w Good afternoon and welcome to this afternoon’s game against Ashville FC. Although new to the league, we saw in last week's cup game that Ashville are a great addition to this league and I think they’ll be one of the toughest sides we face this season We weren’t at our best last week but we still did enough to grind out a win and that’s exactly what cup football is about. The performance last week may have been acceptable in recent seasons but we’ve set ourselves the highest standards this season and will look to keep improving I couldn’t have been happier with the start we have made. 3 wins out of 3 in all competitions and in our last home game against Abbey Hulton, I thought we were tremendous. That was perhaps the best performance I’ve seen from any side I’ve managed over my two spells at the club. There’s a real good feeling around the club at the minute but we must stay grounded and keep taking each game as it comes. Our initial target is to beat last year's points tally and we will build from there. The lads on and off the pitch h management team, we won’t I’d like to finish today's note the kind sponsor of our matc you goes to Planned Office I of our warm up tops, ma advertising board Enjoy this afternoon's game Liam Kelly

In 2009/2010, Ashville Reserves defied the odds to win the Auto Focus Challenge Shield 1-0. In 2010-11 Ashville Secured Promotion back into the first divison as well as winning the Cheshire Amateur Cup and Howarth & Gallagher Bowl. After several years floating around the West Cheshire Football League, Ashville obtained their biggest achievement yet when they were promoted to the North West Counties Football League for the first time in their history. This was achieved after finishing as runners up of the West Cheshire League First Division and winning promotion to the NWCFL.
In the 1955-56 season Ashville were voted into the West Cheshire League Division Two, and in their first season won both the championship and the West Cheshire Bowl. In the following season they were promoted to Division One and amongst the honours collected at their Wallacre Park ground were the Wirral Amateur and Wirral Senior Cups. In 1962, Ashville moved to their present ground ‘Villa Park’, where they have had some success, notably the First division championship in the 1967-68 season and more recently the 1997/98 season, winning the coveted ‘Cheshire Amateur Cup’ whilst finishing a creditable Runner-Up in the Division One championship. In season 2002/03 having been re-instated in Division One after finishing in a relegation place the season before, they went on to win the Pyke Cup for the first time.
shville Football Club was founded in 1949, by John and Joyce Dennett from 25 Ashville Road Wallasey.
From that humble beginning they had immediate success in the Wallasey Youth League before progressing to the Bebington League in 1951. After winning the championship, Ashville moved to the Wirral Combination League and won the league for three consecutive seasons.

After two successive victories, Eccleshall hit the road to Wallasey to meet league newcomers Ashville in the first round of the Edward Case Cup. The home side had made a good start themselves and Eagles were anticipating a tough challenge. Manager Liam Kelly made five changes to the starting line-up from that against Abbey Hulton on Tuesday. Eagles conceded their first goal of the season on eight minutes when Ben Greenop volleyed home from a corner after the ball had been headed back across the box. Ashville continued to press and, two minutes later, a free kick by skipper Thomas Hartley beat Eagles keeper Alex Atton, hit the post and bounced clear. Eagles played their way back into the game and equalised on fifteen minutes when a cross into the box was volleyed into the net by Jack Flanaghan, giving home keeper Dylan O’Brien little chance. Ashville were looking threatening on the break, with pace down both flanks and had two penalty appeals turned down by referee Sefton on the space of ten minutes. Then a cross into the box by Ben Chesters was hacked clear by the home defence before an Anthony Malbon effort was easily collected by O’Brien. Ashville continued to press forward with half time approaching but the Eagles defence was holding firm.
HT: Ashville 1 Eccleshall 1 Ashville began the second half as they finished the first and an early shot by Liam Davies curled just over the bar. Atton then had to go down to collect a shot from Lewis Moynes. However, on 52 minutes, it was Eccleshall who took the lead. A ball from Luke Lewis found Malbon, who showed some skill in turning in the box before shooting low past O’Brien into the corner of the net. Soon later, a great cross-field ball by Malbon found Chesters who fired wide. Back came Ashville and, from a corner, Moynes blazed over. Flanaghan then beat three players but just failed to find Malbon as O’Brien came out. A free kick by sub James Sutton, just failed to find Mark Groom coming in at the back post before Atton was forced to punch clear from another Ashville attack. The home side continued to look for the equaliser and a cross to the back post was just headed over before Michael Reynolds had a chance collected by Atton. The Eagles defence managed to see out the game as the final whistle went.
FT: Ashville 1 Eccleshall 2 Ashville had provided a tough test for Eccleshall and will look to get a quick revenge as they travel to Pershall Park next Saturday in the league. Eagles reward for the win is a home tie against Cheadle Heath Nomads in the next round. However, they will look to continue their good early start to the league season and, with players returning, manager Kelly could have a selection headache for the weekend. This is probably the best start to a season for a while and Eagles supporters will be hoping it continues.
Referee: Mr Adam Sefton
