● Wayzata Public Schools serves all or part of Corcoran, Maple Grove, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetonka, Orono, Plymouth and Wayzata. ● The district includes seven elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and one high school (9-12). ● The district’s community education department serves the learning needs of residents of all ages through a variety of programs and offerings. ● The projected enrollment for the 2012-13 school year is 10,602 students, which includes 4,157 elementary students, 2,578 middle school students and 3,267 high school students. ● The student body in our district, based on 2011-12 enrollment, includes the following: • White, not of Hispanic origin – 77 percent • Black, not of Hispanic origin – 8 percent • Asian or Pacific Islander – 12 percent • Hispanic – 3 percent • American Indian or Alaskan Native – 0 percent ● Other data on our students includes the following: • Percent of students receiving free/reduced lunch – 15 percent • Percent of students receiving special education services – 8 percent • Percent of English Language Learner students – 2 percent ● Wayzata Public Schools employs more than 1,400 employees including about 719 teaching positions. ● The district operates with a total revenue budget for the 2012-13 school year of more than $159 million, which includes about $120 million for the general operations of the schools.
Academic Achievements
● Wayzata Public Schools is one of 367 districts in the nation, and one of 11 districts in Minnesota, honored by the College Board with a place on the second annual AP Honor Roll for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of three or higher on AP exams. ● West Middle School eighth grade math teacher Seth Brown received the 2011 Milken Award. He is one of a select few teachers honored nationally with the award. ● As part of the new Minnesota Department of Education Multiple Measurements Rating (MMR) system, Wayzata Public Schools has three identified “Reward” schools in 2012. Wayzata was one of only five districts statewide with three or more “Reward” schools. ● Wayzata Public Schools students continue to perform at very high levels on the Minnesota Department of Education accountability assessments (MCA, MCA-Mod, MTAS) with 91 percent of students proficient in reading and 84 percent proficient in math on 2011-12 state-mandated assessments. ● Year after year, the average score of Wayzata students on the ACT exceeds both the state and national averages. For the 2011-12 school year, the average score of Wayzata students on the ACT was 25.3, with the state average at 22.8 and the national average at 21.1.
