The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) today announced a final rule that allows employers to offer bonuses or other incentivebased pay to employees whose hours vary from week to week. The rule revises the regulation for computing overtime compensation for salaried, non-exempt employees who work hours that vary each week (i.e., a fluctuating workweek) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It also clarifies that bonuses, premium payments, commissions, and hazard pay on top of fixed salaries are compatible with the
fluctuating workweek method of compensation, and that employers must include supplemental payments when calculating the regular rate of pay as appropriate under the FLSA. The final rule includes examples and minor revisions to make the rule easier to understand. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was available for public comment for 30 days. The Department received approximately 36 comments on the proposal, all of which are available to the public at www.regulations.gov.
For more information about the Final Rule, please visit www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/overtime/fww

Gov. Sisolak appoints new State of Nevada COVID-19 Response Director
Nevada Governor’s Office CARSON CITY — Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Monday that Caleb Cage is appointed to serve as the State of Nevada COVID-19 Response Director. “Mr. Cage has proven invaluable to the State in its effort to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. This new, expanded role will help propel the State of Nevada forward as we continue our gradual, phased-in reopening and fortify our response to this unprecedented public health crisis,” said Gov. Honoring our Senior Citizens During Older American’s Month “May” twitter.com/Three Square works with a service network of more than 1,400 community partners to reach struggling individuals and families at risk for hunger. hashtag/NationalOlderAmericansMonth?src=hash May is Older Americans Month, a time for us to recognize and honor the contributions that senior citizens have made, whether professionally or personally, to create our community. At the RTC, we honor our seniors through dedicated transportation services like Silver STAR that connects senior living communities to essential services. And when Nevada was directed to stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, we partnered with Three Square to deliver 300 meals each week to homebound seniors. In fact, we were recently awarded nearly $80,000 in emergency grant funding to help Three Square continue to deliver nutritious food to clients through the Senior Hunger Program. So take a moment to check in and thank the special seniors in your life – the coworker who helps make your day at work a little easier; the grocery store clerk who recognizes you every time you shop; the neighbor who doesn’t have family nearby; or your parent who has supported you since day one.
How we are helping older adults who are facing hunger Our Senior Hunger Programs provide food-insecure older adults (60 and better) with healthy, supplemental groceries including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. The program is found around the valley through senior-only pantries, home delivery and a community meal. Community Meal Programs Seniors and their spouses can receive a hot, nutritious free meal at two locations: New Beginnings Ministries Address: 2200 E. Cheyenne Ave., Building C, North Las Vegas, NV 89030 Hours: Monday–Friday from 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. (with the exception of holidays) Anyone under the age of 60 is welcome to enjoy a meal for $3. For transportation, please contact Elder Thompson at (702) 854-8612. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10047 Address: 4347 N. Las Vegas Blvd., North Las Vegas, NV 89115 Hours: Every Thursday from 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. (with the exception of holidays) Participants can come socialize with friends and family, play games and get connected to community resources. Guests may attend if at least one person in the party is over 60. Seniors Eating Well This nine-week evidence-based program is intended to improve the health status and nutrition of older adults. Participants receive a binder and class materials, as well as food and giveaway items at each class. This program is currently being offered at senior centers, libraries and senior apartment complexes throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Long-term services These services are offered when seniors call the Three Square Center at (702) 765-4030. They can get connected with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Energy Assistance Program, Project Reach, Medicare Savings Program, Medicare Part D extra help or Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), Medicaid and other long-term services through Nevada Senior Services. 2020 UNLV GRADUATION & COVID-19 In a “normal” year, we would celebrate commencement today, welcoming more than 3,100 students and their families to the Thomas & Mack, who would cheer and take photos as a dream was realized. But we all know this is not a normal year and we continue to adjust. I look forward to celebrating the spring Class of 2020 and our Outstanding Graduates in person, as soon as we can. We shared a video message with our newest alumni to let them know we are celebrating them today. I have never been more proud to be part of this university. Our students, faculty, and staff have stepped up and are actively involved in responding to this crisis in our community. From curbside testing to supporting contact tracing, from making key test kit components to fabricating personal protective equipment, from offering vital mental health care services to launching the $1 million Lee Prize to fuel the innovative re-entry of the hospitality and gaming industries, UNLV is at the forefront. We are all deeply committed to the critical role we play in this state’s response and its economic recovery.
While the last several months have been challenging in ways we could not have imagined, I want to highlight a few remarkable accomplishments this academic year – lest we forget in the midst of this pandemic. There is far too much to list, so below are a just a few milestones: Our Medical School earned its provisional accreditation and we welcomed a new dean. Conceptual renderings for a new medical education building to be funded by a generous group of donors were just recently released. We celebrated the opening of Black Fire Innovation and christened the first innovation building in the UNLV Harry Reid Research & Technology Park. The Boyd School of Law and the Harrah College of Hospitality is becoming the leading source for education and innovation related to tribal gaming operations and law, thanks to a $9 million gift from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. University Libraries will establish its first named position - a rare books curator - and bolster its rare books collection, made possible by a $5 million endowment from alumna Beverly Rogers. The UNLV Immigration Clinic’s University Legal Services expanded its services through a partnership with the College of Southern Nevada to assist its students, faculty, staff, and their families. We marked 10 years of the Engelstad Scholars Program, which has impacted more than 200 students’ lives and contributed nearly 45,000 hours of community service through local nonprofits. Our students won prestigious national fellowships and prepared to compete as one of 11 teams selected for the U.S. Department of Energy 2020 Solar Decathlon. UNLV earned the Carnegie Foundation’s Community Engagement distinction, just more than a year from when we earned the Carnegie R1 “very high research activity” status. We could not have achieved such extraordinary milestones without you. Thank you for your unwavering support and your belief in this university and its people. I am very proud of our UNLV family, and I hope you are too.
