The Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada celebrates history for women in Nevada as the founder, President and CEO, June L. Beland, On May 8, 2021 they will celebrate nineteen years supporting and helping women in Nevada. June moved to Las Vegas in 1994 after the Northridge earthquake, June and her husband were displaced by FEMA, the house was deemed unsafe and shifted the structure so they decided to buy a home and move to Las Vegas. It was hard her husband had to transfer his job and June had to make a decision as to what she would do about her publishing company, she was the owner and publisher of ABC Publishing and was the publisher a country music magazine on the newsstand all over California and Nashville, TN.
to do, she was influenced by the U.S. Chamber to start a much-needed Women’s Chamber for the state of Nevada. She had no chamber management background but was a business owner for years so they saw major potential for starting and becoming the President and CEO of the first State Women’s Chamber in Nevada history. The rest is history; today June also serves on two of her own boards, WCCNV Legacy Founder as Chairwoman, Scholarship Fund and WCCNV Government Affairs Council. June stated; as a business owner of 47 years and the last 19 years as the founder and president of Nevada Women’s Chamber of Commerce is what I am all about giving back and keeping very alert at my age, it’s a wonderful feeling giving back to others.
June, a member of the U.S. Chamber for years with her business put a call into the U.S. Chamber for advice what

Moving Forward - Getting Back to Business As we start to gradually get back to some normalcy with our Nevada State Women’s Chamber, our businesses and our personal lives we will have a transition period into some normalcy but this will take time and will not be the same nor done overnight. Some survived and others could not hang on as a small business or independent. As a women business owner since 1977 I have endured a lot in my journey in life, family and business like the major earthquake in CA in 1994, we lost everything personal and my business and decided to move to Las Vegas. Now 27 years later we experienced the Pandemic! I have never experienced anything this in my lifetime. There is a song called “I will Survive” and yes we all will survive. Our corporate members also hit very hard financially by COVID-19 which all of us know, we supported them by marketing their business.

Since I have a background in publishing magazines, I came up with a weekly digital newsletter WCCNV kept our member, our corporate partners and community with-minute-to-minute news on COVID-19, financial help, business resources for their businesses and personal lives. We also devoted out home page for all types our service and help links that was needed even today. Moving Forward and Getting Back to Business, our Board of Directors decided to reduce our rates for all our members, corporate and new members in 2021. Governor Steve Sisolak | REOPENING PLAN COVID-19 response efforts with Nevadans on a reopening plan
The timeline for Nevada’s “safe reopening” will begin Feb. 15 and go through May 1, according to the governor. He says statewide coronavirus trends are moving in the right direction and credits this momentum as the reason for the decision. “Vaccines have provided hope during the worst of this pandemic,” said Gov. Sisolak, whose remarks were also tweeted as he spoke. «Like the rest of the country, Nevada experienced multiple surges over the recent winter months, resulting in record-high numbers.» “The good news: we’ve also recently experienced positive progress in our COVID trends,” he said. He went on to share some of those trends: As of February 11: - test positivity rate over the last 14 days is 14.3% - average number of daily new cases over the last 14 days is 684 - Nevada Hospital Association reported Nevada is continuing to see a downward trajectory in hospitalizations RELATED: Nevada reports 37 new deaths, positivity rate continues to drop Below are some important dates related to the timeline. FEBRUARY 15 On Feb. 15 first-round capacity limits will be lifted at various levels based on the risk level of the activity or business-type identified by health experts. Here’s what’s moving to 35% capacity: • Places of worship • Gyms, fitness studios, yoga studios, martial arts studios, and similar establishment • Gaming floors • Arcades • racetracks • bowling alleys • pool halls and similar activities

The IRS Opens for Business and Urges Early Filing
It’s opening day at the Internal Revenue Service! The IRS officially opens tax season by accepting returns for processing on Friday, more than two weeks later than last year. The agency used the extra time to program and test its systems to account for economic impact payments from the December stimulus bill. “We are ready, positioned, and prepared to process as swiftly and accurately as possible,” said Ken Corbin, the IRS’ Chief Taxpayer Experience Officer, in a press conference Thursday. “We have a robust process to strength-test our system and have a number of IT [information technology] professionals and IRS personnel to work this week and weekend and holiday to monitor the system.” Individual tax returns this year may be complicated by pandemic-related items, such as stimulus checks, unemployment insurance, and work-from-home deductions. And Corbin said the IRS expects to process more than 150 million returns. To ensure a smooth process, he urged people to file early and offered some tips: • Gather all your documents. Most people should have already received their W-2 forms from employers and 1099 forms from other payers. • Choose electronic filing and direct deposit. “This is the year to file electronically,” Corbin said. “Electronic filing ensures that recent tax law is incorporated, and it is the safest way to file an accurate return and the quickest way to get a refund. If you file by paper, prepare for a lengthy wait due to slower mail times and working while social distancing at the processing sites.” • Refunds are expected to be issued in less than 21 MARCH | APRIL 2021
days from filing, but some may take longer. Check the status of your return with the IRS’ “Where’s My Refund?” tool 24 hours after it’s submitted. • If you claim the earned income tax credit or additional child tax credit, the IRS can’t issue your refund before Feb. 15. The delay, per the Protecting Americans From Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, gives the IRS time to stop fraudulent refunds from being paid to identity thieves. Your return information under “Where’s My Refund” will be updated by Feb. 22, and the IRS expects to deposit these refunds as soon as the first week of March. • Use online IRS tools whenever possible because the hotline is expected to be busy. • Since scammers are on the rise due to the pandemic, the IRS is offering everyone a 6-digit identity protection pin (IP Pin) only known to you and the IRS and valid for one year. • Deadline for tax filings is April 15 unless individuals file for an extension to Oct 15. Like you, the Nevada Department of Business and Industry is committed to helping all small businesses and entrepreneurs impacted by the pandemic. One way we do this is by connecting them with the right resources across the state via our Business Resource Center at www.business.nv.gov/ Resource_Center/Business_Resource_Center_New/.
hundreds of resource links, the Guide simplifies the process of learning about business requirements in Nevada, where to go, and whom to talk to. Among other things, the Guide’s Business Licensing topic includes a clickable state map to connect people to local and regional business resources.
Another way we do this is by offering two free information products that help orient people to the many business support resources and entities here in Nevada. These two products are available on our website to any interested party.
Graph resources
• The first product is the Guide to Starting and Growing a Business in Nevada (“The Road Map”), available at www. business.nv.gov/Resource_Center/Nevada_Business_Start_ Up_Guide/. The Guide is an interactive document for those looking to start or grow a business or who need help with business recovery following the pandemic. Simply download the file, open it while connected to the internet, and pointand-click to use. The Road Map serves as the table of contents. With information on 15 essential topics and
• The second product is the Nevada Business Support Ecosystem Chart, a one-page visual diagram focusing on conducting or doing business in Nevada and its dynamic and innovative support resources. It’s available at www. business.nv.gov/Resource_Center/Business_Support_ Ecosystem/. The Ecosystem Chart offers a high-level orientation to the categories of business resources available in the state. It highlights federal, state and local government resources, as well as private sector resources. View the chart as-is or download the file and click the text while connected to the internet (the names of entities are linked to their respective websites).
The above information products are intended to help existing and prospective Nevada business owners understand and navigate the state’s many business-support resources more quickly - something that is particularly important during these difficult times as people and businesses work toward recovery. We hope you will take advantage of these tools and consider making them available, if you have not done so already, by adding a link on your website to our Business Resource Center.
