 2016-17, settling at Hollyhedge Park in 2017. From season 1967-68 the first team took part in the FA Amateur Cup, which in 1974 became the FA Vase, in 1985 they reached the 5th round narrowly losing 2-1 away to the eventual winners Halesowen Town. The previous round saw the Ammies win 6-0 at home to Rushall Olympic before its then largest attendance of 255, tenfold their average, and producing their first ever match programme. Due to a change to the FA's ground grading requirements in 1996 they were no longer eligible to enter the FA Vase, on top of that they could not seek promotion in the National League System from the Step 7 Manchester League to the Step 6 North West Counties League. Wythenshawe were not deterred by this setback and planning permission was granted by Manchester City Council in October 2007 to build a 150 seater floodlit stadium in Hollyhedge Park. Raising sufficient funds to build this facility, even to simply fence in the ground, was an on-going problem, being adversely affected by a recession.

Welcome to Wythenshawe AFC In 2009 a Ladies team was formed, managed by Paula Mercer, in 2011 became champions of Cheshire & Manchester Women's League Division Two East and runner-up of Division Two East League Cup, then transferring to the Cheshire Women’s & Youth League. In 2018 they finished runner-up in the CW&YL and promoted to the North West Women’s Regional League, also entering the Women's FA Cup for the first time, beating Accrington Stanley at home 5-1 in the preliminary round then bowing out in the 1st Qual.Rd v. Accrington Girls & Ladies at home 1-3 before the women's then record attendance of 142. In June 2011 the club changed its legal entity from an unincorporated association to that of a private limited company by guarantee, with charitable status. The company dissolved in November 2019. The Sunday team was reintroduced in 2012, managed by Paul O'Keefe, immediately winning the double in the Altrincham Sunday League 2013, they joined the Stockport Sunday League, becoming Division Four champions in 2015, Division Three champions in 2016 with 100% win record, latter two seasons scoring 359 goals. In July 2013 Committee member John Cotton noticed an article for a Budweiser £50,000 regional grant he felt the club could win, he passed the article to then Vice-Chairman Carl Barratt who took up the mantle. Fortune struck on Halloween that year, which changed the future of the club forever, when Barratt received the news that he was successful in winning the grant, this also enabled the club to compete against seven other clubs nationwide for an additional £100,000 in a public Facebook vote during February 2014, they obtained the most votes and secured the additional funds. The club in 2015 introduced the 'John Walker Tournament', an annual nationwide summer festival of football for children and youths aged 7-15, attracting over 100 teams with over 1,000 players. A further honour bestowed upon ‘Mr Wythenshawe Amateurs’ was the naming of the main stand ‘The John Walker Stand’ in 2020. The football and cricket clubs workable relationship, in its latter years, became strained and subsequently the Ammies were rendered homeless when evicted by the cricket club in May 2015 after 32 years use. The Hollyhedge Park Project was now, more than ever, an increasingly important chapter in the clubs future. Whilst the project was coming to fruition games were played at Flixton FC and St. Paul's High School, with hospitality at the Winston Conservative Club and Northenden Social Club.
Welcome to Wythenshawe AFC The penning of this crucial chapter recommenced in July 2016 when the club secured funding of £812,000, which included £382,317 from the Premier League & The FA, the £150,000 from Budweiser, £146,000 from the National Lottery, building work began in earnest in February 2017 for a clubhouse, new pitch, drainage, car park and fencing when a new long term lease was finally agreed with Manchester City Council. In March 2017 the club became a Community Benefit Society, its first Board of Directors being Basil Kabbani (Chairman), Carl Barratt (Vice-Chairman), Peter Andrews, John Cotton, Stuart Furnival, Ray Gibson, Stephen Hall, Neil Owen. The stadium was completed in September 2017, the first match was played on 30th, drawing 1-1 v. Hindsford in the Manchester League, the 32 year old record attendance was broken with 277. Further improvements brought the ground up to Step 6 standard and was officially opened on 6th May 2018 by former England & Manchester United captain Bryan Robson. Promotion was gained in May 2018 when the FA allocated the first team to a restructured North West Counties Football League. This meant that the club was competing at semiprofessional level for the first time, whilst retaining their amateur status they finished a creditable fourth in the First Division South in their first season. In 2019 the first team returned to the national stage when they re-entered the FA Vase. The following season 2020-21, they were accepted, for the first time, into the FA Cup, in the Extra Preliminary Round beat Shelley at home 4-2 in a memorable penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in 90 mins, exited in the Preliminary Round v. Trafford at home 1-4. With the curtailment of the season, caused by a coronavirus pandemic, Barratt created the Wythenshawe Cup, Cheadle Town the inaugural winners. The first team have never been relegated in its 75 year history.

MATCH REPORT New manager Liam Kelly faced a tough start in his first match as Eccleshall manager as they faced second placed New Mills at Church Lane. Aside from his new backroom team of Nathan Wilkes, Tom Farr and physio Evans Ofori, he included new signings Aaron Woolrich in goal, Brad Carr and the returning Tom Wakefield in his first squad. Eccleshall began attacking up the sloping pitch and made the worst possible start, going behind after six minutes. With the defence appealing for hand ball, Kyle Oakes was left clear and he rifled the ball past Woolrich into the far corner. Their luck didn’t get any better when, after ten minutes, skipper Harvey Collins went off injured and was replaced by Carr and then fifteen minutes after that, Jack Flanaghan also limped off to be replaced by Wakefield. When Jay Lovatt was pushed into the pitchside boards by the Millers Jack Wray, there was a melee in the bottom corner resulting in both Wray and Callum Feeney being cautioned. On 37 minutes, a low cross into the box found Oakes who put his shot just past the post. Wray then brought a good diving save out of Woolrich before the ball was cleared. As half time approached, home keeper Dylan Forth hadn’t had a save of note to make. Oakes again had another effort saved by Woolrich as the whistle went. HT: New Mills 1 Eccleshall 0 Wakefield had an early run before being tackled and then a long ball forward deceived Wray and left Carr clear but Millers’ skipper Mason Fallon cleared the danger. On 57 minutes the home side went two up when an Oakes shot came back off the bar and Millers’ sub Elliot Cooke fired past Woolrich into the corner of the net. This was followed by further efforts from Fallon and Darren McKnight. Samir Azam was brought on for Liam Tomlin but it was New Mills who continued attacking to add to their tally. Another cross found Teddy Osipitan and his downward header was held by Woolrich. However, on 75 minutes, it was 3-0. A cross from the left found Oakes who headed home into the far corner. On 81 minutes, Jack Dundas had a shot saved by the diving Forth. With five minutes to go, Lovatt had to go off injured. Having used all their subs, Eagles were left with ten men to see out the game. Right on full time, an overhead kick by Millers’ Richard Tindall was held by Woolrich. FT: New Mills 3 Eccleshall 0 This would not have been the start he would have wished for, but Liam Kelly will now be aware of the size of his task following this defeat. Clearly a striker who can put the ball in the net will be a priority, but he will be looking at other areas as well. With no scheduled game next Saturday due to FA Vase fixtures, he has a little time before the next programmed matches against highflyers Wythenshawe Amateurs and Abbey Hey, both at Pershall Park. Eagles remain in the bottom three after this defeat.
