We have seven races for you tonight on what is forecast to be a rather pleasant February evening.
Commencing with an interesting field of maiden fillies, race one at 5.15pm has twelve lightly raced entrants with one of them looking to win the first race of their career. It is well worth making a trip to the paddock to inspect them before making your choice.
Our feature race of the evening is the 7.15pm, Bet365 handicap, where Rebel Path looks to have every chance of following up on his victory of last week with a good draw from stall 3. Monsieur Beaulieu reopposes on worse terms and from stall 6, so looks up against it.
I hope you manage to find some winners and have a lovely evening.
Neil Graham Racing Director

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

RESCUE MISSION shaped with lots of promise, despite racing wide and pulling hard, to fill the runner-up spot over 6f here last month. Andrew Balding’s three-year-old would have learnt a lot from that experience and, with normal progression, she could be the one to beat. Vinatera showed ability to finish a close-up third at Kempton last month and could have more to offer on only her second start, while Scattering Light is another to watch out for

SCATTERING LIGHT ran well when third in a race that has thrown up subsequent winners on her final start for Charlie Appleby last summer and, appealing as the type to progress further, she earns the vote for the stable that won this contest 12 months ago. Rescue Mission, following her encouraging debut second here, Kathleen’s Glory and Vinatera are others to consider
The Great British Bonus (GBB) incentivises and rewards with breeding, buying and racing of British-bred fillies by paying out bonuses of up to £100,000 per filly And now with GBBPlus to further incentivise staying fillies and chasing mares, there are more reasons than ever to breed, buy and race British. ZU RUN is a previous C&D winner who produced a good effort to be beaten a length into second at Wolverhampton last month and goes off an unchanged rating. With Billy Loughnane taking over in the plate, he may be the one to beat. Port Erin finished a head behind the selection in third that day and will be hoping the application of first-time cheekpieces can help reverse the form, while last-time-out Kempton scorer Drifts Away needs to be taken seriously as well.

COMBUSTION successfully completed the double at this level at Southwell earlier in the month and is aided by a handy draw in stall three to compliment his forward tactics. The four-year-old remains relatively unexposed and he looks the way to go. Agent Mayfair rates the main threat after his length and a half success over 5f at Southwell last time, while Outreach makes most appeal of the remainder

Already a four-time winner on Polytrack, the reliable BRUNEL CHARM has shown resurgent form since undergoing wind surgery last October and could have the run of the race if making the most of a plumb draw in stall one. Dion Baker and Lequinto are not dismissed on their peak efforts, while Profit And Loss has gone well here in the past and is a notable danger after a profitable spell racing in Jersey

REBEL PATH outgunned Monsieur Beaulieu by half a length when winning over 6f here last week and a similar show of tenacity could seem him cement his authority over the runner-up, with the drop back to the minimum trip not expected to be an issue. The latter has a 2lb pull at the weights and can again make this a good test for the selection. Dashing Harry isn’t always easy to predict but can be a force in this company having been dropped 3lb since his latest start.

As part of our ‘10 Years of Community’ campaign, and fundraising for 10 selected charities in 2025, we kick off with The Injured Jockeys Fund. Established in 1964 after the devastating accidents that ended the careers of Tim Brookshaw and Paddy Farrell in the Grand National, the Fund has since supported thousands of jockeys, with over £22m in grants and £75m in charitable expenditure.
At Chelmsford City Racecourse, we recognise the importance of supporting equine charities like the Injured Jockeys Fund, and today we are delighted to welcome the Fund to the racecourse to raise awareness and fundraise. Ahead of their visit Jo, Head of Community, spoke with beneficiary Laura Pearson and coach Glen Reed about the support provided to injured and active jockeys.
Laura Pearson, a jockey who began her career at 18, experienced success, including a Royal Ascot win in 2021. However, after a fall at Epsom a year later, she suffered a fractured C7 vertebra in her neck and spent six months in rehabilitation at Peter O’Sullevan House. Laura reflected, “It was tough, but I’m lucky to have had the support from the Fund with physiotherapists like Glen and Emma helping me through it.”
Laura also shared her appreciation for the Fund’s continuous support: “If I didn’t have this facility, I don’t know how long it would have been before I got moving again, the Fund is always just a phone call away, especially for mental health support. I’ll 100 percent continue to come here, and they’d be lucky to kick me out!”
Reflecting on what it was like to get back on a horse following her injury Laura laughed and said “I actually commented at the time that it was like being back home, and the hardest part of being injured was not being on a horse which I’ve had the pleasure of doing my whole life.”
Glen Reed, strength and conditioning coach, explained the role of the team in helping jockeys stay fit and recover from injuries. He works with both active and recovering jockeys, focusing on small gains to improve performance. He emphasized that recovery can be challenging and isolating for jockeys, but the team offers full support, including gym work, mental health care, massage, and hydrotherapy
Glen also noted that the Fund relies solely on donations and public generosity, with their three UK centres costing £6 million to run. “There is a common misconception that jockeys have to contribute to their recovery, so the racing community is instrumental in fundraising, and every donation is highly valued.”
Lisa Hancock CEO, Injured Jockeys Fund added:
“The Injured Jockeys Fund are very grateful to Chelmsford City Racecourse and the racing public for their kind generosity via this fantastic initiative; we rely totally on charitable income & funds raised each year. We wish you all the best in your 10th Anniversary year and thank you for all your support”.

Runner-up on each of her last two starts, including here over 1m in December, ELTERWATER sets the standard on recent form and she looks capable of going one better on the rise in distance.
