June L. BelandPublisher of CW | President and CEO | Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada
Dear Members & Readers, The Women’s Chamber is celebrating its 20th year anniversary, with members and major corporations who have supported the State Women’s Chamber since May 8, 2002. As its Founder, and CEO, it has been a wonderful journey and I want to share a little of our history.
History: The Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada (WCCNV) was founded in 2002 and is Official Nevada State Women’s Chamber in the state’s 158-year history. I am also the owner ABC Publishing since 1982.
Early 2002 I was introduced to the idea of starting a Women’s State chamber for Nevada by the U.S. Chamber, who I have been a member of for over 40 years. What most people do not know is I invested my own money to maintain the chamber for the first five years until the membership gave the Chamber financial stability and with the help of my own company ABC Publishing©. We are able to raise extra dues revenue.
I also used my publishing company to promote our Bi-Monthly Chamber Business Journal© to help market our members and give them a platform in the media in Las Vegas and Nevada (About local and state news, chamber membership, relocation and visitors’ section).
As the official State Women’s Chamber for Nevada, we are non-partisan and do not endorse candidates. We have no political affiliation, nor do we have a PAC. We support women in all areas of business ownership or careers. We also support all diversity in business and local, state and federal offices. Our Government Affair Council Director is Ms. Anita Laruy, who has served 40 years in legal and government arena.
As the CEO of WCCNV, I am always promoting all diversity Chambers of Commerce within the State of Nevada. We work with all 45 state chambers in the US, and email our publications to thousands of city chambers as well.

A retired Vice President as community development officer for Wells Fargo Bank after serving twenty-seven (27) years, Eloiza Martinez has held many position during her banking career. Her initial inception was at First Western Savings Bank, where she survived several mergers ending with Wells Fargo Bank in 1996. Prior to entering the banking industry, Eloiza worked for and retired from the financial institution by name of Commercial Credit Corporation based out of Baltimore, Maryland; employed from 1964 through 1984(retired).
Eloiza has always had a niche in teaching the underserved and made herself available to show and provide them the basics of financial education. She has served and donated her time in very positive leadership positions such as the Board President for the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, President for Habitat for Humanity, President for the Neighbor Hood Housing Services of North Las Vegas. This was a pleasure for her to be able to promote giving a second chance to individuals who have had no guidance or maybe the opportunity to have a strong mentor to guide them in the right direction. Since Eloiza has retired, she continues her efforts in the community with participation with four non-profit organizations; it is where her heart and need is.

Women’s Chamber of Commerce Presents
9th Annual ATHENA International Women's Leadership Day Luncheon
Where Women Meet and Mentor
Inviting Emerging and Established Leaders to Lunch
Supporting, Honoring and Developing Women Leaders
Las Vegas, NV [10/1/22] The Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada will host it’s 9th Annual ATHENA International Women’s Leadership Day Luncheon, a ‘meet and mentor’ program designed to connect emerging and established women leaders in our community with a Chamber member mini business expo The ATHENA International Women’s Leadership Day Luncheon will take place on October 28, 2022 at The Orleans Hotel & Casino, from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mistress of Ceremonies, Amie Jo Greer, Singer, Songwriter, Media Personality, Philanthropist and Author.
The premise of this program is simple: an established woman leader inviting emerging women leaders as their guest to dine, meet other women leaders, and share ideas about leadership. It goes beyond a networking event to provide an intimate forum for established and emerging women leaders to make meaningful and lasting connections with one another, bridging the gap.
ATHENA International Women's Leadership Day was created by ATHENA Award® Recipient and Board Chair Norma Rist to give back to a larger community of women and girls and encourage women leaders to extend a hand to one another. A key component of the program is its incorporation of the ATHENA Leadership Model “Today, in more ways and places than at any other time in human history, women are leaders. But what’s important isn’t just that women lead, what’s important is how women lead —let’s recognize this ‘women’s way’ for what it is: a distinctive, transforming approach to leadership. It goes beyond gender to speak to all who would lead in the 21st century,” says Martha Mertz, ATHENA International founder and author of Becoming ATHENA: Eight Principles for Enlightened Leadership.
This year’s lineup of speakers will be: Mistress of Ceremonies Amie Jo Greer, Founder and President of Corner4Success; Opening Speakers, June Beland, Founder, President and CEO of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada© and the WCCNV Legacy Foundation©; Keynote Speaker, Jan Jones Blackhurst of Caesars Entertainment Board Member.; Empowerment Speaker, Shelly Berkley, CEO & Senior Provost - Touro University and Inspirational Speaker, Karen Rubel, CEO of Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Here in Nevada, the majority of our state's fastestgrowing job fields require STEM-prepared graduates. The obvious solution is for universities like UNLV to expand academic programs in the sciences and engineering to meet the need. But it’s not that simple.
Many students with a passion and aptitude for STEMrelated career paths face hurdles early on in their college careers – from struggles with math concepts to a lack of mentors – that can prevent their STEM dreams from gaining steam.
At UNLV, we’re engaged in two different NSF-supported projects that bridge math skills and mentorship gaps to
make STEM career paths more accessible and achievable for our students. I invite you to read more about these innovative programs, one that incorporates elements of online and video games into classroom learning and another that combines scholarships with mentorship and career-focused “soft skills” building to increase retention.
In higher education, we’re focused, and rightly so, on delivering high-demand degree programs for the 21st century economy. As we do this, we're concurrently building support mechanisms to ensure that any student with a passion for STEM, regardless of their circumstance, has the opportunity to succeed.
