It’s that time of the school year where we begin to plan for next year while keeping students engaged for the last few weeks of school. Your child’s current teacher will carefully consider their classroom placement for next year. If you would like to have some input as to the placement of your child(ren) for the 2012-2013 school year, there are forms available online and in the school office. These forms are due back at Sunset Hill no later than May 25th. The form allows you to provide additional information on your child’s social and academic needs. There are many factors that are contemplated when placing students into classrooms. We consider balance, learning styles, special needs, student/teacher ratios, and staff input. Our goal is the best placement for your child, and we take this very seriously when planning for next year. We cannot honor requests for specific teachers. We will have many staffing changes for the fall. Sunset Hill is anticipating five classroom sections in grades K, 1 and 2. There will be four sections in third and fourth grade. Fifth grade will be reduced to three sections. Andrew Worth will be joining the fourth grade team. Beth Dikeman will join the third grade team. Sara Koskela and Adam Hinnenkamp will be joining the second grade team, and Janelle Barr will be joining the Kindergarten team. We have open positions in first and fifth grade. We say goodbye to Lesya Parekh, Liz Gilbertson and Vicki Hester, who will be retiring. Janette Wachs is moving with her family to Arizona. We are grateful for their contributions to the Sunset Hill Community. The Board of Education has approved the addition of four classrooms at Sunset Hill. We will do our best to keep parents informed of all the decisions. Construction is scheduled to begin in October!
Parents can pick up their Twins tickets during office hours next week. Any tickets not picked up will be sent home with the oldest child on Friday.

Message from the Media Center: Summer Reading Summer is almost here and that means lazy days full of fun and relaxation. It is also a great time to read! Research shows that reading just six books during the summer may keep a student from losing educational ground. That is why our media center will be open to students and their families one day a week during the summer. Watch for more information to come on dates and times. During media classes in the months of May and June, we will be discussing summer reading programs such as those offered through the Hennepin County Library and Barnes & Noble. We are also planning a school-wide summer reading event for our students at Sunset Hill , so stay tuned!
Thank you. Laurie Lindquist Media Specialist laurie.lindquist@wayzata.k12.mn.us
At the elementary schools, watch for the red stamp on your child’s hand. This is usually done when they have 3 meals or approximately $7.00 left in the account. If you are set up with PayPams.com – the Internet Payment site, your child’s balance is updated every evening on the site. You can set up email low balance reminders and check balances for no fee on the site. Your child may ask the cashier for the balance. Call the manager at the site and ask what your child’s balance is. Please do not call during lunchtime; they are busy serving lunch. If you call in the evening, leave a voice mail with your return phone number.
If you leave funds in your student’s lunch account over the summer it will be available in the fall when school opens. The money will transfer if the student is moving to a different building in the fall. Thank you for your cooperation as we finish out this school year.
