COVID-19 Common questions What can I do to prevent the coronavirus disease at home?
Remind everyone in your household of the importance of practicing everyday preventive actions that can help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses: • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care. • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue. • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily (e.g., tables, counter tops, light switches, doorknobs, and cabinet handles) using a regular household detergent and water. How long does the coronavirus last on surfaces?
It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but it seems to behave like other coronaviruses. Studies suggest that coronaviruses (including preliminary information on the COVID-19 virus) may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days
How can I care for a family member with the coronavirus disease at home?
Avoid sharing personal items like food and drinks. Provide your sick household member with clean disposable face masks to wear at home, if available, to help prevent spreading COVID-19 to others. Clean the sick room and bathroom, as needed, to avoid unnecessary contact with the sick person.
What is the treatment for the coronavirus disease?
There is no specific treatment for disease caused by a novel coronavirus. However, many of the symptoms can be treated and therefore treatment based on the patient’s clinical condition.
What is the recovery time for the coronavirus disease?
Using available preliminary data, the median time from onset to clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately 2 weeks and is 3-6 weeks for patients with severe or critical disease
Can the coronavirus disease spread through food?
Current evidence on other coronavirus strains shows that while coronaviruses appear to be stable at low and freezing temperatures for a certain period, food hygiene and good food safety practices can prevent their transmission through food.
Who is most at risk for the coronavirus disease?
People of all ages can be infected by the new coronavirus (2019nCoV). Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus. WHO advises people of all ages to take steps to protect themselves from the virus, for example by following good hand hygiene and good respiratory hygiene?
How do you disinfect surfaces for the coronavirus disease? For disinfection, diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol, and most common EPAregistered household disinfectants should be effective

UPDATES from Washington, D.C.
As more municipalities around the US recommend or mandate that residents stay at home to try to slow the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19), online orders for grocery deliveries are soaring. During the week of March 2, even before several US regions imposed stricter social distancing rules in the past week, Instacart, Amazon, and Walmart’s grocery delivery services each saw at least a 65% sales increase compared to the same time last year, according to estimates from Earnest Research. Meanwhile, as more restaurants close their dining rooms, many people are also relying on meal deliveries from Apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates. March 22 - April 4, 2020
The federal tax-filing deadline has been postponed until July 15 as the nation struggles to contend with the coronavirus pandemic. The news came days after Mnuchin very publicly declared at a White House press conference that taxpayers would have to file by April 15, though they could put off paying any taxes they owed for up to 90 days after the deadline without incurring interest or being penalized. Now, according to Mnuchin’s latest statement, taxpayers can put off filing for up to 90 days as well. Mnuchin urged taxpayers who are expecting refunds still to file as soon as possible to get the money they’re owed. Weekly News Brief 3

Community Resources Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Food Assistance SNAP is a federally funded program designed to help low income families buy nutritious food from authorized retailers, also known as “Food Stamps.” Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Cash Assistance TANF is designed to provide temporary cash assistance for needy families to care for dependent children in their own homes or in the homes of relative caregivers. TANF provides financial and support services such as childcare, transportation, and other services to low income families with children. Medicaid - Medical Assistance The Medicaid Program is a federal program administered by the state. Its purpose is to help meet the cost of medical services for individuals receiving public assistance payments, and individuals and families with low income. Child Care Assistance The Child Care Program assists low-income families, families receiving temporary public assistance and those transitioning from public assistance in obtaining childcare so they can work. Other services include resource and referral for parents seeking childcare and consumer information on the aspects of quality childcare. Resource and referral services are available to all Nevada families at no cost. Energy Assistance (EAP) The “Energy Assistance Program” provides a supplement to assist qualifying low-income Nevadans with the cost of home energy. Applications are evaluated year-round or until funding is exhausted. Eligible households receive an annual, one-time per year benefit customarily paid directly to their energy provider(s). non-TANF families. They are 1) parent location; 2) establishing paternity for children born outside of marriage; 3) establishing financial and medical support orders; 4) enforcing support orders; and 5) collecting and distributing support payments. In providing these services, the birthrights of children are established, support is secured for children missing one or both parents, and the burden on Nevada taxpayers is reduced by offsetting the need for public assistance. • Website: • www.dwss.nv.gov/DWS • Apply for benefits: • www.accessnevada.dwss.nv.gov/public/landing-page • Reach our call center: • www.dwss.nv.gov/Contact/Welfare Self Employed For those who are self-employed and who have not formed a corporation and paid into Unemployment Insurance system: • If they have children under the age of 18, they are most likely eligible for and should file for TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) • If they have no children or their children are 18 or older, they are not eligible for TANF • For anyone who is now unemployed they can file for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: formerly known as food stamps) • For the self-employed individual the only proof of loss of income is self-attestation • They would make a statement to SNAP that as a result of COVID-19 their business was forced to close, and they are now unemployed • Individuals should also apply for Medicaid (healthcare assistance) at the same time, as Medicaid will continue for a time after they are able to return to work until they are back on their feet Registration website: www.dwss.nv.gov March 22 - April 4, 2020
Official News from the Office of the Governor Governor Sisolak Announces Distance Education Plan Approvals for 16 of 17 School Districts and All Charter Schools
CARSON CITY, NV Today, Governor Steve Sisolak announced that sixteen of Nevada’s seventeen school districts and all of Nevada’s charter schools submitted plans to the Nevada Department of Education and are approved to continue or start distance education as of Monday, March 23. The plans stem from an emergency directive signed by Gov. Sisolak on Friday, March 20. Many districts had proactively created plans and were able to submit them over the weekend to Nevada State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert. By having plans approved, schools will continue to receive payments from the State Distributive School Account and will not have to adjust the school calendar to make up for the missed time. “I want to express my strong appreciation for the leadership and hard work of the sixteen county school districts and the charter schools who stepped up in good faith under the authority of the directive to continue supporting and providing education to Nevada’s students, in coordination with the Nevada State Superintendent Jhone Ebert,” said Governor Sisolak. “We are all operating under challenging circumstances, and I am proud of our educators for coming together to find creative solutions to ensure students can continue learning despite school closures.” The emergency directive provided that schools will reopen no earlier than April 16 as a necessary step to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. It also suspended state testing requirements, consistent with the U.S. Department of Education approval on Friday of the request submitted by State Superintendent Ebert for a waiver of federal assessments, accountability, school identification, and reporting requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.
