The Board would like to welcome you all to today's special tribute and Memorial for Paul Ratcliffe. We extend our warmest wishes to Paul's family, friends, and colleagues who also join us today to celebrate his life. It seems fitting that we hold this event today, as clubs up and down the Country celebrate national Non-League Day. It is indeed people like Paul who make and have made Nonleague so very special to so many for so many years. Therefore today, and future nonleague days at Newcastle Town will be devoted to the memory of Paul Ratcliffe and all that he helped this club achieve in his time as Chairman and a Director of the Club. It is with respect to that contribution and dedication to the club that we are delighted to announce that Paul’s wife Barbara Ratcliffe has agreed to become Life President of the club. Thank you Paul for everything you have done for this club, your legacy will live on at Newcastle Town. Now and forever. RIP. The Board of Directors

TALK OF THE TOWN Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our game down here at the Red Industries Stadium. Today we welcome Glossop North End who are making the trip from Derbyshire to be with us and we wish them an enjoyable visit and a safe journey home. It has been a sad week down here at Newcastle when we said goodbye to our Chairman Paul Ratcliffe last Thursday. There was a good turnout to say our farewells and thanks to the man who in recent years has played a major part in the development of the Club. Hopefully we can continue his legacy under the leadership of Gavin Appleby who has taken over as Chairman - a word of warning Gav, Paul will be watching from above. We brought a point back from Mossley last Saturday following a 2-2 but how Mossley snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat with two goals in injury time having not looked like scoring for 90 minutes defied belief. We started without Luke Dennis who was ill and then soon lost skipper James Askey through injury but a reorganised defence dominated. One of the stars of the defence was Ellis Jones who has joined us for a month on Work Experience from Port Vale and looks a good acquisition (let's not forget Mike Conlon and Connor Russo at full backs and Lewis Harman who moved to centre-back). Ellis' partner in crime from Port Vale Eden Bailey carried on from last week with a goal and there was also a good finish from Jack van der Laan (Man Of The Match) just look at the team sheet - a terrific all round team effort. There was success for our Under 18 Floodlit Cup winning 2-0 on penalties against Walsall Wood and now face Haughmond in the final at Kidsgrove Athletic on Monday 28th March. Hopefully we will have good support and bring back the Trophy again. We are at home again on Tuesday night when 1874 Northwich will be the visitors for the re-arranged fixture for the game that was postponed due to the storms. Kick - off is 7.45 pm. Hope you enjoy the game and a safe journey home.

Tributes to Paul The following tributes have been left for Paul, across our social media platforms as well as the Together in Memory page

Tinsdills Solicitors We are so sorry for your loss. Paul will be deeply missed by all. Shaun Rogers Mr Chairman, you will be missed by us all at the club, Thank you for everything you have done for me personally, a pleasure to know you Sir. Gavin Appleby RIP top man Have a drink with Col 💙 Geoff Ecclestone It has been a pleasure to work with a top chairman. RIP

View from the Dugout I would like to start by welcoming our late chairman’s wife Barbara Ratcliffe and family to today's game. Last Thursday, we had an opportunity to pay our respects and say goodbye to Paul Ratcliffe in a lovely service with lots of family and friends in attendance. We will miss you Paul, rest in peace. Today we host Glossop North End in another league game with 3 vital points at stake. Last Saturday was a huge disappointment after a very good away performance for 89 minutes we conceded 2 late goals in a game we were very comfortable in with a 2 goal lead and with chances to kill the game off with a third goal. We have to dust ourselves down and go again today as we don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves. We take a lot of confidence from our recent performances which have been good and have seen us pick up 4 points in 3 games. looking at the performance levels in these 3 games we could and perhaps should have picked up 7 points. Unfortunately, this has been the story of our season so far with some good performances and dominant spells in most games but the big moments seem to go against us which is something we are aware of and is a trend that we have to break by finishing teams off when we are on top. Glossop has pulled away from the fight to avoid 3rd from bottom with a good run of results which saw them win big games against teams in and around them which is something we will aim to do today. We like to give a warm welcome to Ellis Jones for his home debut today, Ellis who has joined us from port vale on loan had a solid game against Mossley last Saturday, and has been a good addition to our squad. Get behind the team today and enjoy the game.

GLOSSOP NORTH END Glossop North End were founded in 1886, when they played friendly amateur matches. They played at a variety of grounds, including Pyegrove, Silk Street, Water Lane and Cemetery Road before settling at North Road. The club joined the North Cheshire League in 1890, before moving to The Combination in 1894 and becoming a professional club. In their first season, 1894-95, in the Combination they were runnersup. After finishing third the following season, the club moved to the Midland League in the 1896-97 season, finishing as runners-up. After a second season in the league, they were elected to the Second Division of the Football League in 1898–99 finishing as runners-up and winning promotion to the First Division. They then changed their name to Glossop before spending their one and only season in the top flight, 1899–00 when they finished in last place and were relegated back to the Second Division. They then spent the next fifteen seasons in the Second Division, during which time they reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in 1908–09 where they lost to 1-0 to Bristol City in a replay on 10 March 1909. The club's chairman and benefactor at the time was Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, who was later to become chairman of Arsenal. However, the club struggled for several seasons in the Second Division. The 1913–14 season saw a club record attendance of 10,736 for an FA Cup second round match against Preston North End on 31 January 1914. However, the following season they finished bottom of the league and they failed to be re-elected. The start of World War I meant the Football League closed down. Glossop were re-formed toward the end of the war by Oswald Partington. Glossop then joined the Lancashire Combination, playing just one season, 1919-20. Northern Nomads ground-shared with Glossop for several years during this time. The club then dropped out of the Lancashire Combination and into the Manchester League. In the 1920s and 1930s they won the Gilgryst Cup three times and were crowned Manchester League champions in 1927-28. They won the Gilgryst Cup for a fourth time in 1947-48. In 1957 Glossop rejoined the Lancashire Combination, finishing in eighth in 1957-58. They spent nine seasons in the league before dropping back down once more to the Manchester League after the 1965-66 season. They joined the Cheshire County League as founder members of Division Two in the 1978-79 season, finishing in 17th. In 1980-81 they were Division Two runners-up, only losing out on the title on goal difference, but still winning promotion to Division One. After a sixth place finish in 198182, the club became founder members of the North West Counties Football League in 1982 when the Cheshire County League merged with the Lancashire Combination. In 1986, the club marked their centenary with a match with Arsenal. They joined Division One, however they struggled in the league for the next six seasons and after finishing bottom in 1987-88 were relegated to Division Two. The 1990-91 season saw the club reach the fourth round of the FA Vase where they lost to Cammell Laird 2-1 in a replay. They also won the North West Counties Football League Division Two Cup, beating Cheadle Town 2-1 in the final. However, the club almost folded in 1990-91 when their then Chairman sold the ground to the local council and left the club with large debts. The present Board of Directors took over in January 1991. After a sixth place finish in 1991-92 they were promoted back to Division One over higher-placed clubs and after the season the directors reverted the club's name back to Glossop North End. In their first season under the club's original name, 1992-93 they finished 16th in Division One. In the 1992-93 season, they reached the semi-finals of the North West Counties League Cup, before losing to Nantwich Town 5-2 over two legs. They reached the semi-finals of the league's Floodlit Cup in 1994-95 losing to Penrith 3-1 over two legs..

In the 1996-97 season they beat Trafford in the final of the Manchester Premier Cup at Old Trafford, before winning the competition again the following season, this time beating Radcliffe Borough in the final at Maine Road. They also reached the semi-finals of the North West Counties League Cup losing to Vauxhall Motors 3-1 over two legs. The 1999-2000 season saw the club reach the fourth round of the FA Vase where they lost to Chippenham Town 1-0. In the 2000-01 season they won the Derbyshire County Football Association Senior Challenge Cup beating Glapwell in a two-legged final, drawing 3-3 away and 2-2 at home before winning 4-2 on penalties. In the league the club struggled to avoid relegation from Division One throughout much of the early 2000s, before finishing ninth in 2006-07, the highest position attained by manager Chris Nicholson in his six seasons at the club. The highlight of the season was a four match FA Cup run. In the extra preliminary round they beat North Shields 2-0, then after a 2-1 home win over Seaham Red Star they were drawn against local rivals New Mills in the first qualifying round, a match which Glossop led 1-0 at half time, only for the Millers to equalise with ten minutes to go. Glossop then quickly regained the lead, before adding a third to win 3-1 in front of a season highest crowd of 430. Nicholson had announced in March 2007 that he was to step down at the end of the season following confirmation of his emigration to Perth, Australia. As a result the vacancy was advertised and his assistant Steve Young was eventually appointed manager for 2007-08. In 2007-08 North End made excellent strides on the pitch, finishing in seventh, which might have been fifth but for a last game defeat at the hands of champions Trafford. It took a while for the team to gel, which led to early cup exits at Malvern Town in the FA Cup and Coventry Sphinx in the FA Vase. However, they hit their stride in early November, including a run of wins that propelled them up the league. Darren Hamilton who scored 21 goals during the season, and who had been at the club for ten years, won the Supporters Player of the year award. In the 2008-09 season they reached the final of the FA Vase where they lost 2-0 to Northern League First Division side Whitley Bay at Wembley Stadium, on May 10, 2009. Due to this achievement, Arsenal, with whom they retain connections due to Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood's grandfather Sir Samuel Hill-Wood having owned and bankrolled Glossop during their run in the Football League, invited them to their state-of-the-art London Colney training ground during their stay in London, to prepare for the FA Vase final. In April 2011 Glossop parted company with their manager Steve Young and while assistant Terry Hincks took charge as caretaker until the end of the season the search started for a long term successor. 24 May 2011 saw Paul Colgan appointed as the new manager. Following a review of the future direction of the club, in mid December 2012, the Directors announced that there was to be some changes in the management of the footballing side of the organisation and the club parted ways with manager Paul Colgan and announced the appointment of Paul Williams and Garry Brown to the position of joint managers. However at the end of the 2012-13 season both left the club. In late May 2013 the club appointed Chris Willcock as first team manager. In his first season the team finished third in the North West Counties League which is the highest position ever in that league, and the highest position in any league since the 1980-81 season when Glossop were in the Cheshire County League. During the season Glossop succeeded in producing an unbeaten run in the league of 22 games without a loss, with only 5 draws along the way. This run stretched from 5 November 2013 until they were finally beaten by Bootle on 8 April 2014. The 2014-15 season was the most successful season in the Hillmen's recent history. On 19 April Glossop beat Nelson FC to confirm their North West Counties League Premier Division champions title. They also reached two cup finals.

On 4 April they reached the final of the North West Counties League Cup by beating Bootle 2-1. There they faced Atherton Collieries, on 30 April at the Tameside Stadium, where they completed the league 'double' by winning 2-0 in front of a crowd of 1012. On 28 March they also reached the FA Vase final by beating St Austell over two legs 2-1 where their opponents were Northern League First Division side North Shields at Wembley Stadium, on 9 May 2015. Sadly, Glossop were beaten by the North Eastern team 2-1 after extra time. Glossop began the 2015–16 season in the Northern Premier League Division One North. They also competed in the FA Trophy for the first time since 1986. The club finished fourth and qualified for the playoffs but lost 2–1 to Northwich Victoria in the semi final. At the end of the 2016-17 season Chris Wilcock resigned as manager, leaving the position after 4 seasons and as the winningest manager in recorded history. On 19 May 2017 the club announced that the joint team of Steve Halford and Paul Phillips would take the reins at Surrey Street. On 12 March 2018 the management team left Glossop to join Buxton. Goalkeeper coach Mark Canning took over as caretaker manager, assisted by Andy Bishop. This was made a permanent position at the end of the 2017–18 season. However, after a poor run of results, culminating in a loss to Widnes in mid October, Canning and Bishop were sacked. After a short search the board appointed ex-Mossley duo Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison as joint managers on 14 October 2018. The 2018-19 saw the Northern Premier League realign the leagues and Glossop were placed in the Northern Premier League Division One West. The season was a struggle for the new management due as they had to build a team from scratch, and it wasn't until late on in the season that Glossop found themselves safe from relegation. This was helped in part when Colwyn Bay announced they would be transferring back to the Welsh League. The league again decided to realign the leagues for the 2019-20 season, placing Glossop in a South East Division, meaning they would play teams such as Wisbech Town, Stamford and Spalding for the first time the The Hillmen's history. Glossop had a fairly successful season with all things taken into consideration seeing them hold a steady mid table position for a long stretch finishing in 14th place by the beginning of March. However in an unprecedented move the majority of football activities were ceased mid March 2020 due to the Corona virus, and by the end of March the NPL took the decision along with all step 4 and lower divisions to end the season early and expunge all results with no promotion or relegation taking place. With the 2019-20 season null and voided, the NPL's realignment to 3 Division One leagues did not take place at the start of the new season, leaving Glossop in the South East Division again. At the beginning of August Joint Manager Lloyd Morrison departed the club to become Cheadle Town's manager. The coronavirus took centre stage again in the 20/21 season, with only a handful of games being played before the season was cancelled in Feb 2021. This was followed in March 2021 by the resignation of manager Pete Band who left to join up with his hometown team Macclesfield FC. The new manager, Stuart Mellish, took charge at the beginning of May ready to start the 2021/22 season in the newly realigned Northern Premier League West Division.

2009/10 – a season never to forget Having finished runners-up on four occasions the season 2009-10 finally saw Newcastle reach the promised land of the Northern Premier League. Town opened their season with a 5-0 beating of Ramsbottom United at the Lyme Valley before going on an incredible 31 game unbeaten run with the only points dropped in a 1-1 home draw with Colne after 28 consecutive victories. Other teams that were in the League included Bootle, today’s visitors Glossop (who were one of only five teams to take points off Castle drawing 1-1 at the Lyme Valley), and Runcorn Linnets. There was a shock on the 13th March when Town were finally beaten going down 4-1 away at Bacup Borough with Castle’s only other defeat (2-1) coming at local rivals Congleton Town on Easter Monday. However, joy was not long in coming when Town clinched the title and promotion with a 2-0 home victory over Silsden just five days later with four games still to play. Town dropped their only other points away to runners-up New Mill in the last game of the season.

Castle had played 42 games and won 37 and drawn 3, losing only 2 for 114 points with a goal difference of exactly 100 (121-21). The top scorers were wing back Jordan Johnson who scored 42 in all competitions and forwards Neville Thompson 27 and Chris Budrys 24. That was not the end of Castle’s success as after beating Leek Town 4-0 at Leek and Chasetown 3-1 at home in the semi-final Town faced Port Vale at Vale Park in the final. Everyone was shocked by the result as Newcastle ran their opponents ragged and clinched the Trophy with an unbelievable 6-1 victory with Neville Thompson scoring a hat-trick. Paul’s legacy will live on after this and Greg Clowes’ team will never be forgotten.

We are pleased to announce that we will be planting a tree and two rose bushes at Roe Lane Playing Fields to celebrate the Queens Jubilee. The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is being celebrated in 2022 in the Commonwealth to mark the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952. Furthermore, we will be burying a time capsule at Roe Lane Playing Fields to celebrate our new 30-year lease on the site. We will be requesting items from each team to be donated and submitted into the capsule.
