CASE STUDY: HIGH SCHOOL SIZE / ORGANIZATION CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL, CARMEL INDIANA 1. Student Population: 4,400 Students (one building)

2. Grades: 9-12

3. Graduation Rate (2009-2010): 95.32%

4. High School Staff: 400 (+)

5. Schedule: - “Block Eight” (4 block day with A/B days) 9:50 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. - 90 minute periods - Alternating schedule (every other day) blocks 1-4, 5-8 with one period of “SRT” (Student Resource Time) - 10 minute passing time

6. Building / Site - 55 Acres of land - Most recent addition was 182,000 SF (2005) for 3-story “Freshman Center”

7. “Freshman Center” Addition - 3 nearly identical floors (Houses) with similar course offerings. - Each “House” includes +/- 350 freshman. - All freshman lockers located in Freshman Center. - Counselors in Freshman Center. - Teachers focus on consistency for students, collaborative time and the availability of student support.

8. Timeline - 1995: Freshman students moved out of Junior Highs to the High School / Grade shift to 9-12 - 2005: Freshman Center completed.
