COMMUNITY EVENTS

Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) is partnering with dozens of other pet shelters across the country to paw-ticipate in a national howliday and gives back to our furry friends!

Children (ages 4-12) will have the opportunity to read to shelter pets, decorate cookies, create an ornament, and visit with Santa. For Deck the Howls, children are invited to share the holiday spirit with adoptable pets by cozying up in their favorite pajamas and reading holiday stories provided by the Franklin Public library to furry friends. The children benefit by practicing their reading skills in front of a non-judgmental audience and developing empathy to help make compassionate, responsible choices when interacting with animals in the future. There will also be an opportunity to decorate cookies, create an ornament, take part in animal trivia for prizes and meet the big man himself, Santa!

The animals benefit by learning how to relax around visitors, leading to quicker adoptions. Space is limited, reserve your child’s spot TODAY!

Stills in Timberland

Williamson County’s deep forests hold a rich history of “bootleggers”, or those who produced illegal liquor. Hard-to-reach places and thick woods helped hide whiskey stills from the prying eyes of federal regulators who looked to crack down on the black market whiskey trade. Timberland Park’s many natural springs would have provided a crucial source for the most important ingredient in whiskey making: clean water. Learn about the fascinating business of “moonshining” and how a whiskey still operated in this unique program.

Mission Statement:

It is the goal of the Williamson County Community Chorus to engage passions, inspire achievement, deepen connections and broaden community through choral music.

The Williamson County Community Chorus was founded in 2017 under the direction of Dr. Linda Bolding. The chorus grew quickly and at only 2 years old was invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in February 2020. The chorus is open for participation by qualified High School students, adults and seniors who have past experience and a passion for singing. The chorus performs no less than twice a year at the culmination of each session: Fall/Winter (SeptDec) and Spring (Jan-April) and enjoys a break over the summer months. They have performed large scale concerts, singing with an orchestra, and most recently kicked off the Christmas season to an audience of nearly 800. We are delighted for the success of this group and invite residents to audition and to support us in the audience.

The chorus is directed by Karen Mabry Lewis, a veteran choral music educator from the Dallas area who obtained her BM degree with a concentration in Voice from Belmont University and a MM degree from SMU in Music Education and Vocal Performance.
