Dear Visitors, Readers and Nevada Business Community, On behalf of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada and the Board of Directors and Executive Board, thank you for your understanding with the multiple changes we had to make(personal and business lives). When Nevada REOPENED NEVADA July 1, 2021 most everyone (not all) wears a mask for face-to-face in large crowds (but not mandatory). When attending meetings or in-person events masks are optional. Our 2021 ATHENA International Awards held on 10-22-21 all attendees will be required to wear a mask to enter Lawry's, but optional within our event. The chamber like other organizations and businesses are allowed to have in person board meetings, live workshops, so we have scheduled our Specialty Luncheons, Mixers and Business Educational meetings starting in January 2022. From September 2021 through December 2021 we will continue with our meetings and awards. This year is our 10th year working with the Las Vegas Firefighters Burn Unit "Christmas Toy Drive" where every year firefighters bring children toys to the hospital for Christmas. On a special note: For the balance of this year, the chamber will have in person meetings, luncheons and will continue our publications. This issue of our digital Chamber Bi-Weekly News Brief© is for the General public and members (we always promote our members). Our Chamber Bi-Monthly Business Journal© issue November/December 2021 issue (a women's chamber members publication) celebrating our Chambers 19th Anniversary. Our quarterly Women In Power Business Magazine© recognizing our Nevada women and a national woman cover story. We are raising advertising revenue through our WCCNV Legacy Foundation, for our student scholarships. During the pandemic through 2021 we were unable to raise any money, so they need us more than ever. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from all our publications goes to our student scholarship fund through our WCCNV Legacy Foundation. We also have donations other ways: Sponsorships, online advertising, sponsors for the publications or chamber membership – call Marie at the chamber (702) 733-3955 M-F or email her at marie@womenschamberofnevada.org. The 2021 ATHENA® International Awards is our last big event of the year. The food bank will continue food distributions at Eastside Cannery each Friday through September 24th Three Square Food Distributions at Duncan Elementary School in North Las Vegas
How can I help Three Square the most?
Monetary donations provide the greatest benefit; we have buying power that allows us to do more with $1 than you might when you go to the store to purchase canned goods for a food drive. For every $1 donated, Three Square is able to distribute three meals. Even if you have committed to holding a food drive, please consider the option of adding a fund drive or virtual food drive. Many individuals would rather write a tax-deductible check or make a donation online rather than picking up extra food at the grocery store for the food drive. Trailblazers of The New Normal
Since 1977, WIF has held an annual event celebrating women who are making a critical impact on the entertainment industry. Due to the pandemic, we have not been able to gather in person since 2019, but we are thrilled to announce that on October 6 we will be together for WIF Honors: Trailblazers of The New Normal at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. This new format honors women who are working together to reimagine a workplace where people support each other with compassion, innovation, and a renewed commitment to equity across intersectional identities. The WIF Crystal Award will be presented to Marlee Matlin and Siân Heder, for setting a new precedent for representation and accessibility in front of and behind the camera with their film CODA; to Zendaya and Ashley Levinson, for disrupting the imbalanced traditional systems of compensation and ownership with the shared equity model of their film MALCOLM & MARIE; and to Jean Smart and Hannah
Einbinder, for their performances on “Hacks” that bring to light issues WIF has been addressing for decades: sexism, ageism, and harassment in the entertainment industry. “We are honoring these pairs of women with the Crystal Award to reflect the collective effort it takes to transform this industry into one that rewards equality and succeeds as it becomes more inclusive. Even in the most difficult of times, these women have taken steps forward towards a more ideal future.” — Kirsten Schaffer, WIF Executive Director. Read more about the WIF Honors at The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline. Thanks to our sponsors Max Mara, ShivHans Pictures, Lexus, Apple TV+, Google and STARZ who make our work possible. For information about how your company or organization can participate in supporting WIF at the event, contact Director of Development Courtney LaBarge Bell.
