FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 28, 2014 Wayzata Public Schools Referendum Proposals Receive Positive Reviews from State The Wayzata Public Schools has received approval from the Minnesota Department of Education for the bond referendum and technology levy proposals that will be brought to school district voters on February 25, 2014. The Wayzata School Board voted unanimously to place the two school funding questions before voters after careful review of a wide range of options. The proposals are in response to unprecedented growth from new housing developments, increasingly larger classes moving from the middle schools to Wayzata High School and the recent addition of state-­‐funded, all-­‐day Kindergarten beginning in the fall of 2014. “Based upon the department’s analysis of the school district’s required documentation and other pertinent information from sources of the Minnesota Department of Education, the Commissioner of Education provides positive reviews and comments,” shared Commissioner Dr. Brenda Cassellius. Now that the state has provided its official approval of both proposals to address the district’s growing enrollment, the final step required before the district can proceed is voter approval on February 25, 2014. The two ballot questions: •

Question 1 requests $109.645 million in bond funding to expand Wayzata High School, build an eighth elementary school and upgrade safety, security and technology infrastructure districtwide. The monthly impact of the $109.645 million bond is $10 on the average home value ($333,900) in the school district.

Question 2 requests to renew the existing technology levy, which funds technology equipment and support districtwide with approximately $2.7 million annually for an
