● Wayzata Public Schools serves all or part of Corcoran, Maple Grove, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetonka, Orono, Plymouth and Wayzata. ● The district includes seven elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and one high school (9-12). ● The district’s community education department serves the learning needs of residents of all ages through a variety of programs and offerings. ● The projected enrollment for the 2010-11 school year is 10,246 students, which includes 4,538 elementary students, 2,392 middle school students and 3,316 high school students. ● The student body in our district, based on 2009-10 enrollment, includes the following: • White, not of Hispanic origin – 76.7 percent • Black, not of Hispanic origin – 9.3 percent • Asian or Pacific Islander – 10.7 percent • Hispanic – 2.9 percent • American Indian or Alaskan Native – .40 percent ● Other data on our students includes the following: • Percent of students receiving free/reduced lunch – 14.9 percent • Percent of students receiving special education services – 10.56 percent • Percent of English Language Learner students – 2.28 percent ● Wayzata Public Schools employs more than 1,400 employees including about 703 teaching positions. ● The district operates with a total revenue budget for the 2010-11 school year of more than $146.5 million, which includes about $116 million for the general operations of the schools.
Academic Achievements
● Greenwood Elementary School was named a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap. Greenwood is the fifth of the district’s seven elementary schools to be named a National Blue Ribbon School in the past four years. ● On the 2010 MCA IIs, 84.49 percent of Wayzata students were proficient in math and 89.74 percent were proficient in reading. ● Year after year, the average score of Wayzata students on the ACT exceeds both the state and national averages. For the 2009-10 school year, the average score of Wayzata students on the ACT was 25.5, with the state average at 22.9 and the national average at 21. Three students earned perfect scores.
