DANTE FESTIVAL 2021 F E A T U RING

THE AL BASTI EQUIWORLD DUBAI DANTE STAKES (GROUP 2)

Welcome A very warm welcome to the Knavesmire for Dante Day 2021. Wherever you are reading this racecard, I hope you thoroughly enjoy the mouth-watering horseracing action on offer this afternoon. With a record five races on terrestrial television on ITV4 and all races on Racing TV, I hope you have a successful and enjoyable afternoon. With around £400,000 in prize money on offer for today’s seven race card, we are set to see some wonderful horses with two Group 2 contests both backed by Al Basti Equiworld Dubai. With prize money for the Dante back up to its record level of £165,000, it is the richest Derby trial and has attracted a stellar cast of contenders. Ten colts have gone on from winning on the Knavesmire to claim the Epsom Classic – most recently Golden Horn in 2015. There have been 75 Derbys since Dante himself last won the blue riband for the north under the care of Matt Peacock in Middleham – today we will find out if Gear Up looks set to follow in his hoofprints, hailing from Mark Johnston’s neighbouring yard. Already twice a winner as a juvenile at York and with Group 1 form, he carries the hopes of the North! He is set to face the long-time ante post Derby favourite, High Definition, who is currently unbeaten, travelling over from Aidan O’Brien’s County Tipperary yard. Notebooks or iPad to the ready wherever you look today as six elite fillies and mares undertake the six-figure staging of the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Middleton and the aspiring sprinters lock horns in what is the British Stallion Studs EBF Westow Stakes. The feature contests’ prize money totals can only be achieved through the support of racegoers and of our sponsors. Many thanks to Al Basti Equiworld Dubai, Matchbook, Constant Security, Autohorn and the European Breeders’ Fund, for their valuable backing. The continuing support of those unable to be with us this afternoon is also much appreciated. The feature races at the Dante Festival are only a part of the story of a memorable week for Yorkshire racing. It is tremendous that late on Tuesday evening Richard Fahey reached the landmark of 3,000 winners; as Hong Kong Harry crossed the line up at Ayr; made even more special that long time stable jockey, Paul Hanagan was in the plate. Already nine times the Champion Trainer here on the Knavesmire, a lot of those Musley Bank winners are familiar to York fans. The pair combined again for winner 3,001 in yesterday’s Churchill Tyres Stakes courtesy of now four-time York winner, Mr Lupton. We extend our heartiest congratulations to all involved, past and present, as well as into the quest for title number ten. In sadder news, Tyrone Williams, the partner of Far Ahead, the 1997 Ebor winner, has passed away - the jockey from a different era who made Middleham his home. Our condolences to his friends and family. York is also proud to be a long-term partner of Racing Welfare; this week sees a deserved focus on Mental Health Awareness Week within the sport, in conjunction with the charity Mind. If you look closely at your pictures, you may notice racecourse and stable staff are wearing green ribbons today in support of this important issue. I hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable and successful day following the action from York, be it on the sofa or as an owner with us today. We very much look forward to the return of racegoers from our raceday on Saturday 22 May. William Derby, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Course: York Racecourse

Official BHA Ratings The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part usually in three races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. Racing Post Standard Times is an independent assessment based on how long it should take a 90-rated horse to win on Good To Firm ground at York. Race tactics, rail movements, and wind direction are amongst the many factors to also affect the time for each specific race. Non-runner Ground - The Trainer states the ground is not suitable for this horse, the official going has changed since the time of declaration. Vet - The Trainer states the horse is subject to a Veterinary Certificate. Self Certificate - The trainer has advised the authorities that the horse is not able to race today.

YESTERDAYS RACING CTION

THE DUKE OF YORK THE TATTERSALLS CLIPPER LOGISTICS MUSIDORA STAKES STAKES (GROUP 2) (GROUP 2)

A potential new sprinting star made his mark in impressive fashion as the Ed Walker-trained Starman took his first Group race. Already a York winner after running away with last season’s Listed Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Garrowby Stakes, the four-year-old had clearly progressed again from three to four, charting a winning course around the outside of a classy field and holding off the equally progressive Nahaarr in the closing stages. Settled early on just behind the leader, Emaraaty Ana, the son of Dutch Art travelled powerfully throughout the contest, keeping towards the centre of the track. As the leaders came off the bridle to his right hand side, he moved up stylishly under the champion jockey and hit the front as the field passed the furlong pole. The four-year-old powered on inside the final furlong, with only the staying-on Nahaarr for company, but William Haggas-trained five-year-old couldn’t reel Starman back in, with a neck the final winning margin. “I was surprised by the performance if I’m honest” said Walker. “A friend rang me on the way here and I said I didn’t think he’d win but this would put him spot on for Ascot. Shows what I know. Oisin was pretty speechless afterwards, we’re all really excited. He’ll be heading to the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot next.” The son of Dutch Art is now as short as the 3/1 favourite for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes following this impressive success.

Snowfall provided Aidan O’Brien with a first triumph in the Tattersalls Musidora, catapulting herself into the Cazoo Oaks picture with an eighth victory in the race for the Emerald Isle. Under a canny front-running ride from Ryan Moore, the daughter of Japanese sensation Deep Impact controlled proceedings throughout before drawing clear in the closing stages to secure an impressive victory. Straight to the head of affairs from the stalls, Snowfall dictated a steady pace in the early stages, stacking the favourites, Noon Star, Teona and Mystery Angel in behind her as the field rounded the bend. Just as the riders on those three rivals began to work, Moore asked his mount for an effort and she responded generously, galloping on powerfully to open up a four length gap on the field. Despite their best efforts, the rest couldn’t close that gap and O’Brien’s charge ran out a ready winner. Snowfall was installed as the new second-favourite for the Cazoo Oaks after the race and Coolmore’s representative in the UK, Kevin Buckley, sounded keen on another big run: “I think that was a good performance. Aidan’s always thought an awful lot of the filly back in Ballydoyle and it’s nice to see her do that, like he thought she would do, stepping up to a mile and a quarter. She’s definitely going to go [to the Oaks] and on that performance we’d have to be hopeful.”

RACE DESCRIPTION Day Two begins with the Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap. Such races are designed for close competition with the handicapper as the independent assessor who rates horses on past performance seeking to get them crossing the line together, by handing out differing weights. The best on past performance will be the highest rated horse, Sunday Sovereign here, and so will carry most weight. So pit your wits against the handicapper – if you need some help look for C (has won at York) or D (has won over this distance) against the horse’s name, see how Copper Knight and Duke of Firenze are just two of this field to have both. Good luck in starting with a winner!

2019’S RACE Winner: COPPER KNIGHT Trainer: Tim Easterby Jockey: David Allan Age/Weight: 5-9-3 Runners: 21 SP: 8/1 Blazing a trail up the centre of the track, Copper Knight hit the front two furlongs out and kept on strongly to win by a length.

KNAVESMIRE TIP In a wide-open contest the marginal preference is for COUNT D’ORSAY, who bounced back to form when finishing second off this mark at Chester a week ago. A reproduction of that performance today would give the five-year-old a big chance. Autumn Flight has filled second place in both starts since winning twice at Chelmsford last month and he should be in the mix once again. Others to consider are Kind Review, Copper Knight and Rayong.

FACES BEHIND THE RACES • What is your current role at York Racecourse? Racing Manager and Raceday Clerk of the Course

• How many years have you worked at York Racecourse? This will be my 11th season.

• What is your raceday role?

My role entails ensuring the smooth running of all areas in relation to the horses and jockeys, including the ground and layout of the track, stables, integrity areas, etc and co-ordinating the doctors, ambulances and vets.

I walk the course with William and Adrian at 6am, and then mornings are busy, checking all areas and dealing with questions from trainers/ racing staff etc especially during a multi-day meeting. 2 hours before the first race, I liaise with the BHA Stewards and Field Force, and ensure that we comply with the BHA Rules and General Instructions before racing starts.

• Outside the racedays at York, what do you do the rest of the year?

During the summer, we are all busy preparing for the next race meeting, as the meetings come thick and fast from May to October. The winter months are spent on development projects, and maintenance and refurbishment of areas such as the stable yard, the Weighing Room and Pre Parade Ring etc.

It is also spent on organising the following season’s Macmillan Charity Race Riders, ensuring full and qualified staff provision for the next season in terms of medical and veterinary cover, organising training and refresher days for our ground staff and horseman’s team, etc. There are also annual Groundsman and Clerk’s seminars to attend, which help to keep everyone up to date with current good practice and any new innovations.

• At the end of the raceday, tell us what makes it a good one?

Quality racing with no incidents, good finishes and that great Knavesmire atmosphere!

• How did you become involved in racing at York?

I first worked at York more than 30 years ago on the Information Team (we didn’t wear pink back then) on racedays. I was also lucky enough to ride on the course in the Queen Mothers Cup a few times.

• What local tip would you give a visitor to the city of York

Arrive by train and allow yourself sufficient time to stroll to the course and get a feel for the city, so allowing the atmosphere to build up. A glass of champagne on the lawn overlooking the Parade Ring before racing starts, will set up your day perfectly!

Stableside 18

ANTHEA LEIGH • Give us a hidden Gem of the Knavesmire

The Stable Yard over behind the back straight. There are four beautiful brick built yards, and on even the busiest raceday on racecourse side, the stable yard is a haven for horses and racing staff. Guests at Stableside, on non racedays, may get a look into one of the yards and see for themselves.

• Thinking of racing personalities, past and present, what question would you most like to ask them? I would ask Sir Henry Cecil about his training of fillies. He was a master with them. I would also ask if he always knew that Frankel would turn out to be arguably, the best of all time.

• Which York Raceday would you attend if you were not working?

Today, so Thursday of the Dante Festival, featuring the Al Basti Equiworld Dante Stakes itself. Widely acknowledged to be the best Derby Trial, it is fantastic to then watch the winner progress through the season.

• What has been your favourite winning performance at York? Frankel, of course! But another less obvious would be Diminuendo winning the Darley Yorkshire Oaks in 1988 for the iconic pair Steve Cauthen and Sir Henry Cecil.

Diminuendo

Frankel

• Who is your favourite racehorse, past or present?

My favourite flat horse would again have to be Frankel, closely followed by Enable. It is a privilege of my job that I get to see these wonderful world class horses at close quarters.

• If you could share a table in the Voltigeur with 5 people from racing over the years who would they be?

How difficult is this! I will keep it to Flat Racing and Yorkshire (we’ll grant Paul residence status) Tim Richards, Nigel Tinkler, the much-missed Tom O’Ryan, William Haggas and Paul Hanagan. What a lot of amazing stories there would be, and what a lot to learn! It would be good fun too, if you weren’t the barman!

• What is the funniest, printable thing that you have seen/heard on the racecourse?

Russ Garritty urging son Jack Garritty to hurry up so they could beat the traffic, when Jack was still on a stretcher in the Jockeys Medical Room with a broken collar bone!

A message from Mr Malih L Al Basti As the founding owner of Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 2021 season at the magnificent York Racecourse on the Knavesmire. The past year has thrown many challenges at the racing world globally and I salute those behind the scenes who have worked tirelessly to keep our sport alive throughout those dark days. It is great to be back approaching some form of normality here at York. And so it is with great pride that Al Basti Equiworld Dubai, can continue to support The Chairman, Committee and every member of the York racecourse team by putting our name to three Group 2 races in 2021: the Gr2 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Middleton Stakes, the Gr2 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Dante Stakes and the Gr2 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Gimcrack Stakes. We wish all owners, trainers, jockeys and stable staff the very best of luck today and throughout this new season on The Knavesmire. Malih L Al Basti Owner and Founder Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai.

One Mile, Two Furlongs About 88 Yards (2,000 metres) See page 54 for conditions of this race.

RACE DESCRIPTION The Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Middleton Stakes over one mile two furlongs is towards the pinnacle of the Pattern pyramid which denotes the best contests, it forms part of the second of four categories; Listed, Group 3, Group 2 and Group 1. This race is restricted to 4yo plus fillies and mares. Given its Pattern prestige, it is part of a broader strategy to keep such horses racing rather than connections choosing to retire them for breeding. Ed Chamberlain and the team from ITV will be having a close at them in the Parade Ring, so make your final selection after checking out ITV4.

KNAVESMIRE TIP Queen Power holds a fitness edge over the majority of her rivals and is likely to give a good account after finishing second in the Dahlia Stakes earlier this month, but she may be vulnerable to either of the Irish contenders Passion or SILENCE PLEASE. The latter is still relatively unexposed at this trip and could be tough to beat if reproducing the calibre of performance seen when dismissing the Aidan O’Brien-trained sister of Capri at Navan last year. Chamade could also have the ability to get involved.

DANTE:

THE HOPE OF THE NORTH

Dante wins the Derby, June 1945

Foaled on March 7, 1942, he was by Nearco out of Rosy Legend and an inauspicious visit to the ring saw him fail to make his 3,500 gns reserve, and no buyer responded to a sale by public advertisement. So he was put into training with Matt Peacock by his owner, Sir Eric Ohlson. Dante enjoyed a blemish-free juvenile season, a winning debut at Stockton in April and five further successes including the Coventry Stakes and Middle Park Stakes. Come 1945, a successful pipe opener and he was aimed at the 2000 Guineas but preparations were interrupted when the horse’s left eye clouded over just before the first classic. Consequently sent to Newmarket short of gallop, Dante experienced his first defeat when Lord Astor’s Court Martial got the better of him by a neck. Some onlookers felt that had the challenge come on Dante’s right, he would have responded quicker. Legendary punter and founder of Timeform, Phil Bull, was not deterred and as the Middleham star drifted to 10/1, he went into the ring, backing Dante to win £14,000!

Matt Peacock 24

Due to WWII the 1945 Derby was run at Newmarket’s July Course. Dante was set to reoppose Court Martial. Meyrick Good, writing in the Sporting Life commented “I expect to see Dante, Midas, and Court Martial draw away from the field and for the winner I select Dante.” It was to prove an inspired summary as Dante became Middleham’s first Derby winner since Pretender won the 1869 renewal. Midas finished second, with Court Martial in third. His victory was celebrated in Middleham, where the church bells toiled, a Dante Ball held and winning jockey Nevett carried shoulder-high through the streets. Dante was then targeted for the St Leger, to be run here on the Knavesmire that September, he was rated an even-money favourite. However, rumours were that all was not well and they proved correct as on August 25 he was withdrawn. Chamossaire, won at York in his absence. The records show that the eye problems which had blighted the challenge for the 2000 Guineas had returned and indeed worsened. Dante was virtually blind in both eyes and so retired to stand at Theakston Stud, Bedale. Dante had a successful if comparatively brief stud career. Among his high-class winners were Darius (2000 Guineas and Eclipse Stakes), Carrozza (Oaks), and Discorea (Irish Oaks). This great horse died at Theakston in 1956. In all, Dante won eight of his nine starts. Dante remains the last Middleham, indeed last northern trained, horse to win the Derby. The success of Permian from Mark Johnston’s Stable in the town in the 2017 Dante as well as the presence of Gear Up from the same Kingsley House base today offers encouragement that a new chapter in the sporting history of the town is being written. So Dante was reared in Yorkshire – lived there all his life – and retired to stud at Theakston Stud, Bedale.

1946: Dante leaves Middleham to begin his stud career

KNAVESMIRE TIP BRUNCH was successful over this course and distance last season, with Hartswood back in second, in a race that threw up several subsequent winners. Michael Dods’ five-year-old ran a cracker on his reappearance, finishing second off 1lb lower in the Lincoln, and should go close if building on that performance. What’s The Story is another track-and-trip winner to note, though bigger dangers may be the thriving Artistic Rifles, who is chasing a hat-trick, and Matthew Flinders, who makes plenty of appeal on his Spring Cup third at Newbury last month.

The Horserace Betting Levy Board continues to provide special funding at this time of crisis, both at York Racecourse and nationwide. This is in addition to help with funding for major Capital Projects. Everyone at York is grateful for their support.

CARING FOR THE HORSES AT YORK RACECOURSE

Looking after the horses is a priority at York and every raceday there is a team of experienced equine vets on constant call. Much of their work is done before racing actually starts, being on hand to check horses over and reassure connections. As part of the Northern End Development the vets have their own office, a large treatment box and a dedicated “stock box” to help them assess and treat the stars of our show. If there is an incident during a race, prompt attention to horse and rider is provided by the modern ambulances, you will see them parked by the track, ready for a rapid response. Like most courses York will often use green screens during an incident, these offer privacy to those involved and their presence does not necessarily signify bad news. Keeping cool is important to a racehorse so you might see them using the horse showers in the new wash down area or the cold water provided in the parade ring and at every start. If you spot a mist cloud behind the saddling boxes that means the horses are benefiting from the cooling power of the special water-misting fans. If a horse loses a shoe or ‘spreads a plate’, then there is a farrier at every start, as well as in their dedicated box by the pre parade ring, to put it right and let the racing commence. Remember a farrier shoes horses, a blacksmith makes gates or the impressive fretwork on the front of the future Weighing Room. As you enjoy your meeting, you can rest assured the horses are being well cared for by the racecourse team and their own dedicated stable staff. 30

FACT FILE:

Where does the race name come from?

Only two Northern-trained horses have won the Cazoo Derby; Pretender way back in 1869 and Dante. Both trained at Middleham, the latter by Matt Peacock to Classic success in 1945.

WHAT HOODOO? Only one horse beaten at York has ever won the Cazoo Derby, Workforce, second behind Cape Blanco in 2010, became a Blue Riband winner and so a hoodoo breaker.

OH LA LA TO BE SURE!

One mile, two furlongs and 56 yards (2,050 metres)

Prize money £165,000

FIRST WINNER?

Bald Eagle justified favouritism in 1958 for Newmarket trainer Sir Cecil Boyd-Rochfort and his jockey Harry Carr.

Why is it considered a Classic Trial?

Simples - since 1958, ten York winners have won at Epsom; St Paddy (1960), Shirley Heights (1978), Shahrastani (1986), Reference Point (1987), Erhaab (1994), Benny The Dip (1997), North Light (2004), Motivator (2005), Authorized (2007) and Golden Horn (2015).

After galloping to glory here in 2014 The Grey Gatsby landed the Prix du Jockey Club (or French Derby) at Chantilly. The following year saw Jack Hobbs second on the Knavesmire and at Epsom, but a Classic winner at The Curragh.

LUCK OF THE IRISH? ANY NEAR MISSES?

They drew a blank in the first 40 years and all bar Aidan O’Brien, still have; the Ballydoyle maestro scored with Saratoga Springs (1998), Septimus (2006), Black Bear Island (2009) then Cape Blanco (2010). The honour of the Emerald Isle rests with O’Brien’s High Definition and Roman Empire today, with Jim Bolger’s Flying Visit a third string to the Irish bow.

32

Tartan Bearer

Rheingold was beaten just inches by Roberto in 1972 and the Millennium winner Sakhee was only 150 yards from Derby victory before being headed late on by Sinndar. The 2008 renewal saw Tartan Bearer go down by just half a length to New Approach and Libertarian was fast finishing for his runners up berth.

LEADING TRAINERS?

The late Sir Henry Cecil

The late Sir Henry Cecil holds the record for having won this race seven times – Approval (1970), Lyphard’s Wish (1979), Hello Gorgeous (1980), Simply Great (1982), Claude Monet (1984), Reference Point (1987) and Tenby (1993). Sir Michael Stoute, John Gosden (Uncle Bryn) and Aidan O’Brien (High Definition, Roman Empire) all have four wins in the race and the latter two will both be looking to close the gap on the great man this afternoon.

LEADING RIDER?

Pat Eddery

The late Pat Eddery managed six wins whilst Ryan Moore (High Definition) has the best record of the current crop with three. Frankie Dettori would join him on that mark were Uncle Bryn to win this afternoon.

WHO ARE THE SPONSORS?

How do local trainers fare? Poorly, until the turn of this decade. However, Libertarian broke the County’s duck for trainer Elaine Burke in 2013. The Grey Gatsby made it two in a row for the White Rose courtesy of Hambleton based Kevin Ryan in 2014. It was back to winning ways in 2017, when the Mark Johnston trained Permian prevailed and Thunderous gave the yard a third success last season. This year, Gear Up represents the Middleton yard, while Pythagoras is saddled by Richard Fahey.

Kevin Ryan

Established in the year 1998, Al Basti Equiworld has, within a short span of time, become the pioneers in equine industry to Middle East and expanded across the globe. They have always recommended and introduced the best quality natural products which have had a very good response from the industry and are the distributors for leading companies such as Baileys Horse Feeds and Foran Equine Products.

RACE DESCRIPTION Another Group 2 and like the Investec Derby, the race is restricted to three-year-olds and is known as an Epsom ‘trial’. A true test of natural ability, all are once again set to carry the same 9st weight. Given up on your own judgement? Then look for the red bi plane that denotes the selection of the racecourse tipster, Baron Ferdinand. If you think you know the winner then place your Epsom bet before the race as the winner’s odds will tumble by 3.12pm, given that ten colts have already done this double.

KNAVESMIRE TIP High Definition has been all the rage for the Derby following a remarkable success in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh last September but he arrives here having missed an intended engagement at Lingfield last week. With that in mind, the vote goes to another unbeaten runner in the shape of HURRICANE LANE. Charlie Appleby’s colt displayed a professional attitude when scoring at Newbury last month and he appeals as the type who will continue to improve with racing. Royal Champion, Gear Up and Megallan add further spice to what is an intriguing contest.

The British Stallion Studs EBF Westow Stakes (Listed Race)

5f Listed £47,000 3 Centre

Five Furlongs (1,000 metres)

See page 54 for conditions of this race.

RACE DESCRIPTION This Listed race aims to give a competitive run to high quality three-year-old sprinters who may struggle against their elders this early in the season, in Pattern races, yet are already beyond most handicaps. A European Breeders’ Fund race, meaning that all the horses sires are registered in Europe with the EBF. The scheme is to encourage the best in bloodstock breeding in Europe. If judgement of form has failed you so far today, it might be time to just try your favourite colours; it has been known to pay a dividend in such races.

2019’S RACE Winner: GARRUS Trainer: Jeremy Noseda Jockey: Ryan Moore Age/Weight: 3-9-2 Runners: 6 SP: 3/1 The last renewal of this contest was a thriller as Garrus pipped Shades Of Blue and Soldier’s Call in a thriller with just a short head and a neck between the three at the line.

KNAVESMIRE TIP ACKLAM EXPRESS makes slightly more appeal than the returning Winter Power in a cracking Listed event. Nigel Tinkler’s charge should be fighting-fit following three fine efforts at Meydan since mid-February, whereas the latter hasn’t run since October, and he is also a past C&D winner. Tim Easterby’s inmate is an exciting three-year-old, after signing off last season with Listed and Group 3 victories at Ayr and Newmarket respectively, but she might just need this. Atalis Bay and Dexter Belle add further spice to the race.

KNAVESMIRE TIP SECRET STRENGTH was sent off favourite when second on his debut at Newmarket recently, showing plenty of positive signs, only for his greenness to cost him victory at the business end. He could build on that opening effort to open his account here and is one of two for Richard Hannon, alongside the Al Shaqab racing newcomer Lusail. William Haggas’ Kodiac colt Yaahobby cost 300,000gns and is also on the radar on debut, with fellow newcomers Albahr and Rizg noted representing top-class operations.

7th Race 4.50 The Autohorn Stakes

Two Miles About 88 Yards (3,200 metres)

2m Handicap 71-90 £15,000 4+ Inside Rail

See page 54 for conditions of this race.

RACE DESCRIPTION As the longest race of the Festival, the start is on the home straight and the horses will pass the stands and then complete a further circuit of the track. “Offer a chance for everyone” is a good maxim for those planning races and here the upper rating of 90 means that the spotlight will not be stolen by a proven superstar. Perhaps the team on Racing TV can guide you to farewell glory. If you are successful then you can bask in the glory of picking up the last winner at York until at least 1.41pm tomorrow.

KNAVESMIRE TIP FRANKENSTELLA has winning course-and-distance form in the book from last year and warmed up for this assignment with a satisfactory effort at Newcastle, which should have put her spot on for this. The principal threat may be Ben Lilly, who was beaten by less than a length over 1m 5f at Hamilton last time out and could appreciate this stiffer test. Cloud Thunder also has a solid chance if transferring his recent all-weather form back onto turf.
