ayzata Public Schools Community Education is proud to present the Spring 2013 session of WISHES Youth Enrichment. The WISHES Youth Enrichment program provides elementary students with fun after school enrichment opportunities that are designed to enhance your child’s educational experience, as well as stimulate new interests in hobbies and recreational activities. Please note the location of each class. WISHES classes will meet at multiple locations. Students may attend classes in any building. Transportation is NOT provided. When registering for a class please note the time to be sure it does not interfere with your child’s school day. Flip this catalog over to see a complete listing of our winter classes. Register early as many classes fill quickly! Please register at least one week in advance so that class enrollment decisions can be made.

Project Runway Riding Cape Grades 3-5 Fashion and flare collide in this mod rendition of a riding cape. Students will pick from various material patterns and create their own take-home, waist-length riding cape with sleeves and a bow. Brand new and returning sewers are invited. We keep it easy and accessible for all levels. Students will also make a sun glass case to keep their shades in tip-top shape. Students will learn how to pin, cut and sew patterns. They will learn multiple hand stitching and machine sewing techniques. Our focus is on safety, skills and sewing savoir faire. Computers & Technology Video Game Creation Nintendo Characters Grades 1-5 Create your own customized Video Game using Nintendo characters. Program your characters to move and interact with one another. Students will learn to change backgrounds, add audio effects, create a pong game, and other games. Working in pairs, students will create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programing language created just for students by the MIT Media Lab. The first part of each class will be instructor led. With the time remaining, students will be able to use different Nintendo characters such as Pokemon, Super Mario Brothers, Lego Star Wars, and Sonic the Hedgehog to create their video game animations. General Miscellaneous Babysitter Training Course - Red Cross Certified AGES 11+ This course is essential for any young person interested in babysitting! Students will learn about child development and handling emergencies, including rescue breathing, first aid, preventing accidents, safety, feeding, diapering and more. Leadership and the responsibilities of the babysitter, as well as the expectations of parents and the business of babysitting are also covered. Participants will receive a Red Cross certificate, a babysitter’s handbook, a CD Rom and a handy emergency guide. Please bring a nut-free lunch, snack and drink each day. Students should also bring a doll to class. Students must attend all classes in their entirety to receive the certificate. Quick Easy Dos for Hot Spring Days! Add a twist to your everyday hairdo, or help your daughter get ready for a beautiful, busy summer day by mastering easy-to-do dos! With the help of expert Great Clips staff, learn and practice easy up-dos, pony tails, french braids and regular braids. This is a great class for moms and dads who help their daughters with their daily dos! This class requires a buddy and you will register as an “adult/child pair.” One of you must have shoulder length hair or longer. Bring with you to class: comb, water bottle, pick, hand held mirror and pony tail holders. Science Explorers’ Sloppy, Ooey, Slimes! Grades 1-5 It’s time to get mixed-up in some ooey, gooey, slimy science! Join Science Explorers for experiments that are icky, sticky and sloppy. You will explore the properties of a polymer by making and experimenting with different slimes, including a slime that will glow. This class is more than hands-on’ it’s hands in! Fencing Team
Grades 2-5 Fencers will not only learn new techniques and polish existing techniques, they will get a chance to compete for the best in their class. New arm band levels will be awarded for those students who work hard to earn them! The in-class championship will take place this spring during class time. Parents can join the youth classes and get a great workout! Safety is our first priority. We supply safety swords, protective masks and jackets, and a high-octane, inclusive environment. For safety considerations, please wear long pants and athletic shoes. $79 for 6 classes; Youth Enrichment League
Grades 6-12 A TEAM champion will be crowned. Teams will compete in meets and the top four teams in the metro will meet for a championship playoff. Our fencing team’s focus is on developing competitors’ athletic skills, fencing knowledge, dexterity, speed and strength; all in an inclusive, team-first atmosphere.
