Tips on using the Karo Not Geo-coded Address List Practices have reported that addresses continue to reappear on their monthly “not-geocoded” lists, even when they think they have rectified the issue, and this could be for several reasons. The most common reasons an address doesn’t have a quintile are that either the address doesn’t have a quintile value, or the address has been recorded in the NHI incorrectly due to: • •
An incorrect address format being used (more detail below) Other providers have made changes in NHI
The following address formats will prevent addresses geocoding in the NHI: • • • •
CAPITAL LETTERS Extra words that are not part of the formal address: e.g. flat, apartment or business name Full stops Postal addresses (only residential addresses can provide a quintile code)
Please note: Karo lists shows addresses recorded in the NHI and can often give you a clue about why they are not geocoding.
Geocode process in the PMS versus NHI: Your PMS has eSAM that geocodes addresses, NHI then independently geocodes them again, this happens automatically when an address is updated but can also be run manually. An address change in NHI will not always prompt the PMS and NHI to need syncing again if the address is essentially the same. Therefore, you may have an address geocoded in your PMS but not geocoded in NHI due to an incorrect entry format. Please see our Medtech process to fix non geocoded addresses in the NHI . Another tool you have available to check the correct format of an address is NZ Post Address Finder: https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/address-postcode-finder As you type an address, known addresses will appear. These are the correct formats of the address and the only address formats that will produce a quintile value.
