BECOMING ATHENA - LEADING THE WAY

Audra Gerty on the ATHENA International Women's Leadership Conference "Becoming ATHENA: Leading the Way"

Have you ever wanted to reach through the phone to hug a person with whom you have just talked? That is how I felt after talking with Audra Gerty, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer at the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce in Poughkeepsie, NY. (Fun fact: Audra's name comes from a Western television series-The Big Valley-which her Mother loved! Linda Evans played the role of Audra Barkley in the TV program.) Audra's warmth and enthusiasm poured through the phone! Audra is the Leadership Committee Staff Liaison at the Chamber for the 2019 ATHENA International Women's Leadership conference to be held in Poughkeepsie from Sunday, October 20 to Tuesday, October 22. If Audra Gerty is representative of others on the host committees for the "Becoming ATHENA: Leading the Way Conference," including the Duchess County Regional Chamber, the Chamber Foundation, the Women's Leadership Alliance, and Dutchess Tourism in Poughkeepsie, we are surely in for a remarkably amiable and enjoyable experience!

ATHENA International's President, Andrea Conner, Announced as 2019 Women Worth Watching Award Winner

Andrea Conner,Pres.

M a r t h a M e r t z , F o u n d e r o f AT H E N A International and Author of Becoming ATHENA: Eight Principles of Enlightened Leadership, is preparing a new edition of the book which has transformed leadership worldwide! In 2009, Martha first illustrated the eight ATHENA Leadership Principles-Live Authentically, Learn Constantly, Advocate F i e r c e l y, A c t C o u r a g e o u s l y, F o s t e r Collaboration, Build Relationships, Give Back, Celebrate-with inspiring stories from a diversity of leaders.

There has been much praise for Martha's book, Becoming ATHENA! If you Google "Martha Mertz," you will find about 600,000 entries about her and Becoming ATHENA, and, yes, she is on YouTube! I especially like a quote about the book by Marie C. Wilson, President and Founder of The White House Project: "Through personal narrative, accumulated wisdom, and engaging stories, Mertz's book captures the essence of leaders. No matter your position, experience, or gender, it is worth reading from cover to cover." As Martha prepares the new edition, stories are needed that reflect the ATHENA Leadership Principles within today's leadership environment. Martha says, "There is no intent to change the ATHENA Leadership Principles because they are fundamentally sound, and they have been universally used for twenty years. But I do want to have stories that reflect the ATHENA Leadership Principles within changes in the leadership environment in the last ten years."
