Message from the Founder, President and CEO

June L. Beland Women’s Chamber Turns “20” with a Year Long Celebration in 2022 As a Women’s not-for-profit organization, the Official State Women’s Chamber in Nevada’s 157-year history, we are devoted to empowering and improving the quality of life for women in the state of Nevada by providing the resources, education, counseling and coaching, access to capital, and an active network of women to help achieve business and professional success. Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada® was established on May 8, 2002 and continues to promote more than 500+ members. However, we need to reach out to the other 37,600 women entrepreneurs, 9,700 women in executive/ management positions in Nevada and ask them to register with the Women’s Chamber, this will ensure our ability in building a strong coalition to get the help women need and get laws passed to help women succeed. The total population of Nevada is estimated at 3.2 million, ranks 33rd populous state in US. Nevada is the seventh largest state with 110,577 square miles (286,382 sq km) in the United States with 1,426,793 male and 1,412,306 female. Women residents in Nevada make up 57% of the population and 90% of the buying power and decision making. We already made history in 2002 as the first Women’s State Chamber to ever be established in the 157-year history in Nevada which is a major accomplishment for the Women’s Chamber and all the women in the state of Nevada.

Mission & Vision

As the official State Women’s Chamber, within the Union of the United States of America, we have a big role to play in supporting all levels of young girls to women i.e., high school students, interns, college students, employees, women in top positions, small-to-large businesses, corporate executives, government employees, women in Entertainment and Media plus all women in the workforce. Our efforts are on creating an economic community for women in Nevada through entrepreneurship, empowerment, education, training, mentoring, leadership programs, business networking, financial, grants, scholarships, business loans, job opportunities, women certification, community partnerships and alliances. We continue to promote growth, diversity in economic development of women and minority women, and to achieve the integration of women into leadership roles. We also make sure all our voices are heard in Nevada and Washington, D.C. on many issues facing women in in the 21st Century and beyond through our Government Affairs and Community Relations efforts.

Diversity

Building diversity is imperative. We want to increase awareness and strengthen through cultural diversity within the Women’s Chamber and our membership reflects just that. Currently there are women from twenty-six different countries and a wide level of minority women within our membership base. WCCNV continues to build alliances through Minority Chambers, which are very important to the state of Nevada (Asian, Hawaiian, India, Indian, Japanese, Latin, Philippine and Urban to date). We will continue to advise companies to offer more opportunities for women to integrate into higher-level positions and to hire minority-owned businesses for their products or services in the state of Nevada. WCCNV continues our efforts to build international relationships right here in Nevada.

Julian High The NEW United Way of Southern Nevada President and CEO

United Way of Southern Nevada

With decades of experience in driving change and raising the bar for nonprofits and for-profit organizations, Julian High is well-equipped to bring transformative change as United Way of Southern Nevada’s President and CEO.

Most recently, Julian served as the Founder and President of J3H Platinum, an executive management consultancy that has helped C-Suite executives build strong, cohesive teams and create effective communications, business, and political strategies.

With deep roots in Las Vegas, Julian began his career as the Director of Community and Government Affairs for Sahara Gaming Corporation. As the first African American to serve in this role for a gaming corporation, Julian began his path to breaking new ground and aligning philanthropic giving with local issues.

With the goal of devoting himself to helping the community where he grew up, Julian and his husband, Michael Vaughn, returned to Las Vegas. Growing up in the Westside neighborhood of Regal Estates, where he served as the Student Body President of Chaparral High School, Julian continues to be a strong advocate for connecting local neighborhoods to resources for all to have the opportunity to succeed.

With a heart for serving the community, Julian moved to the East Coast to lead the national communication efforts to secure employment opportunities at National Industries for the Blind. To ensure that every member of the LGBTQ+ family has the freedom to live with equality under the law, Julian next became the Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Human Resources for the Human Rights Campaign. Through his leadership and determination, the organization received national exposure for their work in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

October 1 thru 16, 2021

Julian is inspired to leverage resources in our community to match the $10 million donation that United Way of Southern Nevada received from Amazon co-founder MacKenzie Scott to help provide access to education, workforce development, and community support.
