Welcome 2019! Unique. Personal. Experience. Weddings this coming year will be described using some of these words. The two of you bringing in your own ideas of love and marriage, it begins with what kind of wedding do you want to have. I don’t think I’ve ever met a couple that didn’t want a unique, personal wedding. One that involves inviting family and friends to witness their exchange of vows and celebration of love! How couples accomplish that is really up to them. Let’s say the rules of wedding planning have been changing, evolving, especially over the past few years where technology, information sharing and dare we say, Pinterest, have taken over. Not to knock Pinterest, but it can turn into an obsession, where so many ideas can quickly cloud your true vision. I’m sure you’ve probably looked at Pinterest and said to yourself, just how much does it cost? It’s been said “why can’t Pinterest have prices” as if it was just a catalog, just order it up! Planning a wedding just doesn’t work that way. This is where finding trusted local wedding professionals can lead you down the right path, to the beautiful wedding you imagine. In every issue of the Wedding Day Sourcebook we’ll share more wedding inspiration and information, more ideas and a look at some Real New England Weddings. We know technology and social media also play an important part in wedding planning. You can easily check out our social media pages as well as other amazing wedding professionals in the area, read some reviews, and dare I say, “pin” your favorites. Our area has some talented wedding professionals and businesses that can surely help you bring your vision to life. The Real New England Wedding featured in this issue were at venues such as the Hadley Farms Meeting House, Valley View and the Montague Retreat Center plus more. Also, in this issue we’ll give you a sneak peek of what happens “behind the scenes” of some great weddings. Congratulations again on your engagement. You’ll find us at many wedding expos, bridal shows and open houses as well as online on our website www.weddingsourcebook.com. Feel free to check out our Facebook pages for updates and information on vendors, wedding inspiration and upcoming events.

Una & Levi - Valley View Farm
Submitted By Seth Kaye PhotographyUna & Levi were recently married at Valley View Farm in Haydenville, MA on a hot but beautiful summer day. We spent the entirety of the day at Valley View Farm where Una + Levi got ready, had their ceremony, and then their reception. Earlier in the day Una was in the venue’s “Love Nest” bridal suite where she and her bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done, and Levi was in a separate building named the “Sugar Shack” with his groomsmen. Everyone involved was glad for the air conditioning because it turned out to be one of the hottest days of the summer. When it was time, Una was driven to the Sugar Shack via golf cart for her first look with Levi. We followed this up with some portraits of the two of them, always in the shade in an attempt to stay out of the sun as much as we could. We then did their family portraits inside the main barn to take advantage of the air conditioning. Then it was ceremony time in the venue’s open air pavilion. Levi’s aunt and uncle performed music during the processional and recessional, which was a nice touch. Once back inside, Una + Levi had their first dance followed by a really good buffet dinner. As the sun was setting we went back outside for a few more portraits to take advantage of the nice light that occurs during that time of the day, and finally it was back inside to spend time with family and friends until their last dance. Entertainment
SPOTLIGHT
Absolute Entertainment
Q. Tell us about your Business: A. Absolute Entertainment is a DJ, Lighting and Photo Booth company specializing in weddings and celebrating 27 years in business. As the owner, I personally do every event and only book one per date. Q. Detail what your services bring to a wedding celebration A. I encourage each couple to relax and actually enjoy their day. I started in this business as an event coordinator for a large hotel and am very comfortable making sure everything runs smoothly. Every couple I work with, their wedding is completely customized for them and how they envision there day to be. I offer many different ideas during the planning process that we combine with their vision to create a fun, unique and memorable celebration. Q. Tell us about one of the most unique details or touching moments you were ever a part of at a wedding A. I think the most touching moment I have ever seen at a wedding I did was about two years ago. This was a second marriage for the bride who also had two children but the father had passed away. During the middle of the ceremony, they had the two kids come up and all signed adoption papers and included special vows from the new father to be to the children. It was a real tear filled ceremony. Q. When it comes to your specialty for weddings, what word(s) of advice would you give engaged couples that are planning their wedding? A. I know how busy we all get and life moves fast but procrastination will be your biggest enemy. The more you leave on your plate to do last minute the less you will be able to relax a little before the big day. Get things done and checked off your list as soon as possible. It will be a great feeling as that day approaches and you have no worries. For Fun: Q. What’s your favorite food? A. I’m not picky at all. I will eat just about anything but I would have to say most seafood or a good steak is always high on the list of favorites. Q. If you were a new addition to the crayon box...what color would you be and why? A. Blink, a combination of Black and Pink. Black for the very calm laid back part of me and Pink for the crazy and wilder side.
HUNDREDS OF PARTICIPATING COMPANIES:
Q. What personally inspires you? A. What inspires me is the meetings I have with every couple and hearing their stories and the love they have for one another. Then all the comments and thanks I receive after the wedding of how I helped make their day perfect. Q. How do you spend your down time? What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working so hard? A. My wife and I are avid scuba divers and go on trips as often as possible to fulfill our need to swim with the fishes. I also love to just relax at home watching a good movie.

Q. Tell us about your Business: We are a photography business with over 10 years experience. Personality and creativity in every detail. We create opportunities and capture connection. We capture memories. Capture moments that last a lifetime is what we do. Whether it be a back-yard BBQ or a wedding at a venue or on a beach, rest assured the day will be captured and preserved. Q. Detail what your services bring to a wedding celebration. Positivity and peace on a chaotic day. We will always cater to the Bride & Groom’s needs and wants. Being there and not in the way is key to getting every moment. Q. Tell us about one of the most unique details or touching moments you were ever a part of at a wedding. I once had a Bride ask for special pictures with their grandma that was on hospice and only at the wedding for a very short time. These priceless moments and time was so important to them for the fear of the “unknown” She passed 4 days later. It don’t get more touching than that. Q. When it comes to your specialty for weddings, what word(s) of advice would you give engaged couples that are planning their wedding? RELAX! Breathe! Follow your gut when it comes to the decisions. It is YOUR day, people can have a say but you decide together. For Fun: Q. What’s your favorite food and why? Seafood of course… Because it’s New England.

Q. If you were a new addition to the crayon box...what color would you be and why? I’m not sure what the “color” would be called for ENERGETIC! Q. What personally inspires you? The Gospel. Also, seeing people helping, other people! Q. How do you spend your “down” time? What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working so hard? Family, church, learning, beach, photographing landscapes, entertaining, sports & gaming with my kids, learning… As you can see, I don’t do much down time.

Mary & Rob - Montague Retreat Center
Submitted by Tanya Costigan EventsA beautiful, early August wedding on top of a grassy hill, overlooking surrounding mountains…dodging the impending storms …Mary and Rob had a gorgeous ceremony. Montague Retreat Center offers a beautiful seclusion with a fun vibe. It is a venue with lots of logistics and movement, and truly does call for a wedding coordinator for the day of the wedding. The ceremony in one place, the cocktail hour in another, dinner in another and dancing in yet another. Tanya Costigan Events was glad to be that peace of mind, relief and guidance for Mary and Rob and for their guests, hired wedding professionals and their wedding party. As the day-of-coordinator, I kept my eye to the radar because the most important thing to Mary was to have an outdoor ceremony. The radar called for storms approaching, and I knew things needed to be spot on time-wise in order for that ceremony to happen rain-free, and to avoid guests getting soaked on their way down from the hill. We pulled it off and it was amazing, as you can see from Melanie Zacek Photography’s images! Mary and Rob chose most of their wedding professionals from my preferred list and this dream team certainly knocked it out of the park. Crystal Vazquez & Company made this beautiful bride and party even more stunning, and the flowers from The Botaniste were the perfect whimsy. I loved that there was color everywhere, including the gorgeous shade of yellow for the bridesmaids’ dresses. The night was topped off with yummy cupcakes from Frosted Swirl and summer night pops from Crooked Stick Pops….while festive bistro lighting shimmered against the night sky. It will be four years in October. Details on how he popped the question? He rented out the Mullin’s Center, so it was just the two of us ice skating. How would you describe your overall wedding experience? It was a perfect day; the weather couldn’t have been better. All the vendors worked great together, nothing went wrong. It was the best day ever. What advice would you offer to other couples planning a wedding? Don’t rush into anything; enjoy your time being engaged. Don’t let people pressure you into getting things done right away. Take your time to get exactly what you want. Tell us about your dress! My dress was a princess dress. I knew it the moment I put it on. It was the first dress I tried on at Pearl Bridal Boutique. Did you do a “first look” before the wedding? Yes, we did a first look to get all the nerves out! Plus we were able to get a lot of photos done before the ceremony so we could enjoy the cocktail hour and mingle with our guests. www.weddingsourcebook.com

Who Said You Have To Have… …All Those Bridemaids? You’ve got to pick at least six bridesmaids, said no one ever planning a wedding. Where do people come up with a number of bridesmaids you have to have for your wedding to survive? Most brides and grooms look to their closest family and friends whenever a “life event” is happening. Who do you want to share those special moments with? Who is there for you when you need it the most? You’ve gathered friends over the years from all stages of your life. Who do you ask to stand beside you and support you at one of the most important moments of your life? How many friends do you have and how many is too many in your wedding party? Technically, there are no rules to really follow, just helpful guidelines. And feel free to start bending a few rules anyway. Lets start with the guest count and the formality of your wedding. You may not think it’s a big deal, but for a big wedding with a guest list well over 200, it’s perfectly fine to ask a dozen people to stand up for you. And with traditional seating for a ceremony, the more guests you have, the more ushers needed to help with seating those guests. The smaller the wedding, the smaller the guest list and you can comfortably have between three and six bridesmaids.
or have a different number of attendants than your partner. You can even have a member of the opposite sex be your attendant.
Do you want a smaller simple ceremony, uncomplicated without stress? Then have just a special person stand up for you, that’s it. Here’s a rule breaker….you can skip the stress of selecting someone and do without. Go it alone and have just the two of you standing in front of your guests saying your vows while everyone looks on. Beautiful!
The painfully hard part for some couples is having to choose between your family members and friends. Which friend did you want to tell when you got engaged? Who was the most supportive? Who really means so much in your life? If you don’t want a dozen people standing up there with you, don’t feel pressured. You can find other ways for your close friends to feel loved and needed on your wedding day by asking them to greet guests, have them make sure all the guests sign your guestbook or just be available to even bring you a glass of water or champagne. And don’t forget, just because you stood up for someone in their wedding doesn’t mean you have to ask them to be in yours. Take away the stress and pick who you want. You can have one, two, four, six or even twelve, www.weddingsourcebook.com

Food Trends to Consider for Your Wedding Day By Erin Corriveau, Lattitude Restaurant, Longitude Catering and Events Just like leg warmers, shoulder pads and Mom jeans, food also has seen many trends come and go. From the rise of gourmet burgers in 2007 to specialty salts in 2009 to the cronut craze (croissant-donuts) of 2013, these trends have seen some of the best, and worst, of the food industry. When planning your wedding, it’s easy to get caught in the “latest-and-greatest” game. Your Pinterest feed is filled with picture perfect wedding reception photos, glittery donut walls and champagne floats with edible flowers frozen in ice cubes. It’s easy to want it all, and I’m here to help. I’ve outlined some popular food trends that are here to stay – and make your day! The Welcome Beverage Today, many couples are getting married onsite at their reception venue. Guests arrive a good half hour prior to the ceremony and socialize a bit before finding their seat. If it’s a cold Fall or Winter Day, they want to warm up quickly. If it’s a hot Summer day, they want a cold drink to quench their thirst. Having a Welcome Beverage Station is a great way to greet your guests and take care of them right from the start. In warmer months, something as simple as an Infused Water Station displayed in self serve glass dispensers, or perhaps a self-serve Flavored Lemonade “Stand” is much appreciated by guests. In colder months, consider a Hot Apple Cider or Hot Chocolate station. Remember to have your caterer or bar manager have a place (out of the way of pictures) for guests to leave their glass. As an added courtesy, the service team should also do a sweep of the aisles just before the start of the ceremony for any empty glasses guests are still holding. NOTE: Having drinks butlered to guests vs. self service is a very nice touch however keep in mind this comes with an added price for the service. Let’s Get Interactive! Your wedding day is an experience from start to finish, and what better way to add to this experience than having guests see “live” food stations, or get in the process themselves! Live Shucked Raw Bars and Live Rolled Sushi Bars are always a hit and get lots of attention. Perhaps you love Mexican and would prefer a Mini Taco Bar with a Live “Guacamole-“Tender. A Live Popcorn Bar also makes a “pop” (horrible pun intended) where fresh popcorn (right from the machine) is mixed with a guest’s choice of flavoring and presented it in a vintage striped popcorn box. Interactive dessert bars such as a Live S ‘mores Station or a Make Your Own Sundae Station are classic and always a crowd-pleaser. Other fun suggestions are a Make Your Own Shortcake Bar or Frozen Milkshake Bar (a personal favorite of mine). NOTE: Offer these experiences during social hour or following dinner. Offering them during dinner can create a bit of guest confusion and extend your dinner hour longer than you’d like, delaying dance/party time. Also, keep the season/weather and the layout of your venue in mind when deciding on an interactive station. For example, an ice cream bar will not work well 48
outside on a hot July day. In contrast, December may not be the best month for an ice cream bar, but rather offer a non-frozen dessert. The Food Truck Effect Food trucks have been making a greater appearance lately and seem to be here to stay, offering a unique food experience to many of your guests. In addition, food is cooked to order so it’s not only fresh, but nice and hot. While fun, please do keep these points in mind if planning to use a food truck on your special day: 1. If food trucks are your only source of dinner for your guests, be prepared to have lines. The more trucks you have, the better – however lines will still form and guests will have a wait a few minutes for their food. This can often lead to “hangry” activity. This worsens if they’ve visited the bar a few times before being able to get their food. I highly recommend having some sort of stationed fare to tide them over while they wait. This allows them a bit to eat while they choose which truck they’d like to go to. 2. Food trucks are weather dependent. They can’t come inside the building so if it rains on your wedding day, guests will have to either use umbrellas and go outside to get their food OR the truck will have to make a bunch of items and run them in the rain. In either case, guests or the food staff are going to get wet. Neither of them like that much. You may luck out and have a venue that has a covered area that trucks can pull right up to, however this is rare. Keep your guests dry and work out a rain plan with your food truck vendor. 3. Food trucks most often don’t come with service staff. This means your guests will have to clean up their own plates and trash, etc. You may be able to hire outside temporary service staff to execute that day, however this is an additional cost plus you’ll need to pay the temp agency a percentage. NOTE: Be wary of hiring “friends of friends” to help with any kind of service- food OR bar. While well intended, they are not licensed or insured and this could create a liability issue for you. The Grand Finale Perhaps the greatest current food trend is Late Night Bites or “Farewell Bites”. This is food offered in either the last hour of your wedding or upon the end of your celebration as guests are leaving. All too often, guests have just danced for the last two hours, working up an appetite, and remember they’re hungry as they drive away. Enter McDonald’s (or Wendy’s or Sonic, etc.) Instead, why not offer your guests the best farewell/favor: food! From pizza trucks to “drive thru” fare (sliders, fries, mini hot dogs) to “take out” temptations (nacho boats, taquitos, crab rangoons, eggrolls), there is something for everyone. Normally set up as small bites, these stations are a hit and definitely taken advantage of. They’re the perfect way to “soak up the fun” at the end of the best day ever. NOTE: Make sure your caterer has to-go boxes if you’re offering food on the way out so guests can travel with it easily.
