SENOR LOMBARDY fell at the first at Kelso last time and might be better judged on his runner-up effort at Wetherby prior to that. Nicky Richards’ veteran lurks on an appealing mark and it would be no surprise to see him return to winning ways. Don Brocco appreciated a change of tactics to score in ready fashion at Carlisle earlier in the month and holds an obvious chance, while Skyhill is another to note.

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - FERGAL O’BRIEN
Fergal O’Brien’s Ravenswell Farm operation has been growing in stature for several years now and the trainer has already been on the mark here at Ayr this season. Improving mare That’ll Do Moss came north to win a mares’ maiden hurdle here on January 21 and the 6 year-old went on to be a strong finishing second in a Grade 2 mares’ hurdle at Sandown next time out. The trainer was out of luck with Autonomous Cloud in last year’s Scottish Grand National won by Willie Mullins’ Macdermott but he’s back here with two runners ridden by conditional jockey Jack Hogan, the formerly Irish-trained, recent Plumpton winner Serious Challenge in the 4.00 and the unraced Keep Tabs On You in the closing bumper at 5.10

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - SEAN BOWEN
Bowen is going great guns in his efforts to win the jump jockeys’ championship for the first time this season and the rider was 17 winners clear of Harry Skelton before his 6 rides at Chepstow on Saturday and 3 more at Hereford yesterday The 2015 Conditional Jockeys’ champion has struck up a terrific partnership with Olly Murphy here in Britain but he’s also the go-to rider for Murphy’s former boss in Ireland Gordon Elliott and takes the mounts on the well-named Bowensonfire (4.00) and Nathan Wells for the Cullentra House handler here at Ayr today The Welshman reached 1000 career winners at Fakenham this month and looks sure to have plenty of chances to break his Cheltenham Festival duck at the big meeting next month.

Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase
The Troon-based Hillhouse Group will be back for their 32nd year of sponsorship at the Festival this year and we’re delighted that the Vernon family want their sponsorship partnership with Ayr Racecourse to continue to bear fruit with one of the most anticipated races of the whole season.
The Paul Nicholls-trained Outlaw Peter won last year’s race under Harry Cobden from the Keiran Burke inmate Soul Icon and the runner-up boosted that form with Graded race seconds at Market Rasen and Wincanton before emerging victorious in the prestigious Desert Orchid Handicap Chase at Kempton over Christmas.
Dan Skelton’s Jet Plane and Heltenham failed to finish last year but the trainer had won 4 of the past 6 runnings and is sure to be back with more ammunition to try and hit one of his favourite Ayr targets in April.

RACE RESULT DISTANCES 1ST
A revelation on his handicap debut at Haydock in December when taking control at the finish, GEGE VILLE is likely to have plenty more improvement forthcoming and a 5lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from going in again. Success may come at the main expense of recent course scorer The Jeweller’s Pet, and Irish raider Park Annonciade, who wasn’t beaten far here last month.
totewin: Gege Ville
