Tip Sheet— Physical Wellbeing Improving or maintaining health and wellbeing is as simple as using the body for what it was designed for MOVEMENT!
Physical activity is any type of movement that involves large muscle groups.
Getting enough can improve physical and mental health and reduce the risk of illness and disease.
Get 30 minutes or more, of moderate intensity physical activity at least 5 days a week.
You will get even more benefit if you do some vigorous activity a few times a week as well. Moderate intensity activity will increase your breathing and heart rate, while vigorous activity will make you puff and you might not be able to hold a conversation. 3 x 10 minutes of physical activity a day is just as good for you as 1 x 30 minutes.
Reduce sitting time by getting up and moving every 20 minutes.
A short walk, for at least 2 minutes, can help circulation, reduce muscle tension, maintain mental focus and improve overall health.
Load your muscles with resistance-type exercise at least twice a week to maintain or improve posture, endurance, strength, bone density, lean muscle mass and metabolism.
Body weight exercises are good; you don’t need to join a gym.
Get enough sleep; about 7 hours is right for most people.
